The present invention relates to a connector for the junction of pipes of any material, for example, of plastic, metal or rubber, or for their connection to any device or device.
We know the difficulties encountered for junctions, in particular of plastic pipes. Frequent creep, when the material of the pipe is subjected at the same time to the pressure of the transported fluid and to a compound force of traction and torsion, limits the use of these pipes.
This is why the object of the invention is to achieve a simple, undeformable, absolutely unbreakable connection capable of ensuring a tight seal at all pressures up to the rupture limit of the pipe, even under the most severe conditions. more unfavorable in terms of composite tension and torsion, this coupling having to be able to be assembled and disassembled easily and quickly without risking damaging its own components and the pipe itself.
The subject of the invention is a fitting for a pipe comprising an outer sleeve intended to be engaged around the end of the pipe and an internal sleeve which is capable of being inserted into this same end, and which comprises a cylindrical part followed by a conical part and a collar intended to remain outside the pipe, means making it possible to ensure the clamping of the external sleeve towards the collar of the internal sleeve.
In a preferred embodiment, the outer sleeve, the inner wall of which is cylindrical, has a circular recess on the inner edge of its end which is intended to come towards the collar of the inner sleeve.
The inner sleeve and outer sleeve then act on the end of the pipe like a punch and die, the tapered portion of the inner sleeve pushing back and compressing the material of the pipe into the recess of the outer sleeve. which gives this repressed material the shape of a retaining collar.
Some embodiments of the connector according to the invention are described below with reference to the appended drawing, in which FIGS. 1 and 2 are views in axial section of two parts of a first embodiment: the inner sleeve and the outer sleeve.

Fig. 18 is an axial sectional view of part of another embodiment. Fig. 19 is a cutaway elevational view illustrating an application of one embodiment of the connector.
The embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 edmprend an internal sleeve 1 having at its periphery a cylindrical part 2 extending between ca-b, then a conical part 3 between bc, itself followed by a flange 4 whose outer face carries a sealing ring 5 retained at 6 on the end of socket 1.
An outer sleeve shown in FIG. 2 consists of a cylindrical body 7, one end of which has a circular recess on its inner edge 8. Furthermore, the outer surface of the body 7 has a shoulder 9 which is intended for driving the sleeve by a clamping member and thereby fixing the connector. This clamping member is constituted by a nut 10 comprising an internal shoulder 11 (FIG. 3). In the embodiment of FIG. 4, the clamping member is a flange 12.
To assemble the fittings just described, it is necessary to fit the clamping member 10 or 12 and the external sleeve 7 around the pipe, then insert the internal sleeve into the end 13 of this pipe. 1 until the collar 4 comes to rest on the edge of the pipe.
It is therefore possible to connect the pipe fitted with the connector either to another connector or to any device for use, for example on the threaded nozzle 14 of a device to which the tube is to be connected (fig. 3). By tightening the nut 10, the sleeve 7 moves axially towards the glue 4 of the sleeve. In its movement, the sleeve forces the material from the end of the pipe through the conical part 3 of the internal sleeve.
The material of this end is molded between this tapered part of the sleeve and the socket of the sleeve, these two parts acting like a punch and a die, so that the end of the pipe undergoes a real shaping. and was born to form a bead or collar 13a, similar to the beaten collars which are usually made at the ends of certain metal pipes for fitting fittings.
The result obtained is all the better as it is possible to achieve optimum tightening by screwing the nut 10 on the nozzle 14, since the internal sleeve is then retained by the end of this nozzle against which the nozzle is applied. 'sealing ring. An identical result can be obtained by means of a fixing flange 12 (fig. 4).
Thus, the end 13 of the pipe forms a perfect retaining collar and the fitting is practically unbreakable, even when the pipe is subjected to high internal pressures or to tensile forces, extensive tests having demonstrated that the bursting of the pipeline intervened without tearing off the fitting. On the other hand, the seal provided by this connection is perfect. This fitting is easily fitted, the cylindrical part 2 of the sleeve facilitating the engagement of this sleeve in the pipe. This fitting can be disassembled and reassembled without risk of damage to its own components and to the pipe.
This fitting can therefore be reused as well as the rest of the pipe, without this adversely affecting its tightness and the strength of the fixing.
Fig. 5 shows a variant 1a of the internal sleeve, in which the substantially conical part 3a of the external surface adjacent to the collar 4 has a slightly concave generatrix. This zone thus forms a concave ramp which ensures the discharge of the material from the end of the pipes to the outside, better than the ramp 3, of perfectly conical shape, of the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 3.
Figs. 6 and 7 show other variants 1b and le of the internal sleeve, particularly advantageous. In these variants, the outer surface of the sleeve is provided with a fine thread 15 whose threads are shallow and whose pitch is fine. This thread extends partly on the cylindrical part of this surface and partly on the ramp for delivering the material of the pipe, and which can be conical 3 (fig. 6) or concave 3a (fig. 7).
These sockets 1 b or 1 c must be inserted into the end of the pipe by imparting to them a rotational movement so that the threads 15 come to print in the material of the pipe. A real screwing of the internal sleeves into the pipe is thus achieved, which facilitates the introduction of the sleeves and increases the adhesion of the pipes to the sleeves.
To facilitate this screwing, the bushes include means allowing them to be driven in rotation, for example blind holes 16 (FIGS. 6 and 8). For the same purpose, their flange may have a polygonal profile 4c, for example with six sides (FIG. 9).
Fig. 10 shows another variant of the internal sleeve, variant in which this sleeve is formed by a metal body 1d covered with a sheath or a coating 17 of plastic material, which can be produced by overmolding, dipping or spraying. In another variant, the construction of the sleeve could be reversed, its body 1d being made of plastic and its coating 16 of metal applied to the body by spraying.
In the previous embodiments, the sealing ring carried on the internal sleeve can be housed in a housing provided on the external face of the collar 4, such as the sealing rings 5, 5a, 5b, 5c and 5d of fig. 1, 5, 6, 7 and 10 or it can be simply pressed on the external face of the collar like the sealing ring 5e of the connector of fig. 4.
This sealing ring can even be omitted if the inner sleeve is made of a slightly compressible material, for example of a suitable plastic material. Fig. 11 shows an embodiment in which the sleeve 7f has a recess 8f, the bottom of which has a step. Therefore the material of the end of the pipe forms, when tightening, a double bead l3 f in the housing constituted by this recess.
In a variant, the recess 8 f could comprise several successive steps corresponding to annular grooves of different diameters increasing towards the corresponding end of the sleeve.
Figs. 12 to 14 show two other variations of the outer sleeve, in which the cylindrical inner wall of this sleeve is provided with a thread 18 whose threads are shallow and whose pitch is small. The displacement of such an internally threaded external sleeve, when the fitting is tightened on the end 13 of a pipe, must be effected by a movement composed of rotation and axial translation so that the threads bite. on the pipe and that the sleeve is thus screwed onto it. To allow this operation, the sleeve comprises means for its driving in rotation, for example lugs, or a polygonal collar 19 (see Figs. 13 and 14).
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 12, the sleeve 7g is designed so as to be able to be driven in rotation by the very tightening member of the connection, the nut 10g with six or eight sides 20. For this purpose, the external surface of this sleeve 7g, which comprises a shoulder 9g on the side of the internal recess, moreover has one or more grooves 21 at its opposite end, the intermediate part 22 being smooth. As for the nut 10g, it comprises in its internal shoulder 11g, one or more grooves 23 corresponding to the grooves 21.
When tightening the fitting, the nut 10- is presented so that the grooves 23 are opposite the grooves 21, the sleeve is then slid axially so that these grooves are engaged in the grooves. Thus the sleeve is coupled in rotation with the nut whose rotation causes the screwing of the sleeve chon on the end of the pipe. Then, the screwing of the nut continuing, the splines 21 escape from the grooves 23 and the shoulder llg of the nut can turn freely on the smooth part 22 of the sleeve to come to rest against its shoulder 9g in order to complete the tightening. sealing ring 5.
Fig. 15 shows part of an embodiment in which the outer sleeve 71 is devoid of a recess on its end turned towards the flange of the inner sleeve. However, instead of such a recess, the connector has several washers 24, made of metal for example, of the same external diameter as that of the shoulder of the sleeve 7i and which have an internal diameter greater than that of this muff.
These washers are arranged around the pipe between the flange 4 of the sleeve 1i and the sleeve 71. During tightening, the material of the end 13 of the pipe is forced into the housing formed by these washers. and it forms, as before, a retaining collar which ensures a secure connection between the connector and the end of the pipe. When two or more washers 24 are provided, these are advantageously of different internal diameters, their diameter increasing towards the outside. Thus the end 13 of the pipe is caused to form a bead with several successive steps.
Fig. 16 shows a set of two fittings for the junction of two plastic pipes 13j and 13k. One has a l i socket, a sleeve 7j and a clamping nut 10j, while the other, which is shown before tightening, consists of a 1k socket, a sleeve 7k and a clamping member 10k consisting of an externally threaded ring and provided with a flange 25 with six or eight sides. It can be noted that the ring 10k comprises a recess 2.6 intended to serve as a housing for the sleeve 7k.
The coupling of these two connectors is achieved by screwing the nut 10j of the first connector on the ring 10k of the second. A single sealing ring 5k carried by the sleeve 1k is sufficient to ensure the seal, this ring being tight against the external face of the sleeve l j.
Fig. 17 shows another example of the coupling of two pipes. One of the fittings consists of an internal sleeve 11 fitted with a sealing ring 51 , a sleeve 71 and a clamping member < B> 101 consisting of a ring, while the other connection comprises a lm sleeve, a 7m sleeve and a 10m clamping member consisting of a ring with an external thread,
onto which is screwed a nut 29 provided with a shoulder which bears on a shoulder 30 of the ring 101 so as to ensure the tightening of the connection. The two sleeves 101 and 10m each have a chamber 27 or 28 for housing 71 or 7m rings.
Fig. 18 shows yet another variant, in which the outer sleeve 7n of the connector itself carries the clamping and fixing means of the assembly. For this purpose, this sleeve carries a flange 31 of large diameter which forms a fixing flange. Preferably, this com flange carries, on its external face, a radial or diametral groove 32, of sufficient depth to extend partly behind the flange 4 of the internal sleeve l n. Thus this groove allows the engagement of a tool behind this collar, which facilitates the disassembly of the connector.
The connector shown can be used to attach a plastic pipe to a service tap by means of two bolts engaged in the flange 31.
Fig. 19 shows an example of application of an embodiment of the connector which serves for fixing a hose 13 on a watering lance 33. The clamping member of the connector is then a threaded sleeve 34 which is screwed on. in the inlet of the lance and which has a recess for housing the sleeve 7p of the connector. It can be noted that the internal sleeve 1p thereof is made of plastic and that therefore it is not provided with a seal.
