n LAVABO" "
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La Fig. 1 est une vue de face, partiellement en coupe, du lavabo ;
La Fig. 2 est une vue en plan de celui-ci,
La Fig. 3 est une vue en coupesuivant la ligne III-III de la Fig 2 ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

EMI1.1
n WASHBASIN ""
The invention relates to a washbasin of more or less rectangular shape, comprising a bowl and a horizontal part connecting thereto.
Wash basins of this kind are already known, which are made of artificial stone. They have the disadvantage that the compressive strength of this material is relatively low, so that it is necessary to give a great thickness to the walls of the sink to ensure the required strength. As a result, these sinks are very heavy. In addition, artificial stone is subject to wear and tear, while it can also experience the corrosive effects of various substances. Another disadvantage lies in the fact that, in the known construction, the bowl and the horizontal part form two separate elements, so that these must be fixed to each other and that, in addition, it is necessary to assemble them tightly, in order to avoid leaks at the assembly joint.
The object of the invention is to establish a washbasin which has various advantages over known washbasins.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This object is achieved thanks to the fact that, according to the invention, the bowl, the horizontal part and a protective screen are established in a single piece of thin enamelled cast iron.
This gives a sink which is much lighter than the known sinks made of artificial stone. The compressive strength of cast iron is in particular considerably higher than that of artificial stone, so that the washbasin according to the invention can be executed with walls with a thickness of a few millimeters, for example 4 mm. , the weight of the sink is therefore low. In addition, the enamel coating is harder than a polished artificial stone surface, and more resistant to wear. Another advantage is that enameled cast iron is more resistant to freezing and attacking these chemicals.
The washbasin according to the invention can be executed in such a way that the protective screen extends along the rear face, along the side adjacent to the horizontal part and along the side opposite to it, stretched as a rounded edge slightly higher than the plane of the horizontal part extends along the, front face.
According to the invention, the protective screen has a height of at least 20 centimeters above the plane of the horizontal part. Preferably, the sink is provided with a 3C on protective screen. high, which prevents soiling of the wall against which, or the walls between which the sink is mounted, so that it is not necessary to apply tiles to the walls.
The rear face and the side faces can be inclined and provided with a folded top edge. This facilitates assembly, noted that the top folded edge can be rested on a slat attached to the wall.
The protective screen has the advantage that these openings can be provided there for one or more taps and for an overflow, while thanks to the inclined rear face and the edge.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
folded up, sufficient space for the inlet and outlet pipes is left behind the rear panel. The known washbasin cannot be provided with such a high and inclined protective screen, without further increasing the weight, which is normally already considerable.
The underside of the bowl is provided with studs or other projections which form centering means for a hollow base which is arranged around the discharge orifice. This has the advantage that the washbasin can be mounted by means of this plinth, combined with a support tube forming at the same time a towel holder, without having to make a base, the washbasin simply resting on the walls. neighbors using a simple slat attached to them.
Other features and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description that will be given below with reference to the accompanying drawings which show an embodiment of a sink according to the invention. In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a front view, partially in section, of the sink;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of it,
Fig. 3 is a view in section following the line III-III of FIG 2;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view along the line IV-IV of FIG. 2, and
Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view of the base, taken along the line V-V of FIG. 3.
The sink according to the invention comprises a basin 1 forming a whole with a horizontal part 2 and a protective screen 3 which extends along the rear face 4 and along the lateral sides 5 and 6. A folded edge 8 is formed. to the front face 7 and extends slightly above the plane of the horizontal part 2.
L? horizontal part 2 is very practical for use

the most diverse. You can put children on it while washing them, you can sit there to wash your feet, you can place twisted laundry, etc ... The water possibly falling on part 2 is returned by the edge 8 towards the cup 1. It should be noted that where a "horizontal part" is referred to in the specification and claims, by this is meant a part which is approximately horizontal. Preferably, part 2 has in particular a very low slope, in order to promote the flow of water falling, on this part.
As it emerges from the drawing, the protective screen 3 is inclined towards the rear and to the side and it is provided with an edge 9 folded back towards the rear at the rear face 4 and outwards at the lateral sides 5 and 6. This edge can rest on a single slat 9a which can support the washbasin on three sides when the latter is mounted in a niche of suitable dimensions, or on the rear face and on the right side when the washbasin is placed in a corner.
The batten can be interrupted locally to provide sufficient free space for the water pipes. If in the washhouse of a large building you want to mount a series of sinks against a wall or two rows of sinks back to back, you can rest the folded edge 9 on a wooden frame, possibly combined with partitions between the rows of sinks and between sinks in each row.
On the front face, the protective screen 3 is terrine by more or less triangular faces 9b, by which the inclined side faces of the protective screen are connected to the vertical walls of a dwelling or the like. Openings 10 and 11 for taps and 12 for an overflow are provided in the rear face of the protective screen, while an evacuation orifice 13, which can be closed by: .. using a plug, is provided. in the middle of the bottom of the

The washbasin is supported by a base 18 formed of three absolutely identical and therefore interchangeable cast iron parts, while it is open towards the rear, as shown in FIG. 5., A collar 19et a foot 20, which are also identical to each other and therefore interchangeable, are respectively fixed to the upper edge and to the lower edge of the base, by means of bolts and nuts. Studs 21 are formed on the bottom of the bowl 1 and constitute central means for the collar 19 of the base 18.
The hollow base has the advantage that it supports the bowl and hides, moreover, the supply and discharge pipes, yes, however, remain easily accessible for repairs, if the column is removed from this support.
Thanks to its many advantages, the washbasin according to the inventior: is particularly suitable for installation in small houses, where space for a normal bath is not available.
In addition, the washbasin can advantageously: ent be installed in a children's bedroom, even in dwellings with a bathroom.
