<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"Stem for vehicle handlebars and vehicle fitted with this stem
The present invention relates to a stem for the handlebars of a vehicle such as a bicycle, motorcycle and the like.
The known stems have the disadvantage of not giving a suitable fixing of the handlebars and of the. stress at too great mounting moments by giving too much leverage to the parts of the handlebars subjected to the forces. This is the case, in particular, with stems where the handlebars are tightened by means of a bolt housed in a collar.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks.
For this purpose, the aforementioned stem comprises a T-shaped part for accommodating the handlebar hanger therein and the branch of this part, having only one free end, is intended to be fixed to the fork of the vehicle.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In an advantageous embodiment of the object of the invention, the branch of the T-shaped part serving to loosen the handlebar hanger is formed by a slotted cylindrical part, comprising means for clamping the latent lips. .
The present invention also relates to a vehicle provided with a bracket according to the invention.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of a stem for vehicle handlebars and of a vehicle fitted with this stem, given below by way of non-limiting example and with reference to attached drawings.
The fig.l is a front view of the bracket according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along line II-II of fig.l. In the various figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements,
According to the invention, the handlebar hanger 2 of a vehicle such as a bicycle, motorcycle, and the like, is housed in a post 1, which is fixed by one of its ends to the end of the fork 8. by means of a bolt 6. This bracket has the shape of a T, the upper branch of which is hollow and has a longitudinal slot 3.
The lips of this slot are provided with collars 4 in which are housed bolts 5 which can be tightened by nuts 7.
The collars 4 are arranged on either side of the junction of the second branch of the stem to be fixed to the fork.
By giving a suitable length to the branches of the T-piece in which the handlebar hanger 2 is housed, the length of the lever arm of the forces acting on the latter is reduced.
The cases of rupture are in this case much less than in the known devices.
It is understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above, and that many modifications can be made to it, in particular as regards the form, the constitution, the number and the the arrangement of the intervening elements
