<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

QUICK COUPLING WITH SLEEVE FOR VENTILATION PIPES.
The conditions, which are required for an irreproachable connection of the ventilation pipes, are, owing to the special circumstances of mining, very different from those which generally govern the couplings of the vent pipes. pipes. Failure to perform a sealed coupling in a durable manner is very difficult due to the vibrations to which the vent pipe installations are inevitably subjected in mining.
The coupling of the ventilation pipes must have sufficient mechanical resistance, while achieving a perfect seal and it must not be too rigid; it must be able to be carried out quickly and easily, in order to be able to move or replace the ventilation pipes in the shortest possible time.
It is further essential that the coupling elements of the pipes are mounted at the location of the sleeve so as not to cause any restriction of the free passage section at the location of the coupling and to prevent the coupling. more possible flow losses
Coupling sleeves for pipes are already known in which the ends of the pipes to be coupled penetrate one into the other and are sealed off by a seal. These couplings, however, are not sufficiently stable and become permeable in case of vibrations of the pipes. In addition, the irregular shape of the pipe ends makes it more difficult and more expensive to manufacture the pipes.
Furthermore, pipe couplings made by means of clamps are already known, in which the joints of the pipes are clamped between the outer and inner clamp bands with the insertion of felt gaskets. But neither do they provide a vibration-free seal, nor do pipe couplings by means of movable flanges, which rest against the edges of the pipe ends and are fixed against each other. the other by means of screws and bolts with the interposition of a sealing disc. Often we also notice in other known types of coupling that after several displacements, leaks occur as a result of deformations.

pieces of pipe.
Systems known as quick couplings for pipes have also already been proposed, in which the connection and the sealing are obtained by a bayonet closure or by a lever. These coupling constructions use intermediate pieces reducing the cross-section or they are too complicated in practice to be used in mining because of the necessary employment of many separate elements.
The present invention relates to a quick coupling for ventilation pipes, which eliminates the aforementioned drawbacks, which satisfies all the conditions expressed at the beginning and in which the disassembly and subsequent reassembly of two pieces of pipes can be done without removing the existing parts. nor add new ones,
and that as often as one wants, with simplicity and speed. The new coupling only uses smooth pipes, that is, without any internal or external change in diameter.
It essentially consists of two metal rings fixed for example by welding to the ends of the pipes to be coupled, one of which has the shape of a jinn sleeve and the other is cylindrically profiled in the form of a step, so that the two metal rings can penetrate one into the other, Enveloping panel carrying on its upper surface several toggle quick closing members distributed over the periphery By actuating them the protruding annular half of the metal panel fixed to the other pipe slides in a metal ring in the form of a sleeve and compresses an intermediate seal made of elastic material,
so that the joints of the pipes are firmly joined to each other airtight and also mechanically. The sleeve-shaped metal ring embraces by its rear part of greater thickness the pipe and holds it energetically and it is mounted, for example welded, on the latter at such a distance from the place of junction of the pipes that its part thinner and the upper surface of the pipe ends there is an annular space., in which is housed a sealing ring, for example rubber.
The stepped cylindrical metal ring is mounted and fixed by its smaller diameter segment on the other pipe far enough to protrude above the junction point for a length which is somewhat less than the depth of the space annular in the metal ring in the form of a sleeve.
The upper part of the stepped metal ring has an outer diameter which is a little less than that of the inner diameter of the sleeve-shaped metal ring. The stepped portion remote from the junction has an outside diameter equal to that of the sleeve ring.
By maintaining approximately the same thickness for the stepped ring, there is a void between the pipe and the stepped portion, so that the latches of the toggle closures, which are welded to the top surface of the Sleeve Panel attack. like a hook the edge outside the stepped ring and, following the lowering of the toggle, penetrate the protruding portion of the stepped panel into the annular space of the metal ring in the form of a sleeve, As a result, the sealing ring is compressed on all sides and the two pipes are sealed airtight at the junction.
Likewise, a mechanically energetic joint of the pipes is thus achieved, the stability of which is further increased by the fact that the metal ring in the form of a sleeve overhangs the place of the joint.
The drawing shows the new sleeve coupling for ventilation pipes. In this drawing:
Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section through two ventilation pipes at the junction point, including a metal ring in the form of a sleeve, a metal ring 'stage., And the quick closing, Fig. 2 shows an end view of the pipe sleeve coupling towards the pipe (arrow A) comprising three quick-release closures evenly distributed around the circumference of the pipe.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
At the end of the pipe 1 is externally fixed a metal ring 2 in the form of a sleeve, for example by welding. This ring, which comprises a portion 3 of greater thickness, is fixed at such a distance from the junction point that its portion 4 of less thickness forms with the upper surface of the end of pipe 5 an annular space 6, in which is housed a sealing ring 7 made of flexible material.
A stepped cylindrical metal ring. 9 has a portion 10, the outer diameter of which is a little smaller than the inner diameter of the sleeve-shaped metal panel 2, this ring is mounted and welded to the other pipe 8 at a distance such that it protrudes the end of the pipe 8 of a length, which is a little smaller than the depth of the annular space 6 formed by sleeve-shaped metal panel 2.
The stepped metal ring 9 has a portion 11 which has an outer diameter equal to that of 1.9 ring-shaped; sleeve and about the same thickness as its portion 10, so that this portion has at the end opposite to the junction a free edge, which serves as an attachment point for the lock 12 in the form of a bar. hook of the knee lever forming an angled lever 13. The angled angled lever 13 can pivot on two bearings about 19 axis 15, which is mounted in a support 14 fixed to the sleeve-shaped ring 2; the angled lever 13 actuates the latch 12 pivotally mounted around the axis 16. The latter is mounted in the forked part of the lever 13.
Figa 1 shows in its lower part a toggle closure in the open position, that is to say not locked o In the quick closure shown in the upper part of this Figure, the lever 13 is folded in the direction of the pipe 1 ; } the hook-shaped end of the latch 12 has caught the upper edge of the portion 11 of the stepped metal panel 10, pushed its portion over the junction point into the annular space 6 and thereby caused mismatch. complete with the seal 7. The latch 12 has in its forked lower part recesses 17, which embrace the axis 15, after the lever 13 (or the pair of levers) has assumed the position of. closing.
Each pipe thus has at its end a metal ring in the form of a sleeve with a toggle device and at its other end a stepped metal ring (see pipe 8 in Figo 1). As shown in Fig. 2, several, for example three, toggle closures have been distributed, at equal distances on the periphery of the sleeve-shaped ring, they are fixed on 1 ring, on which the bearing supports are welded.
Instead of welding the bearing brackets to the metal ring, they can also be mounted freely on the metal ring and penetrate through hook-shaped members into a circular rear groove of 1) metal ring.
The use of. This new pipe sleeve quick coupling provides a secure and mechanically strong seal connection of two pipes and allows for quick pipe assembly and quick replacement of pipes separately. The reuse of pipes from a disassembled installation does not present any difficulty, because. by virtue of the conformation of the coupling elements with their protrusions surmounting the junction place, the ends of the pipes are protected against deformation and tearing. As moreover all the coupling elements are mounted on the upper surface of the pipes and these are not subject to any change in diameter, the free flowing cross section of the pipes is not unfavorably. influenced.
To prevent easily accessible closures of a vent pipe installation from being opened recklessly or by incompetent persons, the ends of the bent levers can be rusted by means of hooks and eyelets provided at the periphery of the pipes or blocked in any other way.
