teaux superposés;
Figs. 2 et 3 montrent, à plus grande échelle, respectivement en vue frontale et en plan, la lame de couteau supérieure d'un moulin tel que montré en Fig, 1;
Figs.

IMPROVEMENTS BROUGHT TO COFFEE MILLS.
The present invention relates to improvements made to coffee grinders and relates very particularly to grinders of the type in which the grinding of the coffee takes place by crushing the beans.
In grinders of this kind, as used up to now, the crushing of the coffee beans is obtained by the rapid rotation of one or more horizontal knives superimposed mounted, in their middle, at the end of the axis of an electric motor arranged vertically in a base surmounted by a cup or closed container, containing the coffee to be ground, and in which the beans are subjected to the threshing and crushing action of the aforementioned knife or knives.
In these known devices, the cutting edge (s) of the knives is or are plain or smooth, and it has been found that the mounting of a determined quantity of coffee beans requires a fairly long time. Furthermore, ground coffee does not always have the desired fineness and uniformity of grind.
The subject of the invention is means making it possible to obtain, in a coffee grinding apparatus of the type defined above, a much faster and more efficient grinding action than has hitherto been the case. In addition to the resulting reduction in current consumption, there is also a great fineness and uniformity of the ground product.
For this purpose and according to the invention, the leading edge or field. blades of rotating knives, instead of being smooth, is sawtooth cut, the shape of these teeth preferably being determined so as to ensure the efficient breaking of the coffee beans, while tending to maintain the products broken in the central area of the bucket.
By way of example, a preferred embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which
Fig. 1 shows a coffee grinder of the type in which the knives shaped according to the invention are applied, this grinder being equipped with two knives.

superimposed teaux;
Figs. 2 and 3 show, on a larger scale, respectively in front view and in plan, the upper knife blade of a mill as shown in Fig, 1;
Figs. 4 and 5 show, on a larger scale, respectively in front view and in plan, the lower knife blade of the same mill.
As shown in Fig. 1, the coffee grinder incorporating the idea of the invention is constituted by a base a in which is arranged vertically an electric motor whose shaft b protrudes into a container or cup. ± made of metal, which is closed by a cover d, preferably of transparent material.
On the protruding shaft end b are wedged by a nut ± the knife blades 1 and g, according to the invention.
According to the invention, the blade f, which may be flat or curved upwards at one or both ends, present, as shown particularly in FIG. 3, an edge or leading field fl, which is shaped like a sawtooth.
The blade g, which, as shown in FIG. 4 may also be flat or curved downward at one or both ends, present as shown in FIG. 5, a leading edge g1 also shaped as sawtooth, but disposed on the side opposite to that of the toothing f1 on the blade f.
Optionally, similar leading edges could be provided at 12 and g2, as shown in phantom lines in Figs. 3 and 5.
These saw teeth may, according to the invention, be formed on the leading edge of straight or curvilinear blade blades.
Considering Figs. 3 and 4, it will be understood that the saw teeth f1 and g1 acting in the direction indicated by the arrows, constitute a means of breaking coffee beans, much more effective than a single cutting edge or leading edge and that, by their shape, these same teeth will tend to retain the broken beans in the central zone of the cup. ±, to allow the descent of the beans, not yet broken, accumulated in the vicinity of the wall of the cup c.
It goes without saying that the thickness given to the blades such as 1 and g will vary, depending on the capacity of the receptacle containing the coffee to be ground.
It should be understood that according to the invention, the saw teeth presented by the @ oules leading edges of the knives may receive any other conformation, called "sawtooth", than that shown in Figs. 3 and 5.
Thus, for example, instead of angular hollows, the saw teeth may present between them hollows of rounded shape or of any other curvilinear shape capable of promoting the action of crushing the beans or collecting the ground coffee.
Finally, it should be noted that, according to the invention, the sawtooth conformation may be given to the crushing knives of all grinding devices whatever they may be.
