la figure 1 est une vue de profil de la tôle utilisée pour la fabrication du tube; la figure 2 est une vue de profil de la tôle après le premier embouti; la figure 3 est une vue de la section droite du tube; la figure 4 est une vue de profil du poinçon et de la matrice pour la première opération, la tôle à former étant mise en place; la figure 5 est une vue en élévation correspondant à la figure 4; la figure 6 est une vue de profil, à plus grande é- ohelle, de la matrice pour la première opération, la tale ayant déjà. subi le premier embouti;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

SOCIETE ANONYME DES HAUTS-FOURNEAUX AND
PONT-A-MOUSSON FOUNDRIES
The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture, by press bending, of metal tubes from a flat sheet, this process being remarkable in particular in that it consists in stamping a flat sheet of sheet of suitable dimensions. so as to form a first blank comprising on each side a median longitudinal part of the length of the tube two fillets of radius substantially equal to the internal radius of the tube to be obtained, then to close this first blank itself during an operation subsequent stamping.
The invention also relates to the tooling for the application of said process: punches, dies and in particular a mandrel and its mandrel holder.
Other characteristics will result from the description which follows.
In the appended drawing, given by way of example only,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Figure 1 is a side view of the sheet used for the manufacture of the tube; FIG. 2 is a side view of the sheet after the first stamping; Figure 3 is a view of the cross section of the tube; FIG. 4 is a side view of the punch and the die for the first operation, the sheet to be formed being put in place; Figure 5 is an elevational view corresponding to Figure 4; FIG. 6 is a side view, on a larger scale, of the die for the first operation, the size already having. undergone the first stamping;
Figure 7 is a longitudinal section taken along line 7-7 of Figure 8 of the die, mandrel and. mandrel holder for the second stamping; Figure 8 is a cross section taken on line 8-8 of Figure 7; FIG. 9 is a plan view, corresponding to FIG. 7: FIG. 10 is a view similar to that of FIG. 7, showing the position of the mandrel after its tilting for the purpose of extracting the drawn tube.
According to the embodiment shown, the method according to the invention is assumed to be applied to the formation of a cylindrical tube A, of determined length, of an internal radius R and of a thickness e (fig.3). For this we take a sheet metal B (fig. 2) of length corresponding to the length of the tube to be obtained and of width equal to the development of this tube.
During a first operation, the two longitudinal edges of the plagiarism are stamped over a slight width.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
rement greater of each o8té a quarter of the width of the sheet, for example on three-eighths of this largear. The two stamped parts a b c and d e f (fig. 2) have an oiroulaire profile of radius R equal to that of the tube to be obtained. They are joined by a part c g d which must have the opposite curvature. This curvature can also be any. During a second stamping operation, the central part c g d is stamped so as to change its curvature, and to close the stamped by bringing the edges a and f together.
The first stamping (passage of the profile of Figure 1 to that of the stamping of Figure 2) can be achieved for example by means of the tool shown in Figures 4, 5 and 6. This tool comprises a female die 1 of profile suitable for receiving the developed sheet B (fig. 4) and centering it longitudinally thanks to the edges 2 and 2a (fig.6) with respect to the indentation which will give the stamping of figure 2 when the punch 3, driven by a hydraulic press, will apply the sheet to it.
Due to the elasticity of the metal, the stamping tends to open slightly as soon as it is removed from the die. For this reason, the radius r + e of the matrix (figure 6) must be such that r is less than R. We can take as a first approximation r 9 R, but this value
10 is given only by way of example, and only tests will make it possible to determine the exaote value according to the sheet and its thickness.
The profile of the male die 3 is easy to deduce from that of the female die taking into account the thickness e of the sheet,
The second stamping operation (passage from the stamping shown in FIG. 2 to the tube shown
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in Figure 3) can be produced with the tool shown in Figures 7 to 10.
According to this example of execution * the tool comprises a female die 4. The profile of this die is studied so as to obtain the tube with a single press stroke during which the edges a and! overlap slightly due to the width of the

stamped a b a and d e f, It comprises 1% aut at the bottom uax batch gement at bt es fe (fig.8) intended to receive the first stamped, two sides at 45 ¯b 'hl and!' and an indentation having the shape of a half cylinder ha mol 3 of radius rl + e.
The value of r1 should preferably be between the values of ± and R ans-inclined for the same un-indicated reason for the elasticity of the metal. The faoettew to 45. are suitably connected to the upper housing and the lower half cylinder so as to facilitate the sliding of the sheet during bending. the tooling is completed by a cylindrical mandrel 5

radius equal to rl. This mandrel is carried by year portepmendrin 6.
It is maintained under the mandrel holder by two tensioners 7 and z carried by the man-holder & rII2 at its two ends and provided with clamping holes 8 e 8a, Two pins 9 and 9a hold the ends 10 and the * of the mandrel in the heads of the two% endeàrs "7 è1l- 7fl, The mandrel 5 rests on the portedr1n 6 by the intermediary of two bearings 11 and 11a arranged between the tensioners and in the vicinity of these (figs.7,9 and 10) and carried by the mandrel holder The bearing 11 comprises an ohape traversed by a pin 12 forming a stop.
EMI4.3
It can be seen that by tightening the nuts a and 8a of the tensioners 7 and 7a, the mandrel 5 is applied to the bearings 11 and, la and this mandrel is flexed in its middle,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The deflection is set so that it cancels out when the first stamping is done on the die 4.
After the second stamping, the nut 8a of the tensioner 7a is loosened, the eyebolt 9a is removed, the tensioner 7a is removed and the mandrel 5 is lowered until it bears on the support axis 12 ( figure 10). At this time the interval between the mandrel 5 and the oonssinet 11a is sufficient to allow the extraction of the tube A by gravity.
Naturally, the invention is in no way limited to the mode of execution shown and described which was chosen only by way of example.
