<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"Shuttle locking mechanism in looms comprising a shuttle clamp".
The present invention relates to the shuttle locking mechanisms in weaving looms comprising a so-called "harlequin" shuttle clamp, a kind of brake shoe which can swing around an axis passed through one of its ends. and is held elastically protruding in the shuttle box.
In known mechanisms of this type, the clamping or braking of the shuttle is not proportional to the live force of the re-entering shuttle, but only to the depth of penetration of the shuttle in its box.
These devices may be suitable to some extent for relatively low shuttle speeds.
On the other hand, for high speeds the braking becomes insufficient, especially when the harlequin and the shuttle have suffered one. some wear.
The object of the present invention is in particular to eliminate this drawback. he
For this purpose, according to the invention, there is provided a braking mechanism comprising a member which, after the shuttle has traveled a certain distance in its boot on its reentry, is displaced to an extent proportional to the live force of said shuttle. and thus causes the application of the shuttle clamp against the shuttle with a force corresponding to the amplitude of the displacement of said movable member.
According to one embodiment of the invention, this movable member consists of a lever which can be made integral with a rotary axis of which the shuttle clamp is itself integral, said lever being, when the shuttle retracts, moved. so that it rotates the shaft in the direction corresponding to the application of the shuttle clamp against the shuttle.
According to a particular embodiment of this embodiment, the lever is connected with a part on which the latch of the loom acts when the shuttle strikes this latch.
Advantageously, this lever is subjected to the action of an elastic tensile force, which tends to return it to the position which it occupies before the return of the shuttle.
In order to be able to round the lever integral with the rotary axis of the shuttle clamp and to detach it at will, a claw clutch is provided, one part of which is integral with the lever and the other part of which can slide on the axis. rotary but cannot turn around it.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
According to another characteristic of the invention, the rotary axis is subjected to the action of an elastic torsional force, which tends to return it to its' position for which the shuttle clamp is at rest, when the axis of the aforesaid lever is free to rotate, a stop integral with the axis being provided to cooperate with a counter-stop of fixed position so as to limit the rotation of the axis to the desired amplitude.
In the particular case of the claw clutch, it suffices, therefore, to release the shuttle before driving it, to disengage this clutch so that the shuttle clamp releases the shuttle by tilting in the opposite direction to the tilting caused. by the stop of the shuttle against the cleat.
The locking mechanisms, of the type to which the invention relates generally comprise a lateral stop placed in the path described by the end part of the shuttle clamp opposite to the part by which the latter is mounted on the rotary axis.
In known locking mechanisms of this kind, this stop must be adjusted by hand from time to time to compensate for the wear of the shuttle clamp and possibly of the shuttle.
The present invention also relates to a device for the automatic adjustment of this stopper under the action of the live force of the shuttle when the depth of penetration of the latter into its box - depth which depends in part on the degree of wear of shuttle clamp and shuttle - exceeds the desired amplitude.
According to a particular embodiment of this improvement according to the invention, the movable member, for example a lever, causing the application of the shuttle clamp during the retraction stroke thereof, is connected to a toothed part, such as a toothed sector or a rack, which, when the depth of penetration of the shuttle exceeds a predetermined amplitude, comes into a toothed part capable of rotating and integral with the stop, so that when the moving part is pushed back by the shuttle to On reentry, the stopper undergoes rotation in a direction such that it is brought closer. of the shuttle fighter to an increasing extent with the depth of penetration of the shuttle in its boot.
@
The connection between the movable member and the first toothed part is made for example by means of a guided rod so that, when the movable member is moved by the shuttle in the direction of blocking, the gear of the two toothed parts occurs as soon as the penetration depth of the shuttle tends to become excessive. This rod is preferably fitted telesoopically in a sleeve articulated on the movable member so that the position of the toothed part of the rod can be adjusted with respect to the toothed part of the stop, means, such as a screw of clamping, being provided to allow the fixing of the rod in its. socket after this adjustment.
Other features and details of the invention will emerge below from the description of an exemplary embodiment of the above-mentioned improvements, illustrated by the accompanying drawings.
Figures 1 to 3 are schematic plan views of a shuttle box provided with a locking mechanism for the ship according to the invention, the parts being in relative positions which they have occupied since then. where the turnip enters the boot, up to the internal end-of-travel position of said shuttle.

Figure 4 is an end view of the shuttle boot, along arrow 1 in Figure 1.
Figures 5 and 6 are detail views of the same part of the mechanism at 90 relative to one another.
FIG. 7 is an elevational view of the clutch mechanism for the positive control of the harlequin, showing the device for returning the rotary axis of which the harlequin is integral. In Figure 1, the shuttle is, shown when it enters its box formed 'of fixed parts 2, 3 and 4 of the frame. The shuttle or harlequin clamp 5 then occupies its inaotive position in which it protrudes, by a rounded part, inside the box of the shuttle. Harlequin 5 is eccentrically oalé by a hub on a shaft 6 around which is mounted a lever 7, one end of which is connected by a tension spring 8 to part 4 of the frame. The other end of this lever is articulated to a rod 9 passing above the cleat 10 of the loom.
This rod 9, which is guided at 11, is passed through a part 12 fixed * to it by means of a screw 13 and extended downwards to face the cleat. (see figures 5 and 6).
The lever 7 has a claw hub 14 forming a part of a claw coupling, the other part 15 of which, pierced with a square channel, is slid over a part of corresponding square section of the axis 6. When the clutch lever 16 has been actuated in the direction of engagement of the coupling 14, 15, the hub 14 and therefore the lever 7 which is integral with it participates in all the movements of the axis 6, while that when the coupling is disengaged the lever 7 can turn freely on said axis 6.
The outer end of the lever 7 is articulated to a rod 17 guided by 18 and carrying, at its free end, a rack or a toothed sector 19.
20 denotes a toothed wheel: attached to a screw 21 passed through a fixed nut 22. said toothed wheel being intended to be rotated by the toothed piece 19 when the latter is brought into gear with it under the circumstances which will be indicated below during the description which follows of the operation of the mechanism according to the invention.
When the shuttle has reached the position shown in Figure 2, it has come into contact with the harlequin 5 and spread it sideways until it hits the stop 21.
The shuttle coming into contact with the stopper 10 pushes the latter back in front of it until it abuts against the part 12. At this moment the linkage-99 moves in the direction of the arrow x and rotates. the lever in the direction of the arrow Y.
The coupling 14, 15 being at this moment engaged, the harlequin 5 wedged on the shaft 6 also pivots in the direction of the arrow * Y and blocks the shuttle by exerting on it a pressure proportional to the energy with which the shuttle was launched from the other side of the loom.
To unlock the shuttle before hunting, it suffices to disengage the coupling 14, 15. In fact, the lever 7 then becomes free to pivot around the axis 6 and is returned to its starting position by the spring 8, while the pin 6 is returned to its initial position by a torsion spring 23, one end of which is fixed to the frame at 24, while its other end is embedded in a ring 25 fixed to the pin 6 by means of 'a screw 26. This ring 25 also carries a chin. 27 which, during this rotation, hits an @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Adjustable screw-shaped stopper 28 of the frame, so that the initial or resting position of the shaft 6 and therefore of the harlequin 5 can be adjusted in advance.
After the shuttle has been driven from the box, the lever 16 is engaged again, which can be done automatically, and during the next reentry the succession of the operations described above is repeated.
As the clearance between the shuttle and the shuttle clamp increases due to the wear of these parts) the shuttle penetrates deeper into the boot,
To obviate this drawback, according to the invention, provision is made for automatic take-up of this play thanks to the adjustable stopper 21 being automatically adjusted by the shuttle itself by the intervention of the rod 17. In fact, more the shuttle penetrates deeply, the greater the angular displacement of the lever '7 with respect to its initial position (see figures 1 and 3) and the more the free end of the rod 17, terminated by a toothed part 19, approaches the wheel 20 of the stopper 21.
When the depth of penetration of the shuttle exceeds a predetermined amplitude, the part 19 engages with the wheel 20 and rotates the latter so that the end of the stop 21 approaches part 3 of the frame.
As a result, the free end of the harlequin will no longer be able to deviate so strongly from part 3 of the frame and that the application of pressure on the shuttle will begin earlier.
To allow the distance between the parts 19 and 21 to be adjusted, the rod 17 is telesoopically mounted in a socket 30 articulated at the outer end of the lever 7, a fixing screw 31 being provided to fix the rod 17 in the socket after its adjustment. in this one.
It should be understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made to it, in particular as regards the form, the number, the constitution and the arrangement of the components. elements involved in its realization, without departing from the scope of the present patent application, provided that these changes are not in contradiction with the spirit of the claims': follow.
