<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
sur un collecteur d'air froid préalablement réchauffé, avec volets automatiques pour le cas d'arrêt du ventilateur;
d) prise d'air soufflé pour le foyer à la sortie du ven- tilateur; e) joints de dilatation spéciaux; f) garniture réfractaire interne de la chambre de combustion non fixée mais maintenue par son propre poids sur des parois inclinées; g) garniture isolante interne de l'enveloppe de la chaudière non fixée mais maintenue par des saillies élastiques repo- sant sur une paroi parallèle; h) collecteur d'air froid préalablement réchauffé et col- lecteur d'air chaud disposés à la partie supérieure du foyer de façon à former chicanes pour les gaz du foyer; i) groupage sur un tableau unique de toutes les commandes de la chaudière, ces dernières étant, autant que,possible, assurées par Bowden;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
de l'air chaud, même en des points éloignés; b) en reliant le capot 1 à l'extérieur, on peut réaliser une ventilation aussi bien en été qu'en hiver ; c) la surpression engendrée par le ventilateur permet d'obtenir dans les locaux, même au niveau du sol, une pression supérieure à la pression extérieure, ce qui supprime les entrées d'air froid parasites et améliore le confort avec une température moindre dans les locaux, tout en réalisant une économie sensible de combustible;
d) l'air sortant sous une certaine pression, il est possible de chauffer et de ventiler des locaux placés plus bas que la chaudière ; e) l'importance de la surface d'échange de la chaudière permet, en employant un volume d'air approprié, d'obtenir des températures de sortie d'air chaud dépassant celles utilisées pour le chauffage des locaux, et d'alimenter des séchoirs et des étuves où doit régner une température assez élevée, tout en assurant une ventilation assez importante ; f) en'raison de la disposition de la chambre de combustion et du revêtement intérieur de celle-ci, ainsi que grâce à la grande surface de chauffe offerte à l'échange des calories, les parties métalliques sur lesquelles passe l'air chauffé ne peuvent atteindre une température à laquelle elles seraient portées au rouge, et ne peuvent devenir perméables à l'oxyde de carbone;
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
On fait ainsi varier dans de grandes proportions la température et le volume de l'air envoyé dans les locaux a chauffer. j) les joints spéciaux 27 utilisés pour la suspension de la chambre de combustion permettent la libre dilatation de cette chambre; k) la surface de chauffe, de grande dimension, travaille aussi au rayonnement direct du foyer;

"Pressurized hot air boiler"
The subject of the invention is a pressurized hot air boiler, characterized by the following different points, taken together or separately: a) circulation of the air to be heated controlled by a medium pressure fan and taking place according to a particular circuit which will be described later and comprises in particular a bypass sending directly to the outlet duct an adjustable quantity of air which has undergone a preheating; b) sending hot air by direct pipe and venturi taking the outside air preferably in the vicinity of the boiler; c) use for the forced draft of the sample air chamber
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on a preheated cold air collector, with automatic shutters in the event that the fan is stopped;
d) blown air intake for the fireplace at the fan outlet; e) special expansion joints; f) internal refractory lining of the combustion chamber not fixed but held by its own weight on inclined walls; g) internal insulating lining of the casing of the boiler not fixed but held by elastic projections resting on a parallel wall; h) preheated cold air collector and hot air collector placed at the upper part of the fireplace so as to form baffles for the gases from the fireplace; i) grouping on a single panel of all boiler controls, the latter being, as far as possible, provided by Bowden;
The invention has many advantages over known boilers which will emerge from the following description, taken with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of the boiler.
Figure 2 shows on the right half a section through A-A of Fig. 1 and on the left half a section through B-B of Fig. 1.
FIG. 3 shows a variant of the hot air distributor device.
Figure 4 shows, on a larger scale, the detail of an expansion joint between various elements of the boiler.
In Figures 1 and 2, it can be seen that the boiler is enclosed in an outer casing 22. Inside this casing there is a cold air suction cover 2,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
a chamber 3 containing a fan turbine 36, a combustion chamber 6 around which the cold air circulates, an ascending passage 9 located along the front facade of the boiler, a heating ceiling 16 forming by-pass, a manifold preheated cold air intermediate 10, elements 11 and 12 heated by the combustion gases, a hot air collector 13 and a hot air outlet 14 at the top of which also opens the heating ceiling 16.
The motor 4 of the fan 36 is preferably directly coupled to it at 35 as shown in FIG. I, but it can also be placed at M (FIGS. I and 2) without exceeding the size of the fan, and to control it by belt.
The fan 36 is of the medium pressure type. When it is operating, the cold air enters the suction hood at I, either freely through openings, or brought by a suction pipe (not shown) which makes it possible to take the air in whole or in part at the outside the rooms to be heated. This air first passes through a filter 20 of the appropriate type, which is advantageously constituted by oiled metal trellises. It then passes around the engine 4, which is thus constantly cooled; the air heats up slightly on contact with the motor 4 and, through the cover 2, is brought into the chamber 34. The speed of the air increases, and turbulence occurs in contact with the wall 28 of the smoke box. The air then passes through the outlet 37 into the chamber 3 of the fan.
The fan outlet is directed downwards; the air enters the deflector 5, which has the effect of projecting it onto the walls of the combustion chamber 6. It is possible, if desired, to strengthen the action of the deflector 5 by providing an additional baffle 5a.
Guide baffles 19 force air to pass against the inclined side walls of the chamber 6. A bottom wall
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
at the bottom 23 provides isolation from the ground and guides the air to the front of the boiler, where the vertical passage 9 is located. Following passage 9, the air continues to. warm up to conta, and the front wall 29 of the box to. fumes, which it tends to cool.
At the upper part of the passage 9, the air reaches the separator 30 with adjustable control, and a part engages in the heating ceiling 16, while the other passes into the intermediate manifold 10.
This part of the air then reaches the hot air collector 13 via the elements 11, 12 (Fig. 2) which are heated by the combustion gases, and passes into the hot air outlet 14.
At this point also the heater 16 opens, A shutter 21 makes it possible to adjust the mixture of the air which comes from this heater, and the mixed air reaches the distribution device 15, which can be connected directly to a distribution pipe, or be fitted with a venturi as in the drawings. This venturi has the effect of sucking in at 41, through adjustable orifices, the air heated at the outer upper part of the device, and of allowing the projection of a volume of air greater than that delivered by the fan.
The venturi mounted at 15 can be vertical, as in FIG. 1, or horizontal as in FIG. 3, as required.
It would also be possible, if desired, to place the device 15 not at the top of the boiler, but on a facade (front or rear) of the boiler, for example at the height of the collector 13.
In all cases, the projection device can be. fitted with accessory devices such as deflectors, swivel head, or more or less long emission piping with outlet points directed downwards, for rapid heating and reheating of lower areas of the premises.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The combustion chamber 6 is made of sheet metal lined with refractory plates 24; it is suspended in its upper part from the casing 22 and from the internal walls 28 and 29 by an expansion joint 27 which will be described later and which ensures absolute sealing.
The plates 24 are simply laid along the sheet metal walls, which are suitably inclined for this purpose. Their installation and their replacement if necessary are therefore particularly simple.
The combustion chamber 6 can receive an oil burner through the orifice 7; it is also possible to fit in this chamber the clinker plates of an automatic charcoal hearth or a hand grate, the air necessary for combustion and for draft being supplied if necessary by the fan 36, using a bypass taken from the deflector 5.
The combustion gases rise around the elements 11, 12 and reach the chimney 18; in passing, they successively sweep the walls of the collector 13 and of the collector 10 forming baffles; the chimney 18 may be provided with a venturi supplied with air by the nozzle 17 which takes the air under pressure in the manifold 10. Flaps 32, raised by the air pressure, ensure the seal, in the event of accidental stopping of the fan, between the heating surface and the chimney. The venturi could also receive the air directly from the fan through an appropriate duct.
The chimney can therefore include, if necessary, a fairly long horizontal part and even not include a vertical part, the operation of the fan ensuring the evacuation of the fumes at the same time as the circulation of the air.
The assemblies of the different sheets of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
boiler are made as shown in Figure 4, whether it is the meeting of the combustion chamber 6 and neighboring elements, the meeting of the sheets forming the walls of the boiler or those which constitute the heater ceiling 16 .
As can be seen in FIG. 4, this assembly is carried out by means of a sort of clamp formed by making the ends of the sheets at 39 and 40 parallel and joining them at 44 by welding. This assembly ensures the rigidity of the device, allows for expansion and makes it easy to check the joints from the outside.
In Figure 2, we see at 33 the similar assemblies of the sheets forming the heating ceiling 16.
The side walls of the boiler are insulated by refractory or insulating plates 25, which are simply placed on the sheets and are held in place by tabs 26, forming a spring and resting on the elements 11.
The various adjustment members (separator 30, shutter 21) as well as the control of the fan motor are preferably actuated by sheathed cables of the Bowden type shown schematically at 42 (for controlling the shutter 21, FIG. 1), and all the controls are grouped, on the front face of the appliance, on a panel (not shown) which also preferably carries the thermometers, measuring devices and other components necessary for the operation of the boiler.
This boiler construction has the following advantages: a) the use of a medium pressure fan allows the use of normal piping, ie five mm. pressure drop per meter, for distribution
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
hot air, even at distant points; b) by connecting the cover 1 to the outside, ventilation can be achieved both in summer and in winter; c) the overpressure generated by the fan makes it possible to obtain in the premises, even at ground level, a pressure greater than the outside pressure, which eliminates the parasitic cold air inlets and improves comfort with a lower temperature in the rooms. premises, while achieving significant fuel savings;
d) the air exiting under a certain pressure, it is possible to heat and ventilate rooms placed lower than the boiler; e) the size of the boiler's heat exchange surface makes it possible, by using an appropriate volume of air, to obtain hot air outlet temperatures exceeding those used for space heating, and to supply dryers and ovens where a fairly high temperature must prevail, while ensuring sufficient ventilation; f) due to the arrangement of the combustion chamber and the interior lining thereof, as well as thanks to the large heating surface offered for the exchange of calories, the metal parts through which the heated air passes are not can reach a temperature at which they would turn red, and cannot become permeable to carbon monoxide;
g) the air is filtered before it passes over the motor, which prevents deterioration of the latter by dust; h) a variety of fuels can be used without having to change the location of the combustion chamber; i) the boiler can operate at various regimes.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
my; it suffices to vary the volume of heated air by adjusting passage 21 and the outlet venturi.
The temperature and the volume of the air sent to the rooms to be heated are thus varied widely. j) the special seals 27 used for the suspension of the combustion chamber allow the free expansion of this chamber; k) the heating surface, large, also works with the direct radiation of the hearth;
1) the fan is placed on the path of the cold air, and it is arranged between the suction and the rear wall of the. smoke box, which stops the heat radiation towards the rear of the boiler.
