Description.

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Description. The present invention relates to a type of machine, the major characteristic of which is to generate motive force without having to resort to any fuel.
It works by virtue of the combined effects of the principle of Archimedes and gravity, the force of the machine being a function of the height H (fig 1) and of the real weight of the cylindrical tanks subjected alternatively to the effects of the principle. of Archimedes and those of gravity.

The machine is essentially made up of: 1) Basins and accessories. two basins (1 and 2) connected at their base by a tunnel (3) through which the cylindrical tanks pass. Basin 1 is filled with either fresh water. seawater, oil, mercury or any other liquid which can be used advantageously.
The basin 2 has at its base a sump (4) in which a self-priming pump (5) housed in an annex pit contiguous to the basin 2 takes up the ironing liquid from the tunnel at the same time that it is also used for setting up. machine route. This pump delivers the ironing liquid into the basin 1 via a pipe (6) bringing the liquid back to the bottom of said basin to ensure the siphoning. The horizontal part of the pipe at the bottom of the basin is pierced with numerous holes in order to open up the jet and

A valve (9) matured from two bends to a quarter serves as an intercommunication between the basins. By opening this valve, part of the liquid from basin 1 passes into basin 2, which causes the machine to stop.
2) Cylindrical tanks (10 to 19) The driving part of the machine consists of a variable series of

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
4) Guiding the chains.
The whole weight of the moving parts rests on two guide wheels (26) by chain, firmly fixed to metal supports (27) themselves anchored in the masonry. Unlike the segments of the links which are hollow, the wheels have at their periphery a projecting segment exactly matching the shape of the hollow of the links. The wheels are mounted on ball bearings (28). These can be single or double depending on the weight to be supported.
The lower changes of direction of the chains are made on ball rollers (29) fixed by means of removable brackets (30) on a solid metal support (31) itself anchored to the masonry. These ball rollers comprise just like the guide wheels a projecting segment favoring the centering of the chains.
5) Intermediate supports.
One or more intermediate supports (32) maintain in its horizontal position the upper strand of the chains in order to ensure a perfect mesh, These supports are mounted on ball bearings and the roller also has at its periphery a projecting segment identical to that of the carrier wheels. These brackets are invariably attached to the frame of the gear train transmitting motion to the. dragging machine.
Swaying.
The swaying of the chains and cylindrical tanks is prevented by vertical guides (33) anchored to the masonry in the vertical axis of the machine.
Cycle.
The reservoirs 10 to 13 being out of the liquid weigh all their weight on the chains while 15 to 18 which are either in the liquid or on the ground no longer have any action on the chains since they are completely submerged. When 14 is at the entrance to the tunnel, he is carried by the ground and is in equilibrium with 19; the cycle is therefore continuous.
Transmission of driving force.
All the driving force produced can be transmitted by a train of toothed wheels (34) actuated by the two chains to a train of gears suitable for the machine to be driven. (Right view of the plan view fig 4) or divided by half each chain transmitting half of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
motive force produced by a wheel (35) meshing with it has a gear train suitable for the machine to be driven. (left part of fig 4).
Operation.
The height H (fig 1) being constant as well as the weight of the cylindrical tanks, the regularity of operation and power is therefore ensured. the start.
The ironing pump being started and the valve 9 being closed, the basin 1 can be filled and the machine will start when the inertia of the assembly is overcome. The self-priming pump will return the ironing liquid to basin 1 and the machine will operate normally when filling of basin 1 is completed.
Machine stop.
To stop the machine, it will suffice to close the valve 7 placed at the inlet of the pump, to stop the latter and to open the valve 9 for the intercommunication of the basins. As soon as the liquid level is the same in both basins, the machine will stop.
Restart.
When restarting, it will suffice to first close the valve 9 and then start the ironing pump. This will empty basin Z and return the liquid to basin 1. The pump will be at variable speed, its maximum flow rate having to be sufficient to empty basin 2 despite ironing. As soon as the maximum level is reached in basin 1, the pump speed can be reduced in accordance with the ironing.
During the operation of the machine, the cylindrical tank which enters the tunnel drives out the liquid contained in the latter, hence the rise in the level of the liquid counterbalanced by the volume of the tank which comes out at the same time, which will reduce to a minimum the swirl on the surface of the liquid. As the cylindrical tanks as they pass through the tunnel are in contact with the ground, the ironing section is reduced to the section of the lateral clearance between their bottoms and the lateral walls of the tunnel as well as between their upper generatrix and the ceiling of the tunnel.
Likewise, the play around the chains is reduced to a minimum by the ribs of the ordinary links.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
As the tanks and chains pass through the tunnel moving in the opposite direction to that of the ironing liquid, the quantity of ironing liquid that would have to be removed when the machine is idle will be reduced compared to this quantity to a minimum during operation.
