EMI1.1
dans cette formule R1 représente un noyau benzénique ou naphtalénique possé- dant un hydroxyle en ortho par rapport au groupe azoïque et éventuellement d'autres substituants ;

PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING DISAZO DYES AND THEIR COMPLEXES OF
CHROME, IRON AND COBALT.
It has been found that very valuable disazo dyes are obtained which can be transformed into chromium complexes. iron and cobalt, by suitably combining a molecule of an o-aminophenol or an o-aminonaphthol, a molecule of an 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-sulphonic acid and a molecule of an naphthol, optionally sulfonated, capable of copulating ortho with respect to hydroxyl, so as to produce dyes corresponding to the general formula
EMI1.1
in this formula, R 1 represents a benzene or naphthalene ring having a hydroxyl ortho to the azo group and optionally other substituents;
R2 represents a naphthalene ring, optionally sulphonated, having a hydroxyl ortho to the azo group, the n @ to R1 and R2 having together, at least one sulphonic group; one of the letters Z represents a sulfonic residue and the other letter Z represents a hydrogen atom or a sulfonic group
To obtain the chromium, iron or cobalt complexes derived from the disazo dyes described above, either the so-called disazo dyes or the monoazo dyes are treated with agents capable of delivering chromium, iron or cobalt. obtained during the preparation of these disazo dyes.
Chromium and potassium alums, chromium and ammonium alums can be used as chromium, iron or cobalt donor salts;

It is clear that the metal donor salts described in the examples can be replaced by any of the metal salts listed above. The corresponding metal complexes are then formed.
The following compounds can be taken into consideration as starting materials:

EMI4.2
amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-3,, 6-disulfonic acid and 22.4 parts of 2-hydroxy-naphthalene-6-sulfonic acid is heated to boiling for several hours in an aqueous solution of sodium acetate containing 30 parts of ferrous sulfate .
The dye obtained contains iron in the complex state; it dyes the leather in extremely light-fast gray-brown shades.
EXAMPLE 10. -
23.4 parts of 4-nitro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid are diazotized in the usual manner and copulation in the presence of sodium carbonate with 23.9 parts of 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-4 -sulfonic. The aminoazo dye is then isolated and then diazotized and coupled with 22.4 parts of 2-hydroxynaphthalene-6-sulfonic acid.
In order to convert the disazo dye thus obtained into its iron complex, it is treated for several hours at 90-100 ° C. with an aqueous solution of 30 parts of ferrous sulfate containing sodium acetate. The iron complex dyes the leather in very light fast gray-brown shades.
EXAMPLE 11., -
The disazo dye obtained according to Example 10 from 23.4 parts of 4-nitro-2-aminophenol-6-sulfonic acid, 23.9 parts of 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-4- acid sulfonic acid and 22.4 parts of 2-hydroxynaphthalene-6-sulfonic acid is converted to its chromium complex by heating at boiling for several hours in a solution of 40 parts of chromium fluoride in 1000 parts of water, in the presence of sodium acetate. The chrome complex dyes the leather in very light fast gray shades.
Other high value disazo dyes and their chromium, iron or cobalt complexes are obtained, for example, from the following components:
