a) elle permet d'obtenir un effet de sou lèvement de l'arrière du ski supérieur à celui obtenu avec les fixations antérieures (plus du triple) puisque le bras de levier L (voir fig. 5) par lequel s'exerce le travail de sou lèvement résultant de l'inclinaison du corps est environ le triple de celui utilisé dans les autres fixations; b) comme expliqué ci-dessus, toute rota tion du pied autour d'un axe vertical est transmise intégralement au -ski (blocage transversal), ce qui n'est pas le cas pour les fixations à longues lanières ou à longs câbles;
Dans la forme d'exécution des -fig. 6 à 10" on retrouve les éléments suivants: a) le bâti ou platine 1 appliqué sur la face supérieure du ski; b) le système de ressorts 7-70b, enfilés sur la tige 5 portée à l'avant par une butée 3a et à l'arrière par un pilier 6a (butée et pilier qui font partie intégrante du bâti 1); ces ressorts repoussant vers l'arrière le man chon 8a, coulissant sur la tige 5; c) le boîtier 14, formant couvercle, dont les parois latérales s'étendent vers le bas jus qu'au voisinage du ski;
f passe sur un renvoi 101 porté par le couvercle et vient s'attacher à sa partie arrière sur un point de la partie avant du levier 10a, qui pivote en 102 sur le boîtier 14; ; e) une plaque 18 faisant partie du boîtier 14 et qui vient coopérer avec -l'éperon 19 exactement comme il a été décrit au -sujet des fig. 1 et 2; f) un levier 10a pivotant en 102 sur le boîtier 14 et constitué par une pièce allongée, de coupe verticale, en forme d'U renversé;
Ce dispositif fonctionne comme suit: lorsque l'on abaisse le talon, l'éperon 19 re pousse le cliquet 18a vers l'arrière, puis passe sous celui-ci (position représentée fig._ 11). Lorsque le talon s'élève ensuite, il entraîne le boîtier 14. Comme celui-ci porte un axe 7 9 relié par la biellette 78 à l'axe 77 fixé sur la pièce 75;
Ski attachment. The present invention relates to a ski binding or attachment device comprising means for interlocking the front part of the skier's foot with respect to the ski.
In accordance with the invention, this ski attachment is characterized by a mechanical device interposed between the rear part of the foot and a part of the ski located behind the heel and arranged so as to greatly increase the effect resulting from the diagonal traction. when tilting the heel forward, and preventing any movement of the foot by -report to the ski other than tilting the heel forward.
Thanks to this arrangement, the traction resulting from the inclination of the body, of the skier forward, results in a lifting force of the rear of the ski which is several times that obtained with known devices intended to produce the diagonal effect. or diagonal traction.

Figs. 28 and 29 are, respectively, a sectional view along 28-28 of FIG. 29 and following 29-29 of FIG. 28 of another embodiment.
According to fig. 1 and 2, the attachment com carries a plate 1 pivotally mounted on the ski by means of a screw 2. This plate carries a yoke 3, provided with a pulley 4 and carrying a rod 5, the other end of which is fixed in a pillar 6 of the plate 1.
On this rod is wound a strong spring 7 resting, on the one hand, against the yoke 3 and, on the other hand, - against a sleeve 8 smoothing on the rod 5 :. On this sleeve is articulated, around the screws 9, a lever 10 whose rear end engages - under a clasp 11 pivoted to the ski by a screw 12.
The pillar 6 carries guide rods 17 engaged in slots. forming slides 1.6 provided in the flanges of a housing 14 which covers the yoke 3.
The lever 10 carries, at 15a, the end of a metal cable 13 passing through the box 14, under the pulley 4, and the other end of which is fixed, at 15b, on the box 14. The latter carries , at its front part, a plate 18 forming an inclined plane and intended to cooperate, in the manner of a lock keeper, with a spur 19 carried by the heel of the boot.
The front parts of the flanges of the housing 14 are folded inwards at 14a and 14b (FIG. 3), so as to leave between them only a space corresponding exactly to the thickness of the spur 19. Like this one. ci is of a relatively large height, when engaged between 14a and 14b, it provides an interlocking connection between the rear of the foot and the attachment, so that any rotation of the foot around a longitudinal axis is transmitted entirely to the ski (precision of the "edge" grip).
The operation is as follows: At rest, the position of the housing 14 is that for which the strand of the cable 13 abou weaving in 15b is perpendicular to the roof of the housing 14. When the heel is lowered, the spur 19 engages between .14a and 14b and relates to 18. It therefore pushes back the box 14, the slots 16 of which slide on the arms 17.
The cable 13 pulls on the lever 10 which, - through the sleeve 8, compresses the spring 7.
As soon as the spur has passed the lower edge of the -platquette 18, the spring 7, relaxing, brings the housing <B> 14 </B> forward and the spur 19 is engaged in the binding which is held in place, it is known that the skier is required, during his movements, to lean the body forward by raising the heel to a height which, in FIG. 1 approximately corresponds to the so-called “forward” position of the skier's body.
As a result, the spur 19 lifts the front of the housing 14, the point 15b of which transmits, via the cable 13, a forward pull to the lever 1.0 and bare sleeve 8. The spring 7 is compressed and reacts in response. resiliently opposing this displacement. In addition, the housing 14, at the same time as it has moved upwards (fig: 1), has been pulled forward due to the engagement of the spur 19 under the plate 18.
The ski attachment described therefore allows the part which connects the ski to the rear part of the boot to pivot and at the same time to slide forward to follow the movement of the heel. This binding offers the following advantages:
a) it allows to obtain a lifting effect of the rear of the ski greater than that obtained with the previous bindings (more than triple) since the lever arm L (see fig. 5) by which the work is carried out lift resulting from tilting the body is approximately three times that used in other bindings; b) as explained above, any rotation of the foot around a vertical axis is transmitted entirely to the -ski (transverse locking), which is not the case for bindings with long straps or long cables;
c) any movement of the foot around a longitudinal axis is also transmitted rota- gally to the ski.
So that the device which has just been described does not present any danger in the event of a fall, it comprises safety means which allow the release of the foot under certain conditions. We will now describe. these means of security as well as their functioning.
As stated above, any lifting of the heel causes the lever 10 to slide forward, because the rear end of the lever 10 'is only maintained by its engagement under the clasp 11. It is therefore sufficient , to avoid release when it is not necessary, that the length of the part of the lever 10 engaged under the clasp 11 is such that, for a skier of given weight, the normal maximum inclination of the body does not produce an advance of the lever 10 greater than this length.
In the event of a forward fall, the skier's living force is added to the skier's weight and there is excessive heel lift. The advance of the lever 10 is then greater than the length considered above and causes the release of the lever 10 which escapes the clasp 11.
The lever 10 then pivots around 9 (fig. 2) and the cable 13 is relaxed. The spring 7 pushes back the sleeve 8 and the caliper 27 whose bar 28, engaged against the notches 28a of the housing 14, pushes the latter back. The keeper 18 is released from the spur 19 and the skier's foot is released.
For safety, in the event of a side fall, the following principle is used: The lateral force exerted by the foot on the hitch in a turn varies with the degree of heel rise and it varies inversely with this elevation.
Since the force producing the release of the fastener must always remain greater than this lateral cornering force, but as little as possible in order to have maximum safety; it is advantageous to obtain the release for a value of the lateral force which is a function of the elevation of the heel and which varies inversely with this elevation.
To this end, any pivoting movement of the plate 1 around the axis 2 is normally prevented by a locking device which can be adjusted automatically as a function of the heel elevation and which must give way under the above conditions.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1, this device comprises two metal wires 24, forming springs, fixed at 25 on the plate 1. Normally, the wires 24 are engaged in grooves 29 (visible in FIG. 2) of a part 30 fixed to the ski. The bar 28 of the caliper 27 carried by a tab 26 fixed to the sleeve 8 bears on les- fils 24. The lever 10 exerts on the tab 26 a certain pressure adjustable by a calibrated screw 10 '(FIG. 2).
The force with which the threads 24 are applied in the grooves 29 varies according to the position of the bar 28, along the threads 24, due to the fact that these threads are slightly sloping (their rear part being, for example, at 4 mm above their front mounting 25), while. that the bar 28 moves in a plane parallel to the ski.
When the heel is lowered, the bar 28 is only a few millimeters in front of the pillar 6. It applies the springs 24 in their grooves 29 with the maximum intensity mum, As the heel rises, the sleeve. 8 slides forward on the rod 5 as well as the caliper 27 and the bar 28 attacks the wires 24 at a lower point thereof and applies them with less force in the grooves 29. A lesser will therefore be required. effort of the spur 19 on one of the cheeks 14a, 14b to rotate the frame 1 on the axis 2 by overcoming the retaining action due to the elastic engagement of the son 24 in. the grooves 29.
The lever 10 will thus escape laterally from under the clasp 11, and by pivoting around it. of its axis 9; will come in the position of fig. 2. The housing 14 will move back, freeing the spur 19 and the foot.
With a view to fixing the plate 1 on the ski, while allowing it to pivot about Tax 2, or <adopt, for example, the means shown in FIG. 1. The plate 1 carries at its front part an angle -2-1, and the ski carries, fixed laterally at 23; a bar 22 which rests on the upper face of the horizontal part of this angle 21.
In this way; the plate 1 can pivot slightly relative to the ski by sliding the angle iron 21 under the bar 22, but the assembly resists the vertical forces which would tend to take the plate 1 off the ski.
According to a variant (FIG. 4), the part 22, rigidly fixed to the ski, is replaced by an angle 22a which can be fixed not only on the upper face of the ski, but on its side walls. Interposed between the vertical part of this angle and the yoke 3 a rod 21a which serves to transfer the forces, while allowing very light. lateral movements.
It can be seen that this attachment device: is based in this embodiment on the idea of transforming the horizontal action of a spring such as 7, extending in the longitudinal direction of the ski, into the vertical action of support from top to bottom opposing the lifting of an element fixed to the heel of the shoe and such as, for example, the spur 19.
In the embodiment of -fig. 6 to 10 "we find the following elements: a) the frame or plate 1 applied to the upper face of the ski; b) the system of springs 7-70b, threaded on the rod 5 carried at the front by a stop 3a and at the rear by a pillar 6a (stopper and pillar which form an integral part of the frame 1); these springs pushing back the sleeve chon 8a, sliding on the rod 5; c) the housing 14, forming a cover, whose side walls extend downwards to the vicinity of the ski;
<I> d) </I> a bell return <I> 4a, </I> pivoted in 4b on the frame 1 and to which are attached, on the one hand, in 4c, a metal strap 13a and, on the other hand, in 4d, a 13f cable. The strap 13a passes through a suitable opening in the sleeve and is attached to a cross piece. 28a which rests on the rear edge of the sleeve 8a (but is not integral with this sleeve). On the other hand, cable 13:
f passes over a return 101 carried by the cover and is attached to its rear part on a point of the front part of the lever 10a, which pivots at 102 on the housing 14; ; e) a plate 18 forming part of the housing 14 and which cooperates with the spur 19 exactly as has been described in the subject of FIGS. 1 and 2; f) a lever 10a pivoting at 102 on the housing 14 and consisting of an elongated piece, of vertical section, in the shape of an inverted U;
this part 10a carries, at its rear part, a longitudinal rod 103, the vertical section of which is in the shape of a <B> V, </B> and which is intended to cooperate with the clasp 11a, of which the corresponding part has a vertical section in the shape of an inverted V (fig. 10). This clasp is mounted in a tubular support 104 fixed to the ski, said clasp 11a being able to oscillate about a horizontal axis.
A spring 105 tends to always bring this moiré iron back to its middle position; g) the safety device is based on the principle described with reference to figs. 1 and 2, but, in this case; it is the part of the strap rolled over the pin 28a which bears on the wire springs 24.
It should be noted that the part of the strap wound on the ss breaks 28a and which, as we come to 'Île lè' ". Dre, plays the same role of compression suf, the spring-wires 24 as the rod 2.8 of fig. 1 and 2, is adjusted in height by the fact that it bears on the lower generatrix of the rod 5.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 6 to 10, the pressure adjustment. exerted by the part 28a on the son 2: 4 results from the fact that the rear end of the rod 5 comprises an eccentric threaded part 5a, of smaller diameter than that of the rod, engaging in the pillar 6a. It suffices to rotate the rod 5 around its longitudinal axis to move the generator of the rod 5 upwards or downwards on which the padding 28a of the strap bears and thus to adjust the height of this part 28a and, by following, the arrow of the wires 24.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 11 to 15, we find the frame 1 and the housing 14. The frame 1 carries two parts 3b and 6b, similar to the stop 3a and to the pillar 6a of the previous embodiment, and in which a rod 5a can slide. The part 3b serves as a stop for a system of springs 7b-705 bearing against a ring 71 fixed: on the rod 5a by a pin 72 (fig. 11 and 15). The housing 14 can pivot relative to the ring 71 about the axis 73, the ends of which slide in horizontal slots 74 provided in the sides of the frame 1 and which form slides.
In this frame 1 pivots, around a spindle 76, groin part 75, formed of two flanges (Fig. 13). A connecting rod 78 is articulated; at one end, on an axis 77 of <B> 1 </B> to part 75 and, at the other end, on an axis 79 of the housing 14. The frame 1 can pivot on the ski about a vertical axis 2. In order to prevent tearing of the frame 1, the front part of the base thereof is engaged under a. U-shaped iron 22, forming a bridge, securely fixed and allowing slight amplitude pivoting of the frame around axis 2.
This bridge 22, fixed at 23 (fig. 13), carries., Rigidly fixed to it, a plate 80 provided with ears 82, carrying the axis 81 of a click 83 intended to cooperate with the front end. 75 'of part 75.
The frame carries an arm 84 of great width and height in order to prevent snow from entering the housing.
Finally, the housing 14 is provided at the front with a pawl 18a pivoting about axes 86. A spring 87 pushes this pawl forward.
The safety device comprises, as in the previous examples, two wires 24 forming springs, fixed at 25 to the frame 1 and applied. by the pin 73 in the grooves of a part 30.
This device works as follows: when the heel is lowered, the spur 19 pushes the pawl 18a backwards, then passes under it (position shown in fig._ 11). When the heel then rises, it drives the housing 14. As the latter carries a pin 79 connected by the rod 78 to the pin 77 fixed to the part 75;
the movement of elevation of the front part of the housing 14 forces the axis 79 é, to describe an arc of a circle having its center at 77 and, consequently, forces the rear end of the housing to slide forward by driving, by the pin 73, the ring 71 which compresses the springs 7b and 70b and by sliding the rod 5a forward in its supports 3b and 6b. There is therefore a reaction of the spring system which resiliently opposes the elevation of the heel.
Due to the mechanical connection between the heel and the spring (in particular the judicious choice of the position of the attachment point 79 of the rod 78), the higher the heel, the less a given increase in its traction on the housing. - product of increase in its elevation.
A similar result can moreover be obtained with the other embodiments (see, for example, fig. 6) by: replacing the single spring 7 of fig. 1 by at least two springs such as 7 and 70b (fig. 6), one of which, 7, is harder than the other. Of course, to prevent the weakest from constantly working on. glued turns, the device will include a sheath 71a cooperating with the washer 71b to limit the compression of the weaker spring.
We will now describe the safety device of the embodiment of FIGS. 11 to 15.
As regards the drops forward, it should be noted that the maximum heel elevation compatible with normal operation does not bring the front end of the rod 5 (provided with an adjustment screw). 88) in contact with the pawl 83. But, by coulter, when the heel exceeds the maximum "forward" position (under the effect of the living force produced by a fall), the screw 88 is struck by the pawl 83- and pushes it back against the action of spring 84. Pawl 83 then releases part 75 which comes into. position of fig. 12.
The housing 14 then moves back under the action of the spring system 7b-70b and the pawl 1.8a releases the spur 19.
In the event of a fall with lateral force, the frame 1 will pivot around axis 2 if the lateral force of the spur on the front of the device has been sufficient to overcome the retention of the spring wires 24 in the grooves of the part 30. This pivoting will cause the lower arm of the part 75 to slide laterally from under the pawl 83 which is fixed on the bridge 22 (fig. 13). The part 75 will then rise as described above.
Putting it back in place is done by folding the part 75 back by hand until its lower arm snaps back into place under the pawl 83. In this embodiment, it is above all to facilitate this reinstallation that the The device has two springs:
The embodiment of FIGS. 16, 17 and 18 is of the same type as that of FIGS. 11 to 15, that is to say that it comprises a housing 14 capable of moving relative to the frame 1 to which it is connected by a rod 78 pivoting at 77 on a bent part <I> 75a </ I> sus. ceptible to slide in said - frame 1. The rear part of the frame 14 is pivoted on a pin 73 capable of sliding with a certain play in the vertical direction, in slots 74 of the frame 1.
This pin 73 is also used to establish the connection between the rear part of the casing 14 and a sleeve 71: running smoothly in the frame 1. The upper part of this sleeve slides under an eccentric screw 150 carried by the frame 1 of the device and fitted with an appropriate locking means (lock nut for example). By rotating this screw more or less, the horizontal plane in which the upper face of the sleeve 71 will move is therefore determined. This sleeve is subjected to the action of the springs 7b and 70b bearing, at the front, on a shoulder. suitable frame 1.
The sleeve 71 carries, screwed into it, a rod 5a guided longitudinally in the frame 1 and the front part of which is intended to cooperate with a pivoted cam 83a, inserted 81, on the frame 1. This cam coacts with a ramp 75 'a key the elbow piece 75a. The cam 83a is wedged on its axis 81 which is bent so that its end forms a lever 83b which constitutes the only part projecting from the apparatus.
The rear part of the rod 5a is screwed into the sleeve 71 and it carries a slot 5d so that by means of a screwdriver this rod can be rotated and its position adjusted in the longitudinal direction with respect to the sleeve 71.
Finally, the flange 22 which is used to fix the frame 1 on the ski, is provided with two notches 22a and 22b forming ramps intended to cooperate with the lever 83b when the frame 1 pivots on the ski around its pivot 2 .
Fig. 1: 6 shows the device in the working position, that is to say that the spur 19 of the shoe has been engaged under the part 18a.
When the heel is raised, the spur 19 drives; through this part 18a, the whole of the housing 14. The latter is subjected to two connections, namely that constituted by the connecting rod -78 whose end 79 describes a circumference having its center at 77, and that resulting from the displacement of the spindle 73 which itself results from the sliding of the sleeve 71 in the frame 1, adjusted by the position of the eccentric screw 150.
The forward movement of the sleeve 71 compresses the springs 7'b * and 70b.
It will be noted that during this operation, the cam 83a occupies a position such that it has passed its neutral point, that is to say that the straight line joining its center of pivoting to the point of contact of this cam with the ramp 75'a is below the per pendicular led by the center of this cam to said ramp 75'a. Under these conditions, the reaction exerted by the whole of the housing 14 on the elbow piece 7 \ 5a can only further press the cam 83a in this position. Therefore, the pin 77 constitutes a fixed pivot point for the connecting rod 78.
We will describe how the safety device plays in the case of a forward fall: In this case ,. the rod 5a comes to bear on the rear part of the cam 83a and causes it to pivot around its center by causing its neutral position to exceed upwards with respect to the ramp 75'a. Once this position has been passed, and under the action of: springs 7b and 70b, the cam continues to turn clockwise and then releases the part 75a which slides backwards. The whole of the housing 14 also moves back - and the spur 19 is released.
As regards the operation of the safety device under the effect of a lateral force "we find, in the device of Figs. 16 to 18, the spring wires 24 fixed, at their front part, on the frame 1. -and the rear part of which rests in grooves of the part 30. It is these springs which fix the whole of the frame 1 in the middle position.
As seen in fig. 16, the pin 73 bears on the threads 24 and keeps the rear end of these strongly pressed in the notches of 30. It is important to note that at the start of the heel raising movement, it is that is to say at the start of the forward travel of the sleeve 71, the housing 14, and consequently the connections to which it is subjected, exerts only a slight force of support by the pin 73 on the wires 24.
At this moment, the support of the pin 73 on the wires 24 results from the action of the eccentric screw 150 which hand holds the sleeve 71 downwards and therefore pushes the pin 73 against the wires 24. When the heel rises and, as a result, the housing 14 moves forward while pivoting around the point 79, the rear part of this housing lowers. As a result, the pin 73 tends to increase its pressure on the wires 24.
These wires 24 are inclined; as seen in the figure, so that a horizontal displacement of the spindle 7 \ 3 causes a progressive decrease in the support force of these threads in the grooves of the part 30. But if we left the spindle 73 free to move under the effect of the movement of the housing 14, this pin, instead of moving horizontally, would approach the frame-1 and thereby increase its pressure on the wires 24.
The latter, although being attacked at a point further away from the notches of the part 20, would therefore be with a substantially greater pressure, so that the bearing force of the threads 24 in the notches of 30 would increase, whereas we want it to go decreasing. It is to avoid this that rollers 73a of suitable diameter are mounted on the spindle 73.
In the rear position of the sleeve 71, these rollers are not in contact with the upper face of the bottom of the frame 1, but from the moment the lowering of the spindle 73 would risk increasing the bearing pressure of the rods 24 , these rollers 73a roll on the frame 1: and thus force the spindle 73 to move parallel to said housing. Due to the inclination of the springs 24, or thus ob holds a reduction in their pressing force in the notches of the part 30.
As a result of this decrease, the lateral force required to force the springs 24 out of the notches of the part 30 decreases as the heel rises, which, as stated above is the desired result. When the springs 24 have - escaped the notches of the part 30, the - frame 1 pivots around the axis 2 and the lever 83b, pushed to the right or to the left as the case may be, climbs along one of the ramps 22a or -22b (fig. 18).
This movement causes the axis 81 to pivot and brings the cam set on this axis beyond its neutral point with respect to the ramp 75'a: From this moment; under the action of springs 7b and 70b, this cam completes its pivoting movement and the housing 14 moves back, as described above.
To return the clip to its operating position, it suffices to push the rear of the device laterally, so that the wires 24 enter the notches of the part 30, a movement which is made easier by the fact that 'at this time (as a result of the retraction of the sleeve) is the lowered front part of said sleeve which is under the screw 150. The lowering of the heel will turn the part 18a around its axis 86 which its spring 18b will recall when the heel will touch the ski. The appearance of the assembly will ultimately be similar to that of FIG. 6.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 19 to 21, the spur 19 is engaged under the spout of a part 18 comprising dice cheeks 37 made of spring metal. The part 18 is articulated at 34 on a frame 1 which can pivot at 2 on a plain base plate 41 fixed to the ski. The part 18 carries a lug 36 arranged to cooperate with a hook 35 provided at the end of a rod 5 sliding in the pillars 6 and 6 '. On the rod 5 is pivoted, at 10 ′, a lever 10. The rear end of the lever - 10 engages under a clasp 1.1 pivoted at <B> 12 </B> on the ski.
A spring 7 is interposed between the pillar 6 and the cam-shaped front part of the lever 10.
From the point of view of the tie itself; <B> the </B> device works as follows: The spur 19 being engaged under the front spout of the part 18, when the heel rises, the part 18 pivots around 34 and its lug 36 pulls the rod 5 forward by compressing the spring 7, the latter therefore resiliently opposing the lifting of the heel.
The heel lift amplitude, allowed without releasing the fastener, is limited by the travel of the rear part of the lever 10 under the clasp 11 @ Safety in the longitudinal direction is obtained as follows: When the heel moves by a greater amplitude than expected; JeAevier 10 escapes from-.closure 11. And .pivots around axis 10 '..
The spring 7 relaxes; - the rod 5 slides. freely to fade; part 18 no longer offers any resistance to the upward movement of spur 19 and the foot is released:
For lateral safety, there is provided a rod forming a spring 38 attached to its rear part in the pillar 6 and of which a front part, curved, 39, engages in the plate 41. This rod 38 is -partially \ engaged. in the base of the pivoting frame 1 which is provided, for this purpose, with a groove 38bis (fig. 21). A spring 42 fixed in front, in 2.
comes to support the rod 38 in its groove, and the force of application of the leaf spring 42 is adjusted by means of a screw 43-: carried by the rod 5. When the lateral thrust of the foot, which tends to make turn the frame 1-around the axis 2, exceeds the determined maximum value, said frame: 1- escapes the holding action of part 38, that is to say that the groove 38bis slides relative to this rod 38. At this time, the spur 19 'escapes between the elastic plates 37 and the foot is released.
Figs. 22 to 24 represent a realization where the action of the spring --is directed from top to bottom.
A metal part 90 is articulated on the axis 91 fixed between two lugs 92 firmly fixed to the ski. A strong flat spring 93, riveted at 94 to part 90, carries a molded part where the inclined plane 18 and the flanks 14a - 14b of the pre-pronged devices for interlocking the spur 19 are found.
The spring 93 acts in the direction F and tends to apply the bottom of the sidewalls 14a and 14b on the ski and, consequently, to lift the part 90. Ira part L in the form of a lyre, made of spring steel, firmly attached to the ski. ski, opposes this lifting because of the elbows 95-95, provided at the ends of its arms 96'-96, biased towards one another by the coil springs 97 of adjustable tension by nuts, come wear on part 90.
The automatic booting is done by lowering the spur 19 on the plane 18 which moves back thanks to the elasticity of the spring 93 to return to cover the spur as soon as the latter has passed below 18.
The ten spring reaction will oppose the lifting force transmitted by the heel. As in the device of FIG. 11, the resistance to an increase in heel elevation varies with the elevation that exists because the effective length of the spring decreases as its point of contact with part 90 changes from 94a to 94b. .
Raising the heel decreases the curvature of the spring and therefore causes the piece supporting the inclined plane 18 to move forward as it rises, allowing it to follow the curve described by the heel. .
In the event of excess elevation resulting from a very strong forward fall, the lug 98, fixed on the spring 93, of a height suitable for each skier, will move the elbows 95b-95b (fig. 24) located behind and below the elbows 95-95. The whole of the part 90 and the spring 93 will rise under the action of the foot and the spur will be released.
Any lateral force resulting from a turn or a fall is transmitted laterally by the spring 93 (fig. 23) and tends to separate one of the arms 96 and therefore to reduce the retaining force on the part 90 by the elbows 95.
The same lateral force will produce a greater reduction in the retaining force as it occurs with a greater elevation of the heel. The degressivity of the restraint force of the safety organ, the need for which has already been explained, is thus again achieved in another way. The tension of the coil springs 97 will be adjusted by each skier so that no untimely release can occur in a normal turn.
Fig. 25 shows a device intended to release the front part of the boot, this result being obtained by the use of cleats liable to yield under the effect of a component appearing, when, following a fall, the ski is fully embedded in the snow and tends, by raising the edge of the sole which is on the side opposite to that of the fall, to release. said sole of the tab of the caliper on which it is engaged.
In fig. 25, the following force f on the cleat 50 results in a twisting of the wire spring 51 as a result of the stop of its angled end 52 against the arm 53 of the handle 54.
The force required so that the edge of the sole can raise the cleat enough to release, depends on where a. place this stop. The ends of the arms 53 are centered on studs 54, their spacing is adjustable by nuts 55. These. studs are fixed in a part 56 which can slide on the ski by fixing its lower part to a rod 57 embedded in a: groove 58 of the ski and held by a bridge 59.
This rod is connected to the whole of the rear device and, for example, for that of FIG. 2, it would be made directly integral with the front of the sliding rod 5.
Like lice. Other release devices; it is the degree of heel elevation which, by the variations in length of the principal elastic organ, will control those of the force of the retaining member, represented here by the degree of twist of the wire. To this end, the sides of the arms 53 are given the shape corresponding to the desired curve of the intensity of the torsion.
For long climbs, with the spur free, the shoe must be held in front by a bottom binding. But since surgeons consider that, even on a descent, it is preferable, at least at high speeds, for the shoe, in the event of a fall, to be released only from the rear, we have been led to create a fixation which , at will, hand hold or not 10 shoe fixed in the stirrup after -liberation.
Figs. 26 and 27 show an embodiment in which the shoe is in broken lines and the device is only shown on the upper half of FIG. 27, the other half being symmetrical with respect to the median vertical plane of the ski. The sole 201 is fitted with the well known sole protectors 202-202- ', but which must be provided a little thicker than usual. These sole protectors are fixed below by the screws 203 and above by the nails 204.
The caliper 205 has a part folded over to the square 206, under which the rear sole protector 202 'is placed. A part comprising a 207 pro cameo along with the arm 208 comprises an axis 209 which the dn engages in the hole 210 of the caliper.
To tuck in the shoe; the cam is raised (dotted position). Thanks to the angle formed by the flanks of the stirrup 205 with the median vertical plane of the ski, the front sole protector 202 passes in front of the cam 207 which is then lowered in order to push the boot a little. The final position of the cam exceeds its neutral point, so that the cam cannot stand. take up only by the skier.
The V-shaped piece 211-212 can be connected by a control recessed in the middle of the ski, for example with the. man chon 71 of the, fig. 16, in a manner analogous to that of the device of FIG. 25. The release of the front attachment then occurs either by the excess rise of the heel and, in this case, it is the ramp 211 which, while advancing, raises the part 208 or by the effect. a lateral fall causing the sleeve 71 to retreat (fig. 16) and, in this case, it is the ramp 212 which raises the part 208.
If you do not want to be retained, the device is removed by removing the arms 208; by disengaging the axes 209; out of the caliper holes 210.
Figs. 28 and 29 represent another embodiment.
The lower surface of the sole is provided, at the front, with a part 801 fixed by screws 301a. In the front notch of the caliper is fixed, at 302 and 304, a part <B> 303 </B> which comprises a. hole 305 to receive the stud <B> 306 </B> of the part 307. The latter has a strong projection 308 and is extended by the arm 309 provided with an ear 310.
To tuck in the shoe, the arm 309 is placed in the position shown in dotted lines. We advance the foot in the stirrup and then bring the arm 309 # against the stop 311. By this maneuver, the projection 308 slightly pushes forward the part 301 of the sole which is thus wedged by exceeding the neutral point by the projection 308.
<B>. </B> When the shoe, due to wear, goes too far, it is sufficient to <B> </B> move the screw hole 304 and thus the hole 30-5 is offset. -
