La présente invention concerne un procédé et un disposi- tif pour réunir des câbles métalliques et pour maintenir les boucles d'extrémité formées sur ces câbles en utilisant des serre-câbles qui doivent être serrés de manière non détachable sur les joints des câbles sous une pression très élevée par une presse mécanique ou une matriceuse et qui sont destinés à être exposés à de très grandes contraintes, par exemple dans les grues, des chantiers de construction, des quais et des navires.Ces serre-câbles affectant la forme de manchons métalliques droits à extrémités coupées droites sont d'un usage ,courant;
ils ,sont
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
L'invention a ainsi créé un procédé et un dispositif pour maintenir deux brins de câble, par exemple d'une boucle formée à l'extrémité d'un câble sous une forte emprise, en permettant de résister à de très grands efforts; ce dispositif affecte la forme d'un serre-câble préconformé avec un cône d'extrémité droit ayant une paroi sensiblement plus mince que la paroi du corps et pré- sentant une surface extérieure et une surface intérieure coniques qui s'étendent directement depuis les surfaces correspondantes du corps jusqu'à l'ouverture du serre-câble;

The present invention relates to a method and device for joining wire ropes and for holding the end loops formed on such ropes by using cable ties which must be non-releasably tightened to the joints of the ropes under pressure. very high by a power press or die and which are intended to be exposed to very high stresses, for example in cranes, construction sites, docks and ships. These cable ties affect the form of straight metal sleeves with straight cut ends are in common use;
they are
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in a fairly soft metallic composition and, under the compression exerted on the two parts of cables covering each other with the joint, they undergo a very great deformation to reach a great hardness and a great clamping force at the end of the compression. It is necessary, for this kind of cable clamp, that at least at the output end of the single strand of the cable supporting the load, the cable clamp has a tapered or conical end to allow this cable to pass through an opening. center, as well as to avoid the possibility of a sharp bend in the cable at the end of the cable clamp itself, where the strong pressure on the supporting part of the cable suddenly ceases.
The invention provides a method and device for forming and holding end loops of cables using a cable tie in the form of a sleeve of generally elliptical cross section pre-formed with a tapered end having a central opening, the cone. end being made so that during the strong compression of the cable clamp body to tighten it around the cable joint, this end cone requires only slight compression to bring its base to conform to evenly with the heavily deformed body of the cable tie.
According to another feature of the method and of the device for joining metal cables and holding the end tubes of these cables by using a cable clamp having a tapered end with a central hole, the end cone is produced without form a direct extension of the body of the cable clamp and presents, after the strong compression and deformation of the body of the latter around the cable joint, a straight hollow conical shape essentially without abrupt variation in the thickness of its wall.
The invention also extends to a cable tie having a pre-shaped cone end for cable joints and for

hold cable loops, the tapered end of which extends directly from the cross section of the strain relief body where the strong compression on the single load-bearing output cable portion suddenly ceases but tends to cause stitches of low resistance on the strands of the cable, this conical end having a shape such that it presents, after compression of the cable clamp, a hollow chamber large enough for a part of the cable remaining free, this conical chamber forming a guide for cable to the central opening preventing dangerous bending of the cable at points of low resistance in its wires.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the cable tie, having the form of a sleeve with a flattened elliptical cross section, comprises a straight end cone preconformed in direct extension having a wall of substantially thickness. weaker than that of his body.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated, by way of non-limiting example, in the accompanying drawing. Figure 1 is a side view of the cable clamp placed on the cable.
Figures 2 and 3 are two longitudinal cross sections of the cable tie, according to two different embodiments. Figure 4 is a longitudinal diametral section of the cable clamp, according to another embodiment, with the strands of the cable inserted, but before compression.

<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The cable tie, made of a metallic tubular sleeve, is constituted by a straight body 1a of elliptical-flattened cross section, this body having, at: hands at one: end, a direct extension having 1a. form of one; straight tapered extremist 1b having a central opening. The body has along its entire length to the base of the tapered end, the same shape. section with a wall of great thickness, but the right end cone has, on the contrary and according to the invention, a wall of substantially less thickness substantially over its entire length.
The elliptical base section 2 of the end cone transforms regularly into a circular section at its exterior, end / ±, the latter extending coaxially with the longitudinal axis of the cable clamp body. This body is the part of the cable tie which must be used as a holding element. for the two strands 4 or .2 of the cable which overlap therein and which form, in the example shown, a loop 6 outside the other end of the cable clamp.
The body is intended to be '' compressed under a strong pressure to undergo a strong deformation, in order to receive a circular cross section, by using a machine at very high pressure making its metal flow in the spaces formed between the metal wires cable and then tighten, at the end of the compression operation, around the two strands of the cable with great stress and great hardness. However, the end cone undergoes some transformation under pressure to follow the deformation of the strain relief body at the base of the cone extending evenly from the outer and inner surfaces of the strain relief body. .
The transformation of the cone is such that it takes a new angle at the apex, smaller, keeping the small thickness of the wall unchanged substantially over its entire length and, for this purpose, it is subjected to a decreasing pressure effect. gradually towards the outer end. However, we prefer to close, exactly at this
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
outer end, the opening formed around the single lead end of the cable in a watertight manner under gentle pressure leaving the metal wires intact.
Due to the thickness of the cone wall, compression only modifies the volume of the inner chamber of the end cone to a small extent, leaving the single cable .2 free in the cone to its end. opening where the single cable is tightly wrapped in water-tight manner under slight pressure and where there is no point of weak resistance of the metal wires. Due to the constant guiding of the cable in the conical chamber, any dangerous bend or inclination of the cable at the base of the end cone no longer affects any points of low resistance of the cable wires in the vicinity of this base.
The wall of the end cone at its connection with the wall of greater thickness of the body of the cable tie can be made in various ways. In the embodiment of figure 2, the thinning of the wall is produced by a recess 2a of the inner surface of the thicker wall 1a and, in the embodiment of / figure 3, the thinning of the wall is produced by a recess 2b of the outer surface of the thicker wall. These embodiments can, however, be considered as two extreme examples, since the recesses of the thicker wall can of course be made on both surfaces at the same time.
In the embodiment of Figure 4, the recess in the interior surface is replaced by a bend 2c formed between the interior surface of the body and that of the end cone, since the interior surface of the. body is extended to meet the interior surface of the cone further forward than the meeting point of the corresponding exterior surfaces. As indicated above, it is advantageous to produce the strain of the strain relief at the base of the cone such that the finished body surfaces around the strands of the cable smoothly transform into the surface of the cone. end, as shown in figure 7.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The invention has thus created a method and a device for holding two cable strands, for example a loop formed at the end of a cable under a strong grip, making it possible to withstand very great forces; this device takes the form of a pre-formed cable tie with a straight end cone having a wall substantially thinner than the body wall and having a tapered outer surface and inner surface which extend directly from the surfaces. of the body up to the opening of the cable clamp;
this pre-formed cable clamp is strongly compressed on the two strands of the cable, the effect of the compression being progressively reduced from the base of the cone towards its outer end by transforming the original cone into a cone of smaller angle without sudden change in the thickness of its wall, the compression preferably closing. the two ends of the cable tie tightly around the strands of the cable, leaving the part of the single cable free inside the conical chamber.
The transformation of the end cone during compression can also be simplified such that the main direction of the cone wall is maintained, although the base of the cone follows, as before, the deformation of the cone. compression of the cable clamp body. Thus, the elliptical / flattened cross section of the cone may in this case be unchanged to some extent with a regular mating surface between the body of the strain relief and the cone.
Various modifications can moreover be made to the exemplary embodiment, shown and described in detail, without departing from the scope of the invention.
