Dans la forme d'exécution représentée dans la figure 2, le foyer 1 est disposé sur de hauts pieds 8 en position couchée. Pour autant que les pieds soient en bois il est possible d'enfoncer, dans leur extrémité supé- rieure, des clous pour les protéger contre la chaleur du foyer. Le récipient d'expansion 3 des gaz de fumée est, dans ce cas encore, disposé transversale- ment au foyer et relié à ce dernier au moyen de la tubulure 2 garnie du (;

PROCESS FOR COMBATTING THE EFFECTS OF JELLY AND DEVICE FOR APPLICATION
OF THIS PROCESS.
The object of the present invention is a process intended to combat the effects of jelly by the use of a stove to be heated by means of a solid or liquid fuel, the invention being characterized in that under the body radiating heat on the plants, use is made of an expansion vessel with a large surface area joined with the proper opening of the fireplace, for example by means of a small pipe, and in which the vessel is The smoke gases are given the opportunity to cool before their evacuation into the outside air through the openings made in this receptacle and which give access to it.
Attempts have been made to avoid, by means of the invention, the inconvenience perceptible in presently known frost-defense foci, consisting in the loss of most of the heat which they develop. - loppent, due to the fact that the temperature of the combustion gases leaving the furnace and that of the heat radiating surface of the furnace are so high that they cause the birth of a powerful updraft carrying heat into space developed without giving it the opportunity to spread over the area to be protected against the effects of frost.
In the device according to the invention, the flue gases have the opportunity to cool in the expansion vessel, and as moreover the expansion vessel is constructed to relatively large dimensions compared to the flow rate of the gas. combustion chamber, the temperature of the walls of the expansion vessel may not rise to the point of being able to cause the above-mentioned upward air current.
The effective cooling of the flue gases in the expansion vessel is still advantageous in another aspect, especially considering that the water vapor in the outgoing flue gases comes closer to its dew point, whereby the gases escaping from the device form, immediately after leaving the hearth, a cloud of smoke and fog which remains in suspension above the area to be protected, preventing the effective thermal radiation of the plants, and operating in me-

The reflection diffuse thermal radiation from both the expansion vessel and the fireplace.
The invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawing showing the two embodiments of the device, drawing in which Figure 1 shows, front view and partially in section, the device provided mainly for the preservation of fruit trees, and the FIG. 2 also partly in section and seen from the front, a device intended for use in vineyards, on cereal fields and similar places with a view to defending low vegetation against frost.
The reference numeral 1 in figure 1 denotes any fireplace of a method of construction already known as such previously in which use is made, as fuels, for example, of wood, of rami, peat, briquettes, charcoal or oil. Above the hearth 1 and transversely to it is mounted a cylindrical expansion vessel 3, connected to the relatively short pipe 2 of the hearth and pierced in its two end faces with orifices ¯4 through which the gases of smoke is evacuated into the outside air. Above the pipe 2 is mounted the cover 5 which has the task of spreading the flue gases flowing from the hearth, in such a way that they heat as uniformly as possible the surface of the expansion vessel.
So that as much of the heat from the expansion vessel as possible is directed upwards onto the fruit trees to preserve frost, and that as little as possible is directed downwards, therefore towards the soil surface , the lower part 6 of the expansion vessel is made clear by means of a plaster of lime mortar or similar coloring matter, and most effectively painted white, and the upper part 7 assuming that the expansion vessel either made of black sheet iron, painted or left black, as dark surfaces are known to radiate heat more effectively than light surfaces. The fireplace 1 is provided with an ignition valve and a draft register, in a manner known per se.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the fireplace 1 is arranged on high legs 8 in the lying position. As long as the feet are made of wood, it is possible to drive nails into their upper end to protect them against the heat of the fireplace. The expansion vessel 3 for the flue gases is, in this case again, arranged transversely to the hearth and connected to the latter by means of the pipe 2 fitted with the (;
Flue gas opening 5 The flue gas exhaust ports 1 are drilled in both ends of the cylindrical expansion vessel. As the heat developed in the device shown in this figure must be directed especially obliquely, downwards, the lower part of the hearth is painted or left in black, while the upper part is painted clear, preferably white.
In the embodiment shown in figures 1 and 2, any discarded sheet metal container can be used as an expansion vessel, since it is possible to make the orifices ¯4 and a larger opening. great for the placement of the hearth, which can also be configured by means of such a sheet metal container. For the shaping of the hearth it can, likewise, be made use of sheet metal containers of this kind.
In order to allow the expansion vessel 3 to be easily fitted and also to be easily removed, for example for cleaning purposes, it is placed on the hearth without being specially attached to it. in this case the pipe 2 can, for example, provide sufficient support to the expansion vessel.
With the aim of causing thermal radiation as uniform as possible, it is advantageous to arrange the expansion vessel on the hearth in such a way that their longitudinal axes form between them approximately a right angle as is the case for the embodiments shown in the drawing.

The design and the description relating thereto are naturally only intended to make the idea of the invention tangible. Within the scope of the present invention, the specific practical embodiments of the device may vary considerably. This particularly concerns the shape of the flue gas expansion vessel and the execution of the holes therein. In order that, during storage and transport, the device occupies the smallest possible space, the expansion vessel is adopted to a size such that the hearth can be accommodated therein. To meet this circumstance, one end of the expansion vessel may consist of a removable cover.
Within the scope of the invention it is also possible to give the device an embodiment in which, instead of using an expansion vessel, two or more of them connected together in series, the last one, are used. of the series being provided with outlets to the outside air.
