<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The present invention essentially relates to a method of coupling between a motor shaft and a driven shaft, of the type which uses a mechanical clutch by pinions or other intermediate members and intended in particular to be applied in the case of motor boats or boats. analogues.
The main object of this process is to avoid the faults usually encountered in boat transmitters by eliminating the transmission or mechanical friction clutch members usually used.
In addition, this method aims to make the transmission used between the motor shaft and the driven shaft positive and free of play, both in forward and reverse gear.
This method is remarkable, in particular, in that it consists in providing, in addition to the mechanical transmission produced by the pinions or other intermediate members of the clutch, a flexible hydraulic transmission between said shafts and in acting on said hydraulic transmission. before a clutch maneuver to bring the pinions or other members which have to mesh with one another to corresponding speeds, during said clutch maneuver.
For this, it is possible according to the invention, on the one hand, to connect the motor shaft to a gear train forming a transmitting gear pump and, on the other hand, the driven shaft to a gear train. forming a receiving gear pump, and interconnecting the fluid circuits of said pumps, so as to cut them. It is then possible, in the case where clogs are used as clutch means, to make equal or substantially equal, by said hydraulic transmission, the speeds of rotation of said clogs and of the pinions or crowns with which they. must engage and this before the actual clutch maneuver which can then be performed without any difficulty.
The pinions of the mechanical transmission will preferably be used to form the aforementioned gear pumps, which offers the double advantage, on the one hand, of reducing very significantly the size and the weight. of the transmission device and, on the other hand, to simultaneously lubricate the transmission without any other accessory.
If we consider for example the case of a transmission for a motor boat to which the aforementioned method is applied, we see that it is advisable to achieve the coupling of the propeller shaft and the shaft. motor for suitable speeds of the latter. Furthermore, it is advantageous to discharge the hydraulic circuit of the gear pumps after the actual clutch operation, if it is desired, in normal operation, to reduce the pressure in the pipes connecting the pumps to a very high value. low to make the power absorbed by the pumping negligible.
Either a driving pump and a receiving pump connected, the first to the driving shaft and the second to the propeller shaft and thus forming the aforementioned hydraulic transmission; Let us suppose that the theoretical gear ratio and the volumetric flow rate ratios of the two pumps are already determined by the characteristics of the mechanical transmission.
If we denote by # the speed of rotation of the output shaft of the receiver pump and by w the actual speed of the receiver pump, the slip G of the hydraulic transmission, has the expression # - w G - #
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
If, on the other hand, we denote by w the speed of rotation of the transmitting pump and by k the ratio of the volumetric flow rates of the transmitting and driving pumps, we know that the real reduction kr is given by the expression: kr = k (1 - G) Let k be the kinematic reduction, in other words the reduction obtained by the mechanical transmission. There corresponds a certain torque C transmitted to the propeller.
The hydraulic transmission transmits such a torque to the propeller when the slip at a value such that the actual reduction kr is equal to the kinematic reduction ratio kc.
Let # be the speed of rotation of the propeller corresponding to torque C, the motor driving the propeller shaft then rotates at speed #c wc = - k c
Consequently, the pumps being coupled, the kinematic coupling of the motor shaft and the driven shaft is achieved by accelerating the motor controlling the motor shaft until the precise moment when the motor is rotating at speed w, and by accelerating the motor controlling the motor shaft. mechanically engaging the two shafts, an operation which is carried out without collisions or shocks.
For the kinematic reduction kc, a value less than the volumetric ratio k will preferably be chosen so that the speed of the shafts at which the coupling takes place determines a suction effect of the receiving pump of the hydraulic transmission in the pipes or orifices. connecting it to the corresponding motor pump and thus causes the discharge of these pipes.
It is obvious that a certain margin of approximation can be allowed for the appreciation of the speed of rotation to which it is appropriate to bring the motor before the mechanical coupling of the shafts, this latter being able to be carried out without inconvenience. for not insignificant differences in the speeds of rotation of the pinions, clogs, or other intermediate components which have to mesh.
This coupling method therefore gives the device great flexibility of operation.
The invention also relates to a transmission device, intended to connect a drive shaft and a driven shaft of the type which comprises a mechanical clutch with pinions or other intermediate members, this device comprising application of the aforementioned method and being remarkable, in particular. - ment in that it comprises in addition to the mechanical transmission produced by the pinions or other aforementioned intermediate members, a flexible hydraulic transmission provided between the drive shafts and driven and maneuvering means making it possible to act on said transmission before a maneuver clutch, so as to bring to corresponding speeds the pinions or other intermediate members having to mesh with each other during said clutch operation.
Other characteristics of the invention will become apparent from the description which follows.
In the accompanying drawing, given solely by way of example, there is shown in perspective a transmitter forming an inverter-reducer in accordance with the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The motor shaft 1 carries a pinion 2 meshing with a pinion 3, for example of the same diameter and forming with it a transmitting gear pump, disposed inside a casing (not shown) being presented for example under the shape of a flange.,
End 4 of shaft 2 and end 5 of pinion shaft
3 have splines 6, 6 'arranged opposite the clogs 7, 7' slidably mounted on two separate intermediate return shafts 8 and 8 'respectively, mutually parallel.
These olabots are integral in rotation with the shafts on which they are mounted by means of grooves 9 along which they slide.
The intermediate shafts 8, 8 'carry at their end two pinions 10 and 10' respectively meshing with the same pinion 11 carried by the driven shaft 120
The clogs 7, 7 'are provided at one of their end with a crown 13, 13' having internally grooves intended to engage in the grooves 6, 6 'of the shafts 4 and 5 respectively.
The pinions 10 and 10 'each form with the pinions 11 carried by the driven shaft 12, a receiving gear pump.
The sliding of the olabots 7, 7 'along the grooves 9 in order to cause the engagement or the disengagement of the oorespohdant shaft with one of the shafts 4 or 5 is controlled by the handle or the like 14. For this purpose , each clabot 7 or 7 ′ provided at its surface with a cylindrical groove 16 in which engages a fork 17 in the form of a cylindrical half-ring carrying a pin or the like 18 in which a sleeve 19 integral with a journal is journalled. 'a support 20, mounted on the shaft 21 carrying the handle 14, the support 20 on the one hand, and the support 20' on the other hand which is connected to the ring 17 'driving the clabot 7' are rigidly connected by means of a sleeve 22,
mounted crazy on axis 21
The sleeve 22 is driven in rotation around the axis 21 by the lever 14 by means of the collar 23 wedged on the axis 21, and to which it is connected at 25 by a tab 24 diametrically opposed on the support 20 to the sleeve 19.
As shown in the accompanying drawing, the point of drive of the half-ring 17 'by the support 20' and that of the half-ring 17 by the support 20, are diametrically opposed relative to the axis 21, so that a rotational movement of the latter determines the sliding of the claws 7 and 7 'in two opposite directions.
At the lower part of the axis 21 is wedged a drum 26, provided with ramps 27 judiciously distributed over its surface. In these ramps 27 are engaged lugs 29 connected to the branches 28 of a fork-shaped part, pivoting around an axis 300
The ramps 27 are arranged on the surface of the drum 26 so as to communicate to the fork 28 during a rotation of the axis 21 a desmodromic oscillating movement that this fork communicates through its end 31 to the axis 32 of a valve bushel schematically represented at 330
This ball valve 33 is interposed on the intercommunication circuits established between the transmitting gear pump formed by the pinions 2 and 3 on the one hand, and the receiving gear pumps, formed by the pinions 1011 and 10 ',
11 on the other hand. The fluid circuit of these pumps is as follows-.
The emitting gear pump 2, 3 continuously sucks oil through strainer 34 and a suction pipe 359 while it is pumping back oil.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
it through pipe 36 into ball valve 33.
The latter makes it possible to establish communication between the pipe 36 and one of the three pipes shown at 37, 38 and 39. The pipe 37 leads to an orifice, not shown, through which the oil can be conveyed to the crankcase. , while the pipe 38 leads to the suction port 40 of the gear pump constituted by the pinion 10 'and the pinion 11. For its part, the pipe 39 leads to the suction port 41 of the receiving gear pump, constituted by the pinion 10 and the pinion 11. There is schematically shown at 42 the outlet pipe of the receiving gear pumps.
Of course, the pipes shown schematically at 35, 36, 37, 38 and 39 are joined, by pipes inside the pump casings and not shown, to the supply or outlet ports of these pumps.
Furthermore, the distributor valve 33 is arranged so as to automatically place the pipe in communication with the casing, which, momentarily, is not joined to the pressurized pipe 36.
The operation of the device which has just been described is as follows:
We have seen previously that under the action of the drive forks 17 and 17 'the wandering clogs, 7 and 7', slide on their drive rods longitudinally and in opposite directions to each other. ; it follows that if, by splashing, the rings 13 are brought together at the end 6 of the shaft 4, the shaft 12 is driven via the pinion 2 of the shaft 8 and the pinions 10 and 11, that is to say with a single reversal of the direction of travel.
If on the other hand, by splashing, the rings 13 'are brought together at the end 6' of the shaft 5, the shaft 12 is driven by the motor shaft 1 via the pinions 2 and 3 of the shaft. intermediate 8 'and pinions 10' and 11, that is to say with two reversals of direction of travel, therefore in the same direction as the motor shaft 1.
In both cases, the mechanical transmission brings about an equal reduction depending on the respective dimensions of the pinions 10, 10 'and 11.
The equalization of the peripheral speeds of the clogs before engagement is obtained by prior coupling of the emitting and receiving pumps, that is to say by acting on the distribution of fluid between the pipes of these pumps. Thus, in the case where it is desired to drive forward, the motor shaft 12 by splashing the intermediate shaft 8 ′ with the shaft 5, the circulating pressurized oil is first directed. in the pipe 36, in the pipe 38, which has the effect of driving the receiving pump in rotation, formed by the pinions 10 'and 11, and therefore driving the propeller shaft in rotation 12. It can be seen that this command can be carried out by the same lever 14 controlling the engagement of the mechanical transmission.
Naturally, the arrangement formed by the assembly of the stalk 14 of the axis 21, of the drum 26 and of the ball valve 33, can be replaced by any other equivalent arrangement operating in the manner of a fictitious lever, which to Starting from a neutral position is liable to oscillate by attacking an olabot, then by causing the suitable preparatory coupling between a transmitting pump and a receiving pump of the hydraulic transmission, finally by causing the engagement at the end of the stroke. positive of two appropriate intermediate parts of the mechanical transmission.
As we have seen previously, the flow rates of the pumps are chosen so as to achieve, on the one hand, the coupling at suitable speeds.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
of the motor shaft and the driven shaft and on the other hand, the discharge of the hydraulic circuits after splashing,
The casings of the emitting and receiving pumps can advantageously be formed by the casing proper of the mechanical transmission, possibly providing internal orifices and pipes which are suitably placed and come from the foundry.
On the other hand, without departing from the scope of the invention, the principle of the auxiliary hydraulic transmission which has just been described can be applied to clutches comprising a greater number of auxiliary shafts and of another type. than those with olabots that have been considered.
In practice, the assembly of the pinions forming the gear pumps can be carried out by means of bearings housed in the flanges of the casings of these pumps ,,
The transmission device described above can be applied to the case of reducers or speed multipliers capable of establishing any desired ratios between the speeds of driving shafts and of driven shafts.
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment shown and described, which has been given only by way of example.
