<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to looms of the type where the weft yarn is introduced into the shed of warp yarns by a device or lance for inserting the weft (hereinafter referred to as a lance) driven by a backward movement. -and-back, which can be controlled from one side or both sides of the loom, the weft being taken from fixed spools of thread. The invention is particularly applicable to looms in which the weft yarn is cut at the selvages to obtain what is called a single-pile fabric. An example of such a craft is described in Patent No. 416,856.
In a loom of this type, when a weft thread is
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
cut at the selvage, a piece of thread remains protruding beyond the mouth of the spear and the spear itself contains a greater length of thread which extends outside the width of the fabric being made, where a clamping device attacks and retains the weft.
While the weft is retained by this device and the knife cuts the weft, the thread in the lance is subjected to a certain tension which can, when the weft is cut, bring back inside the body of the lance. thread extending beyond the mouth of the lance and thereby preventing operation of the loom and obtaining the desired pattern in the fabric.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a simple and effective device for avoiding this drawback.
The invention consists of a loom of the type in which the weft thread taken from a fixed spool is introduced into the shed of warp threads by an insertion lance which is moved back and forth and provided. a clamping device at its anterior end or near its anterior end through which the weft exits, a device which can apply pressure to the weft thread while the lance is in motion, the control device of this device for clamping being located in the body of the trade on the outside of the lance.
The invention also includes a loom in which the controller can cause the clamp device to apply adjustable pressure to the weft and also to move away from the weft.
The invention also comprises a loom in which the clamping pressure is applied by a spring acting by a torsion bar.
The invention further comprises a loom in which a clamping device carried by a torsion bar extending along the lance can apply pressure to the weft yarn in the vicinity of the opening in the lance through which the weft. warp threads emerge from the crowd, this bar

bearing a bent part connected to a piston subjected to the action of a spring which tends to rotate the bar and cause the clamping device to clamp the weft, and a device external to the lance but located in the structure of the loom, operable to lower the piston and rotate the torsion bar when the clamping action of the clamping device on the weft exiting the lance is to be eliminated or reduced.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a schematic view of a weft inserting lance with a weft clamping device constructed and arranged in accordance with an advantageous form of the invention.
Figures 2 and 3 are similar detail views showing the weft clamping device in action and at rest.
Figures 4 to 8 are diagrams showing different stages of the insertion of the weft in the warp threads of a fabric in the process of being woven, with a weft insertion lance fitted with a device for clamping the thread. weft followed the invention.
In Figures 1 to 3, the weft insertion lance a which is similar to that of patent no.416,856 comprises a tube b through which pass the weft yarns c coming from a fixed winding not shown in the direction of the weft. The mouth d at the outlet end or nozzle of the lance, where the thread is introduced into the shed of the fabric being produced. Between the outlet end e and of the tube b and the mouth or opening d there is a clamping device 1. carried by a torsion bar ± extending along the lance a, this clamping device. ± being able to retaining the train c between itself and part h of the lance adjacent to the mouth or opening d.
The torsion bar is mounted in suitable supports i in the lance and carries an angled part j to which is connected the end of a piston k, the outer end or head m of this piston being subjected to the action of a spring n which is wound around the piston and rests against the back of the lance.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
A support in the form of an angle or bar o which is mounted in the loom beyond the width of the fabric being produced can be moved by a cam p (figs. 4 to 8), to come into contact with the head m of the piston, which has the effect of rotating the torsion bar ± in a direction suitable for lifting the clamping device ± so as to move it away from the weft thread c or to reduce the pressure which it exerts on the weft under the effect of the spring n wound around the piston k and the torsion of the bar ± ,. The extent to which the piston is moved depends on the shape and relative positions of the cam. 3. and the bar or angle bar o ..
The latter can be subjected to the action of a spring to move away from the piston when the cam ± allows it.
Note that the clamping device f, if the cam allows the angle o to move away from the head of the piston m, is subjected to the action of the spring n and applies a predetermined degree of pressure to the weft thread exiting from lance through the opening d which produces tension in the thread if it comes out of the lance, or prevents the thread from entering the tube b when it has been cut outside the mouth or opening d while the frame is under tension. If the bar or angle bar o is caused by the cam p to engage the head m of the piston k, the clamping device f can be moved by the torsion bar g and moved away from the weft thread exiting the lance so that for example, this weft yarn can exit freely from the lance and be inserted into the shed of the fabric being produced.
In fig. 4, the cam p causes the bar or angle bar o to attack the head m of the piston k and thus move the torsion bar ±, to lift the clamping device f and move it away from the weft thread c which is discharged by the lance as it moves to the left of fig.4.
In fig. 5, the 1 ... ce a came out of the crowd and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
cam ±, allows the bar or conier o to move away from the lance a so that the clamping device f can exert pressure on the weft thread at the mouth of the lance under the effect of the pressure the spring n wound around the piston k, acting through the torsion bar g. When the lance returns inside the shed, as in fig. 6, and has to insert a weft thread, the cam p eliminates the pressure of the spring n by pressing the bar o on the head m of the piston of the device clamping f. This causes the latter to move away from the weft thread exiting the lance.
In fig. 7, the cam p allows the bar - 0 to move away from the lance a, so that the spring m acting by the torsion bar 1 tightens and retains the weft thread during the stitching. page of the wire and the withdrawal of the lance. The weft thread is thus retained against any movement causing it to enter inside the lance when it is cut at the edge.
FIG. 8 shows the lance after cutting at the selvage, passing through the shed of warp threads without delivering any weft thread, the clamping device wrapping the end of the weft thread at the outlet of the lance. The piston head m is moved away from the bar o.
