orientable and removable, for boring machine. In machines of this type, it is desirable that the spindle can turn at high
<EMI ID = 2.1>
speed, while the drive mechanism of the whole. machine retains reduced speed.
The invention is characterized by the fact that the spindle
is equipped with an independent control mechanism, which can be activated on demand, and which allows the spindle to be driven at high speed, while the other mechanisms of the machine maintain a reduced speed, in order to eliminate the risks of undesirable heating, which may result from too rapid rotation of said mechanisms.
An exemplary embodiment of the object of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view with partial section of the drill head rotating at low speed; FIG. 2 shows the control mechanism of the head, in the high-speed operating position, as well as the operating lever of the mechanism.
In the example shown, the spindle support, constituting the frame of the machine, is designated by 1. The. arm 2, carrying the teta drill holder 3, is mounted on the support 1. In the head 3. slide; vertically the spindle sleeve 4, in which is mounted 1. 'tool-holder shaft 5. At the upper end' of the sleeve 4, is fixed a housing 6, in which is housed the 'screw box.

tesses according to the invention. If it is not a continuous dimmer. this gearbox consists of a sliding gear train 7, comprising a small pinion 8 and a large pinion 9.
The movement of the sliding gear 7 is controlled by means of a

ment 10, wedged on the motor shaft 11, while the small pinion 8 cooperates with a toothed wheel 12, also wedged on the shaft 11, with which it engages when. the train 7 is slid, the pinion 9 being brought out of the engagement of the wheel 10. The engagement of the pinion 8 with the wheel 12 corresponds to the high speed, used, for example, for small bores. When the pinion 9 is engaged with the wheel 10 the speed of rotation of the spindle is lower; it is used, for example, for the execution of large bores or thick passes. The shaft 11 carries a sliding bevel gear 13 and is driven in rotation, by means of a bevel gear 14, from the main shaft 15, shown in dotted lines in the drawing.
The drill head can be oriented around the axis 15 relative to its support arm 2 and can be immobilized in the desired position.
