<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
A cet
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
Fig. 9 est une vue en perspective.
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Device for loading and unloading vehicles transporting bulk materials and especially vehicles collecting household refuse.
This invention relates to a device for the loading and unloading of vehicles used for the transport of bulk materials and particularly of household refuse collection vehicles, comprising a revolving bucket in the form of a drum and a paddle wheel rotating at the same time as this one.
In a known device of this type, the paddle wheel has two pick-ups which are covered on the inside of the paddle wheel, partially by the wall of the paddles and are provided, towards the inside of the bucket, with valves which are maintained
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
closed by springs and which is opened at the top of the bucket by arms actuated by cams. The emptying of these collectors is insufficient, because the refuse can fall freely through the side openings only in small part, especially since their natural slope angle is relatively large. The operation of the valves is complicated and the operation of the springs is questionable.
The loading of the collectors can only be done partially, because the opening of these is not provided with any cover; unloading cannot be done through the paddle wheel, especially since the latter is covered from the outside by a partition with a narrow opening. As a result, this system has hardly received any application.
The object of the invention is to avoid all these drawbacks.
It consists first of all in placing inside the paddle wheel a slide kept fixed, on which the materials falling from this wheel slide into the bucket when loading the vehicle. In addition, the slide can, according to the invention, tilt so that the materials slide on it outwards when unloading the vehicle. For this purpose, according to one embodiment of the invention, the wall which covers the inside of the bucket below the slide is removable, and, in particular, capable of tilting outwards. In this way, a rapid loading and unloading of the skip through the paddle wheel is ensured by very simple means.
This can be achieved even better when the paddle wheel is fully open on the inside and only carries a few radial scrapers, the spacing of which in relation to the other makes it possible to accommodate large objects. dimensions. This makes it possible to fill all the space available in the paddle wheel without any obstacle and also to empty it easily and efficiently. In this
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Indeed, according to another characteristic of the invention the paddle wheel is covered on the side where it is open, at least in the direction of its forward movement by a fixed re-entrant.
At the same time, this provides a sealing device of very short length between the rotating part and the fixed part and consequently ensures a great reduction in wear and a great saving in gaskets compared to known re-entrants, because the According to the invention, the internal edges of the fixed re-entrant do not necessarily have to ensure a sealed closure with respect to the paddle wheel, since the material which infiltrates in these places falls back into the paddle wheel and is thus again pushed back into the dumpster.
The internal diameter of the paddle wheel may according to the invention be smaller than that of the bucket, especially so that this wheel fits therein. However, it is particularly advantageous for unloading that the internal diameter is equal to or greater than the diameter of the bucket. At the same time, we are thus in more favorable conditions for reducing the height of fall during filling, which constitutes an advantage which the known device mentioned above does not have because the paddle wheel in this case is covered. on the outside by a partition with a narrow opening.
As the device according to the invention makes it possible to unload the vehicle without it being necessary to open a heavy and large cover and consequently without the intervention of special dynamic forces, use is preferably made of. special devices capable of tilting to allow material to be loaded without the release of dust.
The invention is first of all completely independent of the shape of the collecting drum or bucket. Special advantages
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
are ensured by the use of skips provided with suitable advancement surfaces and drive surfaces whose direction of advance loading is opposite to the direction of rotation.
In the first case, they significantly accelerate the loading speed in general and in the second case, this action occurs mainly during the period extending until the filling at mid-height of the bucket, during the - which materials, as we know, accumulate on the loading side of the bucket, which however, in the device according to the invention, is no longer a cause of trouble and does not appear, moreover, outside the vehicle. This mode of advancement has the great advantage of allowing complete filling of the skip without leaving any dead spaces and without having to change the direction of rotation in any case - even for unloading - or to use a gear shift mechanism. .
Due to the unfavorable reaction caused by the accumulation of refuse at the loading end during the first half of the filling period, the practical application of this advancement system had heretofore had to be abandoned.
The invention avoids this drawback in the most advantageous manner.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the slide can tilt around the axis of rotation of the collecting drum, that is to say of the bucket. This gives rise to a particularly simple construction and maneuvering during tipping, since under these conditions the slide can be tilted from the loading position to the unloading position, and vice versa, together with the rotating bucket in any case. For this purpose, the slide is arranged according to the invention in a circular cover mounted so as to be able to rotate concentrically to the axis of rotation of the bucket.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In addition, the cover can be unlocked, that is to say released from its fixed position, for example from its position of attachment to the vehicle frame or to the body of the body, and be engaged with the body or with the paddle wheel, as appropriate. The maneuver can thus be done without any difficulty from the driver's seat; tipping itself, the rotating bucket is available for the control. Unlocking and locking can be carried out using a single handle if, according to the invention, they are effected by the movement of a single stop member mounted on the cover with the possibility of locking itself. move and by means of which the connection can be made with a fixed end stop or with a rotating stop.
The slide may, within the scope of the invention, be connected to the cover to form a single block. Preferably, however, it is removable from the cover, so that it can. , by opening the latter, enter the interior of the bucket, without the need to remove the cover itself, which would require the use of strong hinges. In addition, this offers the advantage of allowing easy replacement of the slide, which is a member subject to heavy wear.
The cover also has, according to the invention, in its part located outside the openings which are advantageously provided with valves opening outwards.
In the loading position, these openings are located above the slide and allow a glance inside the bucket; the dust which forms in this place is prevented from escaping through the valves.
Another improvement lies in the fact that the slide extends inwardly over the entire internal width of the paddle wheel. In the first place, we thus accelerate the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
unloading, since the material which as a result of the rotation of the bucket is then still somewhat drawn upwards does not strike any vertical end wall of the cover but can fall unopposed into the paddle wheel.
However, so that hard bodies contained in the refuse cannot get stuck as a result of the gradual narrowing which results from this arrangement in the connection between the inside of the bucket and the free spaces of the paddle wheel, the slide door, following a another characteristic of the invention, on its internal face in the direction of discharge during discharge, a cover plate provided with scraper edges for the paddle wheel. This cover sheet also has the function of preventing, during loading, that the materials which are forced onto the internal face of the slide cannot again be brought back to the outside.
On the other hand, scrapers exert their action on the inner edge of the cover situated at the top during unloading, so as to prevent the materials from accumulating there and thus opposing the unloading.
Below the slit between the cover and the paddle wheel is a collecting vessel with a closable opening, and preferably of sufficient capacity to be able to collect at least all of the material from leaks. through this slot for a full load of the bucket. In this way it is possible to dispense with ensuring the tightness by special packings, which gives rise to a notable saving in these products.
Two different embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is an overview of the household refuse collector vehicle,
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Fig. 2 shows, front view and in longitudinal section, an embodiment of the invention in the loading position.
Fig. 3 shows it, front view and in longitudinal section, in the unloading position,
Figs. 4 and 5 are longitudinal sectional views of another embodiment in the loading and unloading positions, respectively.
Fig. 6 is a front view outside,
Figs. 7 and 8 are detail views in longitudinal and front elevation.
Fig. 9 is a perspective view.
The drum-shaped bucket 1 carries at its loading end a paddle wheel 2 and it is provided inside with a guide plate 36 for the discharge of the materials.
It is set in rotation by the motor 37 of the vehicle by means of a gear 38, in a direction of rotation opposite to the direction of discharge of the guide plate 36 during loading and which is also maintained for unloading. The wheel 2, the pallets of which are indicated at 4, is open towards the interior of the bucket and covered on the left and on the right in the direction of its depth by a cylindrical re-entry 5 mounted so as to remain fixed. This re-entrant - leaves at its lower part a free space 6 and at its upper part a free space 7; it carries a wall 8, which delimits the inside of the bucket 1, and a slide 9. In the loading position, the materials slide inside the bucket on this slide.
For unloading, the slide 9 and the wall 8 are tilted around their axis 3, so that the materials can fall from the bucket 1 into the opening 6 of the re-entrant 5 and therefore into the paddle wheel 2 of where they are pushed back onto the slide 9 where they slide outward.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The fixed re-entry 5 has in the direction of travel A a ridge 10 protruding in the pouring opening 6 inside the paddle wheel 2 and the paddles 4 are set back by a corresponding amount. This creates a narrowing of the discharge pressure of the paddle wheel, so that the large-sized materials contained in the refuse and which must precisely pass in this place can only cause jamming at this point. It is also possible to give elasticity to this edge or to these pallets so that they can possibly spring out.
The re-entrant 5 rests on rollers 11 of the paddle wheel 2, the support device 12 being fixed to the frame 13 in such a way that it cannot be rotated.
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 4 to 9, the drum 1 which rotates around the axis 14 is enclosed in a casing 15 fixed to the chassis of the vehicle and carrying at its end a ring 16. In the latter is mounted, so as to be able to rotate therein, a cover circular 17 carrying the slide 18 which is fixed therein in a removable manner. The latter extends in the direction of the depth and over the entire internal width of the paddle wheel 2. It is only above and below this slide that there are small surfaces. transverse 19 and 20, the first 19 of which has openings 19 '. Towards the outside, the paddle wheel 2 is covered by cylindrical surfaces 21 in the cover, the discharge opening 6 being formed in these surfaces.
Inside, it is only in the direction of advance corresponding to the unloading (rotation is done in the same direction according to the arrow A both during loading and unloading) that there is a cover 22, having a scraping edge 23, which leaves the inner surface of the slide 18 unobstructed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The cover 17 carries a stop member 24 subjected to the action of a spring which tends to push it down. This member is applied on a fixed counter-stop 25 when the cover 17 is stationary and is held in this position by a fixed control edge 26. If the latter is moved aside by means of a traction rod 27, the stop member pivots up and down under the action of its spring and is placed in the path of the stops 28, fixed to the paddle wheel 2, which drive it, thus causing the cover 17 to swing around the axis 14 of the drum.
When a position located at 1800 from the first has been reached, a second suitable member 24 will be placed against the fixed counter-stop 25 after having been brought back by the inclined surface 29 of the control cam 26 out of the path of the stops 28 paddle wheel 2.
Below the gap 30 between the paddle wheel 2 and the cover 17 is a collecting container 31 to receive material from leaks and which can be emptied by opening the bottom 32.
Scrapers 34 arranged for the drum 1 scrape the inner edge 33 of the cover piece 34, which is located at the top during unloading, and prevent material from accumulating and forming a barrier along this ridge 33, during unloading.
The vanes 4 have flexible, replaceable rubber wear edges 35 which slide in a sealed manner over the cylindrical surfaces 21 and therefore do not allow dust to escape.
