<EMI ID=1.1>

The present invention relates to a grinding and mixing apparatus suitable in particular for the preparation of vegetable creams and soups.
Several embodiments are known
such devices, in particular portable devices having the general shape of a pistol, the breech box of which contains an electric motor and the barrel of which contains a shaft terminated at its free part by a rotating tool which is immersed in the material to be treat. The tool, constituted by a propeller with sharp blades or by a smooth plate or not, rotates in a perforated enclosure comprising at least one wall intended to limit in
to a certain extent the region of direct activity of the tool, and generally limited to its upper part by a plate placed above the tool.
These devices can be manufactured in large

complicated mechanical devices or narrow tolerances. To be usable under good conditions, however, it is necessary that they adapt to the characteristics of the mixtures to be treated, which are generally very variable.
The apparatus according to the invention satisfies these desires. In particular, it presents two new features, each of which, considered in isolation, constitutes
a significant improvement of these devices, and whose association allows to obtain excellent results
with a device of simple and economical construction.
A first particularity being the subject
of the invention consists in that the wall placed around
of the tool consists of a movable annular element relative to the tool, in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation thereof.
Several effects are thus obtained. By moving the ring relative to the tool, we can
without changing it, get different working characteristics. When the tool is a sharp blade propeller, the displacement of the ring which surrounds it makes it possible, without changing the speed of rotation of the motor, to adapt the fineness of cut to the characteristics of the materials to be treated. You can also adjust the cutting speed. When the tool is a mixing plate, the intensity of its action can be adjusted. This feature is especially interesting when treating a material subjected to heat. The displacement of the ring, which can go as far as complete non-removable, greatly facilitates access to the tool, its replacement and its cleaning.
According to another feature of the invention, the shaft carrying the tool is connected to the motor by means of a coupling comprising a rod of elastic material, preferably of synthetic material. This provision has the effect of making up for the centering faults that are inevitable in an apparatus where considerations

perfectly calibrated bearings. The device thus constructed becomes a so insensitive to the wear of the rotating parts.
The combination of the features mentioned above also has the advantage of keeping the device constant qualities, the increase in clearance resulting from wear being compensated by the possibility

identical effects by a simple adjustment of the ring.

to the cup By compressing the ring, its diameter is reduced and it is thus possible to slide it into the most favorable position for the purpose pursued, or to withdraw it entirely to clean
or change the tool 4. It is clear that by approaching or moving away the ring 7 from the cup 6 which dominates it, we have a very simple means of modifying the course of the liquid threads entrained by the tool 4 and guided by the concave cup 6.
The ring 7 can be of various shapes without departing from the scope of the invention. It is thus that its interior profile can be rounded or hollowed out; the ring can be perforated, have internal striations; its edges may be sharp or blunt.
The sleeve 5 can be of any elastic material, although it is preferred to make it of a so-called "plastic" material. Its ability to twist depends on its length, which can be arbitrary. If the device is blocked, it can be replaced easily.
