<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

-PATENT.
Improvements made to masons' hoods.
Birmingham
EMI1.1
Company called: A.D. FOULEES ZIIt4ITDD, at Ludgate Hilll Grande
Brittany, and Mr. Edward Arthur VANN, at the same address.
International Convention: patent application filed in Grande
Brittany on November 11, 1946.
The object of the present invention is to provide a hood for perfected masons.
The invention comprises a V-shaped container made of metal and having at its lower part a socket for fixing a handle, said element, or a part of this element having a shape such that it can serve as a pad for the shoulder.
In the attached drawings:
Fig. 1 and 2 are respectively a side elevation and an inverted plane of a hood according to the invention.
Fig. 3 and 4 are end views of opposite ends of the hood.
Referring to the drawings, the V-shaped body of the hood, which is similar in shape and dimensions to the conventional wooden hood, is made of cast metal.
Any suitable metal can be employed but preferably the casting will be made of aluminum, manganese or other light metal alloy. Towards the center of the lower part
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the hood there is formed a socket b suitable for fixing one end of a wooden or tubular metal handle.
Also reinforcing ribs are formed on the sides of the hood, these ribs preferably being inclined in the direction of their length, and having the greatest width at their lower ends. In addition, a reinforcing rib d is formed along the lower edge of the hood from one side of the socket to the open end of the hood. The part of the lower edge which extends from the other side of the socket to the closed end of the hood is laterally widened and given a shape such as to constitute a pad e adapted to be supported on

the shoulder of the person wearing the hood, it is also possible that the lower part of the hood on each side of the socket can be shaped like a pad.
The present invention makes it possible to provide a hood which can provide better service and better employment than the wooden hoods commonly employed.
