<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

PADLOCKS FOR BICYCLES, IN PARTICULAR FOR THE BLOCKING OF THE .DIRECTION.
@ The invention relates to a padlock for a bicycle, in particular for locking the steering, in which a locking rod is provided with a groove or groove in which engages a pawl influenced by a spring, which is actuated by a flat key.
According to the invention, the pawl is constituted by a lever with two arms, one of the arms of which carries two series of projections facing towards the keyhole of the padlock, suitable for gripping the end of the key. introduced, in such a way that by rotating or tilting the key around a longitudinal edge, the pawl is released from the groove or groove of the locking rod, the latter then being, in a manner known per se , returned, under the action of a spring, to the open position.
In addition, according to the invention, between the pawl and the key opening, a guide for the key may be provided, provided with a pair of projections or lips fitting into the notches formed in the key, between which protrusions or lips and the wall of the guide, the key can turn or tilt so that in the open position of the padlock the notches engage on the protrusions, so that the key can no longer be withdrawn padlock.
In the accompanying drawing, there is shown an embodiment
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the invention. In this drawing: Fig.1 is a longitudinal section of the padlock, along the axis of the locking rod.
Fig.2 is a view of the internal side of the back plate of the padlock.
Fig. 3 is a view of the front plate, with the opening for the key.
Fig * 4 shows, respectively from the side and the front, the guide for the key.
Fig.5 is a side view of the key.
The padlock is formed by a cylindrical case 1 which is formed at the rear by a closing plate 2 and at the front by a front plate 3. The closing plate 2 is provided with an opening 4 for the passage of 'a locking rod 5, as well as a. pawl 6 which can turn on an axis 7, This pawl is provided with three projections, turned inwardly, 8, between which a free space is provided intended to receive the outer end of a flat key 9 (fig. R) ..
The pawl 6 is influenced by a spring 10, which presses the pawl against the rod 5. When the rod 5 occupies the locking position, the pawl 6 enters a groove or groove 11 in the rod. On the rod 5 is mounted a fixed stop 17, against which a spring 18 bears at one end, while the other end of the spring rests on a ring or washer 19, which can slide freely on the small rod 6, which, at . in turn, bears against a / spacer plate fixed to the rear wall 2, the spacer plate leaving, between the washer or ring 19 and the rear wall, a space for the pawl 6.
Perpendicularly to, the closure plate 2 extends a guide 12 (figs 1 and 4), provided with two projections 13 which, on dimensions and spacing, correspond to the notches 14- of the key, in such a way that when the clef9 is fully engaged in the padlock, these projections 13 are located exactly opposite the notches 14.
The front plate 3 is provided with a slot 15 for the key and an opening 16 for the locking rod.
The slot 15 is of such dimension that the key can turn or tilt in one direction around a longitudinal edge, against the action of the spring 10, until the moment when the locking rod moves into its position. release under the influence of the spring 18.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
At the same time, the key rotates or tilts to such an extent that the projections 13 engage with the notches 14 and retain the key. To padlock or block the bicycle, the rod 5 is pushed inwards by hand, until the pawl 6 enters the groove or groove 11. The rod 5 is then engaged in an opening of the support tube of the bicycle. handlebars, blocking the steering. In this position, the outer end of la.tige 5 is preferably in the plane of the outer face of the front wall 3 of the padlock. As, under these conditions, the pawl 6 occupies a substantially vertical position, the key 9 is free in the guide 12 and can be removed from the padlock.
To open the padlock, the key 9 is introduced into the padlock through the slot 15. The key then slides in the guide 12, beyond the projections 13 and engages with its end between the projections 8 of the pawl 6.
If the key is then rotated by a small amount, the pawl 6 rotates around the axis 7 and releases the rod 5, which is released from the handlebar support tube under the action of the spring 18. The pawl 6 is then maintained in this inactive position against the action of the spring 10, and at the same time maintains the key in the tilted position, this key 9 engaging through its notches 14 on the projections 13. guide 12, so that it cannot be removed from the lock unless the rod is pushed in again.
