<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Device for mixing liquids".
The object of the invention is a device intended for all applications in which it is necessary to cause vigorous stirring of liquids. This device is, inter alia, particularly suitable for application to washing machines, the technique of which is thus completely transformed. Indeed, one knows that in this type of machine the stirring is, in general, caused by the movement of stirrers, bells, or equivalent elements moving both the liquid and the laundry.
According to the present invention, the agitating elements are omitted and the liquid mass is swirled by a suction and pressure pump or any equivalent device or capable of causing such a movement of the liquid mass.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
By this means, it is obtained that the laundry - respectively any immersed material - is displaced in the liquid mass exclusively by the fact of the swirling movement of the latter.
This new technique results in a greater simplification of the apparatus or machines, a less deterioration of the linen and a much greater efficiency than by the usual means.
Substantially, the device, object of the invention, -consists of the combination, in an appropriate receptacle, of a motor - preferably sheltered from the liquid element-, of a suction and pressure pump embedded in said element. liquid and driven by said motor and optionally by an added cap surmounting and surrounding said pump in order to keep away the laundry or any other submerged objects.
The pump will preferably be placed in the middle of the lower wall or bottom of the receptacle so that the liquid moves in a descending axial column to distribute itself radially towards the bottom of the receptacle and to rise in volutes to reform said descending column. This radial vortex movement is practically uniform throughout the entire mass and the stirring is thus obtained which is all the more vigorous as the pump can turn at very high speed, which is prohibited by ordinary means causing the liquid to move by agitators. .
The invention also relates to a particular embodiment of this stirring device in which the pump is very simply produced by a plate fixed on the motor shaft and on this plate are fixed radial vanes on the end. upper of which is fixed a kind of funnel favoring the introduction, into the simple pump thus produced, of the descending column of the liquid.
The radial vanes are each secured to a portion of tubular wall. The pallets are preferably two in number, radially opposed, and the wall portions
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
tubular integral with said pallets extend in such a way that sufficient lateral spaces remain between them to allow rational evacuation of the mass of liquid introduced by said upper funnel.
the invention also extends to the combination of such a suction and pressure pump device with a receptacle, the bottom of which acts as a support for both the motor and said pump device, the latter being surrounded by a series of bars approaching upwards in such a way that the free spaces for the passage of the liquid towards the pump are larger opposite the pump and smaller, above the latter.
One will obviously be able to produce the stirring device, the main object of the invention, in very different forms and these differences may result from the shape and dimensions of the receptacle or outer casing, the type of suction pump and full force, the method of fixing the pump and the motor and the relative position of these two elements and, finally, the production and arrangement of the perforated cap on top of the pump.
The device of the invention can thus be adapted rationally to each case of application.
By way of example, without any limiting character of any kind, one embodiment is described in more detail below with reference to the appended drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a very summary schematic view of the mixing device according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a conventional perspective view with partial sections of the pump device.
The figure is a section through line III-III of figure 2.
Figure 4 is a schematic radial section through a washing machine applying the brewing device of the invention.
Figures 5, 6 and 7 show very briefly
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
variant embodiments of a machine applying the device of the invention.
As shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1, the stirring device, the main object of the invention, consists substantially of the combination of a receptacle A, a suction and pressure pump B and a motor 0 directly driving said pump. ; optionally, an openwork cap D ,. Preferably, the pump will be conditioned so that the entry of the liquid takes place through an axial column descending according to the arrows F and the outlet, in radial layers, according to the arrows F '.
To obtain this result, use will advantageously be made of an extremely simple device such as shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 2 and 3. This device is substantially constituted by a plate 1 wedged on the axis of the electric motor 2, which is, by a flange, fixed. at the bottom 4 of the receptacle (Figure 4) so that said axis is vertical. On the plate 1 are fixed. two pallets 6-6 'each integral with a tubular wall portion, respectively These latter are extended so as to leave two relatively large lateral passages 9-10.
The vanes are surmounted by a conical ring 11 forming a sort of funnel favoring the adduction of the descending column of liquid to the center of the pump, between the tubular wall portions 7-8. The rotating plate 1 is con- centric to a ring 1 ?, fixed on the bottom 1 of the receptacle 5 and on this ring! ±, are fixed rods or rods, 13 having, approximately on the height of the pump, a vertical or approximately vertical section, and, at at this height, an elbow such that all the bars come closer together in order to reduce the free space between them.
It is important that the perforated cap, whatever its constitution, be extended towards the top of the tank in order to reach a level higher than the normal level N-N (figure 1) of the water in the tank. This arrangement is necessary to prevent the laundry, for example, from coming to rest on the top of the cap thus forming
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
stopper opposing the formation of the descending column feeding the pump.
The plate 1, directly driven by the motor, drives in its rapid rotational movement the vanes 6, 7 and 6 ', 8, as well as the conical ring 11. By this rotation, a vacuum is created inside the pump which , calling up the liquid mass, causes the descending column and the 6-6 'vanes radially and vigorously expel the liquid mass present
EMI5.1
in the pump. Thus, a stirring movement of the liquid & 4K * Â is maintained. ' ? & ***: m'4 energetic,!, which carries the laundry or any other submerged objects. FIG. 4 is a diagram of the application of such a device to a washing machine.
In this execution the bottom 4 is slightly tapered; the bars 13 are surmounted by a common cap 14; the receptacle 5 is mounted on suitable feet 16. and above all blocked by a suitable cover 16
This execution can obviously be significantly modified and it is generally possible to supplement the device described by any appropriate accessories. For example, it is not essential for pump B to be placed in the center of tank 1. It could perfectly well be eccentric relative to the bottom of the tank (fig.o). In this case, the perforated cover D can be frustoconical or result from the compartmentalisation of the tank A by a perforated wall D '.
It is not essential either, that the X-Y axis of the motor is parallel to the Z-Z axis of the tank. FIG. 6 shows schematically an execution in which the motor B is fixed on the conical part of the bottom, the X-Y axis forming an angle [alpha] with the Z-Z axis of the tank. In this case, the cap J can be conical or else be formed by a cylindrical perforated sleeve D '.
Finally, it is quite certain that the motor C does not necessarily have to be in direct attack on the pump. Figure 7 schematically shows an embodiment in which said motor C drives the pump by conical figures E-F.
This attack, direct or indirect, could be carried out by any kind of transmission, known in
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
itself and allowing the motor C to be placed in practically any position relative to said pump.
