On connait un grand nombre de machines pour broyer les feuilles de plantes fibreuses, telles que le Henequenn, le Magey et d'autres semblables; on a fait avec ces machines connues de nombreuses tentatives infructueuses pour extraire la fibre des troncs de bananier, car la structure des pétioles constituant le tronc du bananier est absolument différente des feuilles des agaves mentionnés ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

IMPROVEMENTS IN DEFIBRATION MACHINES.
The present invention relates to defibrating machines, and more particularly to certain operations of defibrating machines which make it possible to obtain a machine of the type indicated, the operation, efficiency and efficiency of which can be clearly appreciated, at the same time. course of the descriptive thesis below.
The improved defibrating machine according to the invention allows the extraction and use of the fiber from the trunks of the banana tree, the fine and delicate fiber of which had not yet been able to be extracted or used industrially and commercially, for lack of '' a suitable device or mechanism
The main object of the invention is to produce an improved machine capable of extracting fiber from the banana tree, which is delicate, light, resistant to tension and friction, and refractory to rapid rotting.
A large number of machines are known for crushing the leaves of fibrous plants, such as the Henequenn, Magey and the like; many unsuccessful attempts have been made with these known machines to extract the fiber from the banana trunks, because the structure of the petioles constituting the banana trunk is absolutely different from the leaves of the agaves mentioned;
that in the latter the fiber is enveloped in a coarse and hard bark, which must be crushed and broken up with violence, the petioles of the banana trunks cover their filaments with a kind of thin and supple cu- ticle, but resistant to breakage, by friction. This is why it was necessary to imagine a series of mechanisms capable of detaching these cuticles from the fiber without damaging the latter and without detriment to their aforementioned qualities.
The machine according to the present invention differs from those used heretofore by the fact that it rids the petioles of the banana tree of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
its cuticles, with softness and delicacy, without mistreating the fibers, which are joined together by a series of compartments formed by an infinity of crisscrossing fibrils.
This particular constitution makes their separation difficult if we want to avoid breaking a large number of fibers, which would otherwise be thrown away with the waste which must always be reduced to a minimum, so that the exploitation of the product becomes advantageous.
The aim of the invention is to provide an apparatus which, by gentle and delicate rubbing, first on one side of the petiole and then on the other, detaches the cuticles, without suddenly penetrating to the heart of the fibers which are wants to extract, while avoiding grinding as was inevitable with known machines, which unilaterally flog and rub the material, since they extract the filaments by detaching the bark on one side through the fiber itself , flattening it, deforming it and weakening its resistance.
The fiber of the banana tree, fine and thin, cannot withstand such a treatment and this is what justifies the failures suffered by the use of such inadequate machines.
This being said, it will be very easy for technicians to establish the differences between the prior machines and that which is the subject of the invention.
The following description, accompanied by drawings, will make it possible to specify the particular features of the invention. In these drawings, the same reference numbers are used to designate the same components.
