Mounting of a folding stock or crutch in
firearms.
In firearms fitted with a folding stock, the latter is mounted to pivot on a vertical or horizontal pin. It does not matter whether the pivot forming the pivot axis is constituted by an ankle, a via or the like. All these mounting methods still require a complicated locking device in order to immobilize the butt in these different positions, which devices undergo frequent wear, so that the orosse is always less and less stable in its operating position. This condition worsens / further due to subsequent wear, which adversely affects the accuracy of the shot.
The present invention eliminates all the drawbacks mentioned above and allows automatic compensation of all the games which could be produced by wear; moreover, it allows the butt to be locked in its operating position, the stability of this position being further improved by the pressure of the butt against the shooter's shoulder. An exemplary embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, where fig. 1 is a side view of the butt in its operating position; fig. 2 a plan view of the same stock with partial section of the plate intended to receive it; freezes 3 a section along the line I-I of FIG. 1, while figs 4 and 5 show the process of folding the butt.
The stock 1 has at the front a head 2 which can be engaged in the appropriate recess of the plate 3 intended
to receive the butt.
The head 2 is crossed by an oblique slot 4 in which the tube 5 and the spring 6 are mounted.
After introducing the head into the plate 3, the stock is fixed once and for all using the fixing screw 7 which passes through the tube 5 and is screwed into the plate 3. The tube 5 can advantageously have a height such that it will prevent tight jamming of the head 2 of the butt 1 even in the case of fully tightening of the screw 7, in the event that this screw does not have an appropriate recess. By screwing the screw 7, the tube 5 is rigidly joined to the weapon, that is to say to the plate, 3; however, the head 2 of the stock 1 is pivotally mounted in the recess of the plate 3 and can move approximately in the axial direction of the weapon. Pressure

which is therefore, as well as under the action of the oblique walls 9 and 13 and of the slot 4, automatically stressed.

firing, the pressure of the spring 6 is further reinforced by the pressure of the butt 1 against the shooter's shoulder. Thanks to that
<EMI ID = 3.1> operating position, with elimination of all clearances
which could result from breaking through the bearing surfaces 9
and 13 or 10 and 11, and possibly inequalities due to construction.
To bring the butt 1 to the anterior position, we
pulls this stock and the head 2, which is integral with it, towards the rear along arrow 12, which has the effect that the
oblique wall 13 which, during this movement, rests against the tube 5, acts so as to move the head 2 away from the bearing surfaces of the stops 10 and 11. As a result, the tube 5 is placed in the center
of rotation of the butt 1, which can now be folded down according to the arrow 14, to occupy its former folded position.
The butt can also be made to fold down
vertically and can be split. The invention makes it possible to completely eliminate the use of any locking or stop devices and to stabilize the position of the stock in all the directions in which it could be requested.
The slot 4 could be curved or broken, which would not change the nature of the invention.
