<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Very often, a condition is imposed on a metal that it cannot crack or break during bending, at a prescribed angle, around a nandrin of prescribed diameter. The results of a bend test, however, depend on the manner in which it is carried out and generally the mode of carrying out the test is not specified. This may result in disputes between the supplier and the purchaser on the question of whether or not the material meets the conditions imposed.
In addition, when carrying out bending tests, it is necessary to be sure that the material is only subjected to a bend and does not at the same time carry a shock load or ries loads (it; additional shear or traction.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
EMI2.1
The invention relates to a device for the bending test of metal specimens ± r: j? leouel the part to r is folded around a mandrel, preferably interchangeable with a circular rounding: it is characterized by the fact that it comprises folding means such as the line of action of the thrust exerted on the material , thrust which causes the bending, always passes through the instantaneous point of tangency of the specimen and the mandrel, and is in the extension of the radius of curvature of the rounding around which the bending takes place.
In the case of using a device according to the invention; it is always ensured that only bending forces occur in the test piece and that other loads, and therefore undesirable, of the material cannot occur, so that a result is obtained which cannot be contested. Preferably, according to one embodiment of the invention, the bending means consist of a roller, which avoids shear stresses.
In another embodiment of the invention the device comprises several rollers, the points of tangency of which -the mandrel lie in a plane which, before bending, is parallel to the lateral sides mutually parallel of the mandrel, sides against the 'one of which applies the material to be bent, while the axis of the roller, which exerts the bending force proper, is in the same plane as the axis of the circular rounding, this plane forming an angle 'of 90 with one side of the mandrel. This form of embodiment has advantages, in particular in the case of a fairly elastic material, since it is then certain that the part of the material which, before bending, exceeds the mandrel is carefully applied around the mandrel.
As soon as the bending begins, a thrust is exerted on the mandrel, one component of which is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the mandrel. In order to control a possible bending of the mandrel in the direction of this component, according to another embodiment of the invention, the mandrel is supported by a support, which is arranged so that it can move in such a way.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
that when bending more than 90 of the material * the support leaves the side of the mandrel free.
-
Preferably, according to yet another embodiment of the invention, the device comprises two integral levers, the points of rotation of which are on the axis of the circular rounding of the mandrel and to which are fixed the gaieties each of the levers have a part eccentric with respect to the point of rotation, and, after a rotation of 90 of the levers, said parts are joined with pins projecting from both sides of the device and fixed to the support, so that, when With a rotation of the levers exceeding 90, the support continues, against a spring, the movement of the mandrel.
We thus obtain im auto displacement. matics of the support, when the mandrel must no longer be supported and in addition, it is possible to make bends exceeding 90.
In order to allow adjustment of the position of the rollers relative to the mandrel, according to another embodiment: the rollers are fixed in a support which is adjustable relative to the levers.
Finally, to allow rapid and robust fixing of the test piece in the device, it is advantageous that, according to another embodiment of the invention, the material is applied against the mandrel by a pusher, preferably inter - changeable, moved by an eccentric.
The description of the appended drawing, given by way of non-limiting example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented, the particularities which emerge both from the text and from the drawing, of course, forming part of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a device for testing metal bending.
Fig. 2 is a section along the plane II-II of the device shown in FIG. 1.

The pin 4 is an elevational view of a mandrel as used in the device shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.
In the drawing, a frame 1 has two side plates 2 and a front plate 3. Between the front plate 9 and the frame 1, there is a support 4, which can slide between the front plate 3 and the frame 1. A spring 5 pushes the support 4 upwards and this movement is limited by two pins 6, fixed to the support 4 and which pass through buttonholes 7 in the side plates 2 and are applied in the side plates against the upper e8té grooves 7.
A mandrel 8 is located between the support 4 and the frame 1 and has grooves 9, in which the projections provided for the frame 1 fit, so that the location of the mandrel in the vertical direction is always fine. Mandrel 8 has a circular rounding 10. The radius of this rounding is determined by the conditions imposed on the material to be tested * The test piece, which is indicated by 11, is clamped against mandrel 6, using of a member 12, -on which acts an interchangeable pusher @ 13.
The latter is pushed in turn by an eccentric 14, fixed on an axis 15 which rotates between two supports 16 which can be slid into the frame 1. After removing the support * 16, the pusher 13 can be removed and replaced. by another larger or smaller, depending on the thickness of the material 11. A support 17 comprises three rollers 18, which can rotate around axes 18a, which are formed in the support, and the tangents to these rollers, of the - side of the mandrel, are in the same plane. @ more, the axis of the lower roller is in the same plane as the axis of the circular rounding 10, plane which forms an angle of 90 with the side of the mandrel.
This support 17 is fixed, using a screw 19 with butterfly nut 20, to a member 21 provided with a lever 22. The location of the support 17, relative to the member 21 is adjustable. To the member 21 are fixed two cams 23, the assembly can rotate around two points of rotation 24, the axes of which are located as exactly as possible in the extension of the axis of the rounding 10. When a strip of material 11 to be tested is introduced into the device, first the support 17, with the rollers 18, is slid against the material and the screw 20 is tightened, after which the support is fixed, by relative to the member, using screws 25. The lever 22 is then moved upwards by a regular movement.
Since the point of rotation of this lever is located exactly in the axis of the rounding 10 and that the axis of the roller 18 is in the same plane as said axis and moreover, at the same height, the thrust exerted on the material will always be in the extension of the radius of curvature of the rounding and moreover, the line of action of this thrust will always pass through the point of instantaneous tangency of the test piece and the mandrel. As a result, virtually any unwanted tensile or shear force, as well as impact loading, is avoided. As soon as the material is bent by 90, on both sides a point of the cams 23 is conjugated with the pins 6 from 1 to 4.
Given that at this time no thrust to the left occurs on the mandrel, this support 4. is no longer necessary.
