   '' IMPROVEMENTS TO HANDLING DEVICES.

The present invention relates to improvements to handling devices, more particularly to two-wheeled trolleys of the hand truck type for handling barrels, barrels and containers or similar loads.

The object of the present invention is characterized by extreme simplicity, both in its elements for lifting the load and in its elements for the automatic tilting and wedging of the barrel or of the other load to be handled.

According to the invention, the stretchers of the carriage have lower parts in the form of cams, capable of coming into contact with the ground and of lifting the load with minimum effort. When the hand truck is drawn, said cams firmly hold the load during transport in cooperation with a cradle connecting the upper parts? of the two stretchers, said stretchers also comprising an upper transverse element around which can oscillate freely at least one member capable of automatically securing 1-hooking and tilting of the barrel or of the other load when the hand truck takes over. a reclined position.

The cam-shaped lower ends of the two stretchers terminate in angled profiled jaws, capable of sliding under- and lifting - the load when the lower parts of the stretchers come into contact with the ground .

The aforesaid cradle is made up of a transverse element connecting the two shanks., And having a curved longitudinal profile suitable for the loads to be transported., So as to firmly hold the load when the hand truck is tilted and during transport, while the tilting and hooking member of the load consists of at least one bar or slat of suitable length hinged freely in the center of a transverse stirrup connecting the two stretchers the free end of this falling slat by its own weight against the inner rim of the barrel by tilting the latter when the hand truck is tilted, and this regardless of the height.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

of the load to be transported.

Thanks to these provisions, the hand truck guarantees a great speed of the maneuvers of loading, unloading and transport, as well as an absolute safety against any maladjustment.

The essential characteristics and the major advantages of the present improvements will emerge more clearly from the following description of a non-limiting example of execution, shown diagrammatically in the appended drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side schematic view of an improved hand truck according to the invention as it is placed against a drum to be loaded.

FIG. 2 is a similar view at the time of lifting and tilting of the load. @
FIG. 3 is a side view on a reduced scale showing schematically the hand truck during transport of the drum.

Figure 4 is a perspective view of the improved hand truck.

According to these figures, the improved trolley or hand truck according to the invention consists of two stretchers 1, the lower parts 2 of which, made in the form of a cam, are terminated by square-shaped jaws 3. whose function is to slide under the load, in this case a drum 8 to lift it when the cams 2 come into contact with the ground.

On a cross member ¯4 is articulated a bar or slat 1 suspended freely and tending to keep a vertical position under the effect of its own weight.

A cradle cross member 6 is used to firmly hold the load which at the same time gets stuck between the stretchers 1. during movement. A pair of wheels 1 and a support 9 for the feet complete the trolley.

Figure 1 shows schematically the first movement of the maneuver.

The barrel is arranged vertically, and the spouts 1 of the stretchers 1 rest on the ground and on the edge of the barrel at a certain distance from the diameter of the lower circle of the barrel. The slat.1 is engaged by simply pivoting in the edge of the upper part of the barrel 8. By pressing with your foot on the crossbar .2 and by exerting a traction in horizontal direction at the upper end of the stretchers, the slat comes abut against the rim of the barrel by tilting the latter. At this time, the nozzles 1 losing their fulcrum against the lower rim, slide under the latter, thus approaching the diameter of the barrel and are in fact located under the barrel.

Figure 2 shows schematically this position of the carriage. The cams 2 now come into contact with the ground and lift the load until it reaches the position of figure 3, this lifting requiring only a minimum and progressive effort until the moment that the center of gravity is reached. tee of the barrel reaches the vertical which passes through the center of the wheels 7. The assembly is now perfectly balanced and ready to move,
It goes without saying that the shape, dimensions and materials of the various constituent parts are essentially variable, and that the trolley or hand truck thus improved can be supplemented by any in principle any accessories.
