<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

Devices applicable to da machines. treatment of flax or other textile plant to regularize the layer or sheet of flax.
The present invention relates to devices.
. applicable to machines for treating flax or other textile plant in order to regularize the linen layer or web.
It is well known that, in the operations to which the flax stalks are successively subjected, use is made of machines or devices which are designed in such a way that the stalks are treated only on one half or on a fraction of. their length and which are only subsequently subjected to an identical treatment over the remainder of their length (shelling, scutching).
On the other hand, we often have recourse to conveyors on which the rods are usually kept.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
bare approximately in their central part in order to be treated on either side thereof, it is understood that it is important that the position of the feet of the rods is as uniform as possible.
The present invention takes account of this requirement which becomes more and more imperative owing to the continuity which it is sought to achieve in the sequence of operations and aims in particular to ensure that this standardization can be obtained. at any stage of treatment, but preferably immediately after grubbing.
The purpose of Bile is also to make it possible to bind mechanically, immediately after pulling out and with the machine lead, without any manual intervention being necessary for the movement of the stems from the puller towards the binder and to ensure that the rods are presented to the latter in a thin and uniform layer, being well parallel.
The invention therefore consists essentially in that laterally little relation to the. layer or layer, there is an equalizer which acts on the feet of the rods in order to standardize their positions.
In the practical implementation of the invention, various members cooperate with the equalizer and will be described below in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings which show, by way of example, some applications of the invention. .
Figure 1 is an elevational view and Figure 2 a plan view of a flax harvester provided with an equalizing device designed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 3 is a schematic view showing: The control orga.nes of this device.
Figures 4 and 4A are intended to illustrate the mode of action of this device.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
FIGS. 5 and 6 relate to an alternative embodiment in the case of the application of the leveling device to a harvester.
FIG. 7 relates to a particular mechanism serving to facilitate the advancement of the layer of linen subjected to the action of the equalizer device.
Figures 8 to 13 are schematic views, relating to a device-usable in the case where there is no linker in view. evacuate flax that has been pulled up or picked up.
FIG. 14 is a schematic view showing the control mechanism in the case where the devices according to FIGS. 7 to 13 are used in combination with the equalizer.
Figure 15 shows schematically the application of the invention to a flax collector and, -figures 16 to 19, to a ginning machine.
In Figures 1 and 2 of these drawings, 1 designates the non-rotating axle on which rotates a nozzle 2 carrying one or two pheumatic wheels 3 for circulation on the ground.
This axle 1 is also made integral, for example by welding: 1) a fork 4 carrying a. small pneumatic wheel 5, also for circulation on the ground; 2) a rod 6 around which. turns the stripping plate 7 occupying an inclined position; a rod 8 carrying the arm 9 serving in particular as a support for the guide rollers 10, 11, 12, 13 of the tearing belt 14 cooperating with the plate 7; 4) two rods 15 and 16 whose rôl3 will be -exposed - hereinafter.
With the nozzle 2 forms a body a bevel wheel 17 engaged with a bevel wheel 18 integral with a sleeve
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
chon 19 mounted around the rod 15, provided with a clutch 191 and carrying a chain wheel 20 capable of driving by a chain, ine 21 a chain wheel 22 wedged on a nozzle 23 mounted around the rod 6.
This nozzle 23 carries a bevel wheel 24 engaged with a bevel wheel 25 itself integral with a nozzle 26 capable of rotating around a rod 27 integral with the axle 1 and carrying an angle 28 for a 'cule 29 which serves guiding the flax stems that have been torn off.
The angle iron 28 is also supported by a bar 30 on which is fixed a collar 31 taking around the axle 1.
On the nozzle 26 is wedged a chain wheel 32 which drives ;, by a chain 33; a chain wheel 34 wedged on a nozzle 35 capable of rotating around a rod 36 fitting into a sheath 37 integral with the frame shown at 38.
The nozzle 35 carries a pulley 39 on which a belt circulates,? 40 which is preferably designed so as to give rise to slots 41 formed, in the example shown, between projections 42. This belt further passes around a pulley 43 carried by the curved end 44 of the belt. an arm 45 itself constituting the extension after folding back of the rod 36 to approximately 90 degrees.
Under these conditions, after engagement at 191, the belt 40 is driven by means of the wheels 3 through the intermediary of members 2, 17, 18 to 26, 32 to 33 and 39, and it will be ensured that the. belt 40 travels at the same or about the same speed as the torn flax.
It is understood that, thanks to the intervention of the belt 40, the feet of the Linen stems undergo, from this belt, an equalizing action and that, at the same time, the linen stems are displaced and driven for example towards the body 1leur.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
As can be seen from Figures 4 and 4A, a belt of the absolutely smooth type already achieves a certain result from the point of view of the equalization, but it is preferable to provide this belt with protrusions, since that these act on the rods which protrude from the web to an appreciable extent, as shown in T1 (fig.4A).
This action occurs as soon as the. projection 42 comes into contact with the end of the protruding rod and thus prevents the end of the flax rod from bending in contact with the belt 4U, which is the case, when these projections 42 do not exist, as shown in P (fig. 4).
This advantage is especially important in the event of fallen flax.
The functions of the belt 40 are multiple and can be summarized as follows: a) standardization of the position of the feet, which is of very great importance for the subsequent operations involved in the continuous mechanical working of the flax ,, - given that the stems are often worked over-, only part of their length and then -on another part (shelling, scutching, etc.); b) lestiges are brought to the body 1 their ,, de .manière. , to be well parallel to each other and perpendicular to the binding organ and to form a thin and uniform layer, which facilitates the work of tamping and the removal of the boots once the ligature has been made ...
One moreover easily understands that, in 1 (absence of such an element, the linen would accumulate and become entangled in the space between the pulling device and the binding member.
In addition, any intervention of manpower to pass the flax from the puller to the binder is avoided.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Another important feature of the invention when it is applied to pullers is that provision is made for means by which it is possible to obtain the above advantages and in particular to standardize the position of the feet, regardless of the length of the plucked linen. it suffices in fact to act by hand on the rod 36-45- 44 forming as a whole an elbow shaft to make the conveyor 40 and the pulley 43 pivot so as to bring these members respectively into 401 and into 431 (fig. 2), ce. which allows the belt to exert a trimming action on shorter rods than in the case of those shown in Figure 4.
This adjustment according to the length of the linen while the machine is running avoids having to move the binder.
In order to facilitate this tilting, the rod 45 is extended by a bar 46 forming a lever and being able to be fixed in variable positions thanks to a projection 47 which can penetrate into various holes 48 of a plate 49.
As shown in Figure 2, the assembly is made rigid thanks to a rod 16 also projecting from the axle and a transverse bar 161 connecting the rods 6, 15 and 16.
FIGS. 5 and 6 relate to an alternative embodiment in which the conveyor 40 is replaced by a simple bar 50 provided with lugs 51 and animated with a to-and-fro movement similar to that of a connecting rod thanks to the fact that it is integral with an arm 56 taking on a crank button 52 carried in an eccentric position by a plate 53 wedged, like the pulley 39, on a sleeve 351 rotated around a fixed rod 361 by a chain wheel 341 which is controlled by the pheu- matic circulation wheels on the field of the. way explained in relation to Figures 1 to 4.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The bar 50 is extended by a rod 54 which can move in a slide 55 and on its end situated towards the exit of the flax rods is articulated a'tringle 57 i oscillating around a fixed axis 58.
The assembly 50-57 therefore performs movements which are clearly represented by FIG. 6 with the aid of the lines. chain.
It is advantageous to provide at the outlet of the puller device guides 60 (fig. 1, 2 and 7) which are arranged horizontally above the table 29 and which are usually fixed to the arm 9 in such a way. . that the height of the web heading towards the binder is thus regularized and is compacted while the standardization of the position of the rods is carried out.
In addition, the advancement of the rods is facilitated by means of pushers 61, for example: four in number (FIG. 7) which protrude into slots 62 of the. table 29 and-. which are mounted on an angled shaft 63 controlled from the shaft 361 by means of two wheels, conical 64 and '. 65 '(fig. 9).
Each pusher is free on a crank pin of the bent shaft and is extended by a tail 66 on which is articulated in 67 a rod 68 itself pivotally mounted on a fixed axis 69.
As will be understood, the rotation of 1. ' shaft, 361. drives that of the crankshaft 63 and thanks to the presence of the elements 66 to 69, the pushrods remain in the right position while, alternately, they disappear under. the .table 29 and again protrude in the position shown in Figure 7 so as to act on the stems of flax.
When the machine does not include a binder and you want to produce a discharge of flax, so that it falls on the field without having been tied in sheaves, a device is provided comprising in particular a board 71 which normally occupies a position vertical and can tilt

when a transverse axis 72 on which it is wedged / 7 is

rotated (fig. 8).
The flax is packed against this board 71 between the table 29 and the guides 60 until .-. That the mass of flax has sufficient pressure to make it tilt and bring it to 711 (fig. 8) D ' on the other hand, thanks to a rod 73fixed to the. board 71 and to a connecting rod 74, this tilting of. the board 71 has the effect of causing a hook-shaped part 75 to penetrate into the flax near the equalizer device which is fixed on a pin 76 to which the connecting rod 74 is connected and which is normally erased under the table 29.
The part 75 is designed in such a way as to stop for one or two seconds (position 751) the flax which continues to arrive from the pulling mechanism and this while, following the tilting of 71, the flax which had settled is discharged by example with the intervention of the following means allowing the formation of tufts or javelles:
On the axis 72 of the board 71 is wedged a lever 77 on which is articulated a rod 78 (fig. 11) fixed by means of a spring 79 to a fixed point 80.
This rod 78 carries a part 81 which can pivot at 82 and terminates in a hook 83 which cooperates with a pawl 84 which can engage in the teeth of a ratchet wheel 85 wedged on an axle 86 which rotates constantly and which, for this purpose, is controlled by means of the wheels 3 of the vehicle via the sleeve 2, the wheels 17 and 18 and a bevel wheel 87 meshing with the wheel 18 and wedged on the shaft 86. On this shaft 86 is also freely mounted at its end a plate 88 provided with a lug 89 on which can pivot: The pawl 84.
The table 88 also carries a button 90 attached to a connecting rod 91 on which an arm 92 articulates, extending horizontally above the table so as to tilt.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
around a fixed vertical axis 93 located next to the table 29 and to be brought into a position 921 (fig. 10) by sweeping the flax packed against the plank 71.
One understands in fact that, when the board 71 tilts, it rotates its axis 72 and brings the members 77 and 78 respectively into 771 and 781, the link 78 drives the part 81 which, by tilting, releases the pawl 84 which penetrates in the teeth of the wheel 85. As a result, the plate 88 is set in rotation and drives by the button 90 and the connecting rod 91 the arm 92 which, during a rotation of one revolution of the plate 88, is first of all brought to 921 (fig. 10) puas is brought back to 92. At this time, the. pawl 84 is again retained by the part 81 and the plate 88 is disengaged and stopped.
At the same time, the board 71 has been put back into the solid line position in Fig. 8 and the hook 75 has moved under the table so that the flax which was retained by this hook is released and advances. under the effect of the pushers 61 to accumulate in front of the board 'II. a peculiarity of the device is that, when moving to the right, the arm 92 slides on a ramp 94 in the form of an arc of a circle and inclines from a support 95 so that the arm 92 lowers when it moves outward from. Table.
At its free end, the arm 92 carries a claw 95 which at the end of the return stroke of the arm 92, penetrates the flax, being guided at this moment by the hook 75 entering the flax in the opposite direction and carrying a channel 96 in which the claw 95 slides.
Figure 15 shows the application of the leveling device to a flax collector.
In this figure, 100 shows the usually pneumatic drive wheel for circulation on the ground, with the plate occupying a vertical or sensitive position.

vertically and with which cooperates the belt forming part of the collecting device and passing around a pulley 102 controlled by the driving wheel 100. The pulley 102 is mounted on a shaft 103 carrying on the other hand a chain wheel 104 driving by a chain 105, a wheel 106 wedged on a drive shaft 107 of the linker shown diagrammatically at 108.
According to the invention, provision is made laterally with respect to the table 291 on which the flax moving out of the pick-up device moves., A plate 109 occupying a vertical position a little above the level of the table 291 and fixed at the end of 'a connecting rod 110 fixed on a button 111 carried eccentrically by a plate 112 equivalent to the plate 53 of FIG. 6. This plate 112 is wedged on a shaft 113 arranged vertically and rotated by means of the shaft 107 via of two bevel wheels 114 and 1141.
Under these conditions, the rotation of the shaft 113 produces that of the plate 112 which, by the oielle 110, determines, for the plate 109, a back and forth movement during which it moves away and back and forth. successively brings the stems closer to the flax stems and exerts a slight pressure on the ends of the stems, producing a uniform position in the position of these stems.
In such a pick-up, one can also provide pushers 61 mounted on a bent shaft 631 driven by the shaft-113; just as in Figure 9, the shaft 63 is controlled by the shaft 361 (bevel wheels 1131 and 1132 ).
Figures 16, 17, 18 and 19 show the application of the equalizer device to a ginning machine, for example of the type described and claimed by Belgian Patent No. 427,744 of April 23, 1938 based on the use of a pneumatic wheel 115, part of which of the periphery is traversed by a belt 116 guided by pulleys 1161 and with which cooperates
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
pressure rollers 11'7 without springs acting on the lower end of the belt.
Above the output table 118 of the ginner are horizontally arranged layer height equalizing bars 602.
In addition, pushers 119 (fig.6) 'facilitating the advance. flax cement are mounted on a bent shaft 120 carrying a chain wheel 121 dragged through the chain IL'2 by a wheel 123 wedged on the shaft 124 of the seal wheel 115.
As in FIG. 7, each pusher 119 is provided with a shank 661 on which a rod is articulated at 671.
681 can swivel to 691.
Finally, the. Outgoing stems (straw) can be subjected to the action of an equalizer device consisting of a board 125 placed sideways with respect to the layer of flax moving on the table 118.
This plate 125 is driven in a back and forth movement as shown in Figure 1.7. and for this purpose-it is carried by the end of a rod 126 .oscillating around a fixed pivot 127 carried by a fixed cross member 128 of the frame. This rod 126 is articulated at 129 on an arm 130 mounted. on a button 131 carried in the eccentric position .. by a plate 132 wedged on a shaft 133 driven by the shaft 134., of. comb control 135.
