Definitions
- the present invention relates to a ski binding with a front boot holding element and a rear boot holding element, in which a ski boot can swing into a riding position around the front holding element of the shoe and be fixedly clamped in a lowering position between a front shoe holder and a rear shoe holder by means of a locking mechanism and the locking mechanism is formed in such a way so that the locking only begins when the ski boot is positioned in the descent position.
- the document US 5145203A discloses such a type of ski binding.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a solution for attaching a shoe to a gliding board which overcomes the drawbacks listed above of the solutions of the state of the art.
- an object of the present invention is to provide a secure, simple, economical and user-friendly solution for fixing a shoe.
- the invention relates to a rear boot holding element according to claim 1, a ski binding equipped with such a holding element according to claim 13 and a touring ski equipped with such a ski binding according to claim 14 .
- the picture 2 therefore represents the boot pedal 7 in an available position allowing the heel holding element to be closed by means of a ski boot heel.
- the rear shoe support element is therefore in the boot position on the picture 2 .
- the shoe pedal 7 is in the lowered position so that the heel of the shoe can press on it at the time of shoeing and tilt the heel grip 11 forwards to bring it into the shoe position in which the heel of the shoe is held by this heel grip, thus bringing the rear shoe holding element into the closed position, represented by the figure 1 .
- the picture 3 illustrates a rear support element in a climbing position and a ski boot in the lowest possible climbing position, the boot being held between two inserts of the front boot support element and being able to tilt on an arcuate line around of the front shoe support element.
- the picture 3 further illustrates a ski pole triggering a lever 6 to rotate the heel grip 11 in the open position upwards and retract the boot pedal 7 upwards to reach the ascent position.
- the figure 4 and 5 illustrate other positions of the ski boot in a raised position of the rear boot retaining element.
- the figure 5 more precisely illustrates the rear boot holding element in a climbing position and a ski boot in an upper climbing position relying on an additional climbing aid lever.
- the shoe pedal 7 In this position, the shoe pedal 7 is in its rest position, in other words in its raised position against the upper part of the heel grip 11.
- the invention therefore consists in fixing a ski boot between a front holding element of a boot and a rear holding element of a boot in a ski binding in such a way that it is held in a climbing position between two inserts of the front holding element of a shoe and can swing on an arcuate line around the front holding element and then be fixed relative to the ski in a downhill position, to fix the ski boot to the rear retention element, in which the heel grip 11 of the rear retention element does not include the rigid boot tongue that is usually found on comparable ski bindings for the closure of the rear support but comprises a shoe pedal or shoe tongue 7 movable at the level of the heel grip 11 which will be tilted in the tilting zone (that is to say on the trajectory) of the ski boot 3 before the positioning of the shoe e of ski 3 in the descent position of the rear holding element - hereafter called "position boot” - and the boot pedal 7 will be swung out of the tilting zone (out of the trajectory) of the ski boot 3 for the ascent position of the rear support element.
- the rear holding element has a heel grip 11 intended to hold the heel of the shoe in the downhill position
- this heel grip 11 comprises a boot tongue 7 which is not one piece with the heel grip 11 but which is articulated on the heel grip 11.
- the boot tongue or boot pedal 7 is positioned downwards so that the heel of the boot can come to rest on it during booting to cause the grips heel 11 in rotation towards its position of closing or holding the heel of the shoe, this for the descent.
- the shoe pedal 7 is therefore positioned under the shoe.
- the shoe pedal 7 In the ascent position, the shoe pedal 7 is tilted upwards against the upper part of the heel grip 11 to allow the rotation of the shoe upwards, the heel of the shoe then no longer being held by the grips heel 11.
- the heel of the shoe can come to rest directly on the base of the rear holding element without being hindered by the boot tongue 7 as would be the case in a traditional rear binding element.
- the shoe pedal 7 To close the heel grip 11 using the shoe heel 3, the shoe pedal 7 must be tilted inwards out of its rest position, in the tilting zone of the shoe heel 3.
- the lever 6 is compressed for this purpose preferably towards the rear (6).
- the drive element contact means 9 at the level of the lever 6, control the shoe pedal 7 via the stops 8 provided at the level of the shoe pedal 7, to move it from its position of standard rest in a put-on position in the picture 2 . So when the heel 3' of ski boot 3 compresses the boot pedal downwards, the heel gripper 11 will close and the ski boot is in the descent position.
- the shoe is therefore no longer held by its heel and it can be pivoted upwards around the front shoe holding element to allow the user to walk for the ascent phases.
- the fact of retracting the shoe pedal 7 allows the heel 3' of the shoe not to be hindered by this element 7 and the heel can descend until it comes to rest on the base of the rear support element.
- the shoe pedal is therefore mobile with respect to the heel grip.
- This mobility can be obtained according to several embodiments. It can be mounted so as to be able to rotate relative to the rear holding element. As a variant, it can be provided with another movement, provided that this movement includes a rearward component in the ascent position.
- the shoe pedal can be mounted on the heel grip or on a fixed part linked to the base of the rear holding element.
- the figures 8 to 10 more precisely illustrate the different positions of the shoe pedal 7 in the different positions of the rear holding element of a shoe. On the figure 8 , the rear holding element is in the lowering position.
- the heel grip 11 is in the closed position, intended to hold the heel of a ski boot (not shown). Footing pedal 7 is in the low position, placed under a ski boot.
- the figure 9 represents the opposite, rising position.
- the heel gripper is raised, releasing a ski boot (not shown).
- the shoe pedal 7 is in the raised position, comes into abutment under the jaws of the heel grip 11. In this so-called rest position, it is retracted. She is in a backward position.
- the heel of a ski boot can come to rest on the base of the rear retaining element or alternatively on a wedge, without ever risking hitting the foot pedal.
- Footing pedal 7 has a spring-effect shape, which allows it to automatically rise to this rest position when the heel gripper is raised. An independent spring always acts in this direction on the shoe pedal. In this position, the lever 6 is positioned to the rear and releases the shoe pedal 7.
- the stopper 8 no longer interacts with the contact means 9.
- the figure 10 represents an intermediate position, of fitting, in which the fitting pedal is lowered, in a position able to receive the support of a ski boot and to drive the heel grip towards its closed position, in a traditional manner.
- This intermediate position or fitting position is reached by the lever 6 which acts on the contact means 9 by driving them in rotation, these contact means 9 then coming press on the rear legs of the footing pedal 7, which makes it possible to tilt the footing pedal 7 downwards, into the footing position.
- this binding has a brake locking system 15, 28 since it is necessary to have an active brake, which can switch from the raised, closed, inactive position to the lowered position in the snow, open, active, during the descent phases, while it is necessary to block the brake in the raised position, closed, inactive during the ascent phases.
- the ski binding is equipped with a braking device.
- the latter can occupy two configurations.
- a first blocked configuration in which it remains in the raised position, inactive, independently of the rear support element and the position of the shoe.
- This locked configuration is necessary in the mounted position.
- the second configuration is on the contrary unlocked, which allows the braking device to occupy two positions: a braking position, lowered in the snow, and a non-braking position, raised. This second configuration is necessary in a descent phase.
- the figures 11 to 13 more precisely illustrate the different positions of the braking device in the different positions of the rear holding element of a boot.
- the rear holding element is in the lowering position.
- the braking device is in the unlocked position.
- the heel grip 11 exerts a forward thrust on the brake control 15, which induces the forward movement of the brake lock 28.
- the brake control 15 has been translated forwards and is therefore in the forward position and the brake lock 28 is also in the forward position, in which it cannot lock the brake branches 24 since this brake lock 28 does not engage the brake pedal 29.
- figure 12 represents the opposite, rising position.
- the heel grip is raised, released a ski boot (not represented).
- the brake latch may cooperate with the brake pedal, or alternatively any part of the brake, to maintain it in the non-braking position and prevent any movement of the brake.
- the figure 13 represents an intermediate position, of fitting, in which the braking device is in the same position as before.
- This brake locking solution has the advantage of obtaining an automatic locking - unlocking of the brake, without manual intervention by the user.

- 1. Ski boot rear support element.
- 2. Ski boot front support element.
- 3. Ski boot. 3' - ski boot heel.
- 4. Skiing.
- 5. Point of rotation - the lever is arranged in such a way that it can swing on an arcuate line around the point of rotation 5. This point of rotation is arranged on a transverse axis.
- 6. Lever - with multiple function. Climbing aid tilted forwards to support the heel of the ski boot, opening lever pushed backwards to open the
heel grip 11 when the latter is (closed) in the descent position. May also have housing for the contact means 9 and theanti-overload safety device 10, as well as housings for theadditional climbing aid 12. - 7. Footing pedal - assumes a first position of availability or low, in the position ready for footing, or of footing of the rear boot holding element, to foot the ski boot in the descent position. Takes a second rest position in the raised position of the
heel gripper 11 and of the rear shoe holding element. - 8. Stopper for the shoe pedal - the shoe pedal is controlled by the contact means 9 at the level of the
lever 6 so that it switches from its rest position (in other words in a retracted position upwards) towards an available or ready position to be put on in order to be able to close theheel grip 11 using theheel 3′ of theski boot 3. - 9. Means of contact at the level of the lever 6 - training function for controlling the
shoe pedal 7. - 10. Overload protection in case of improper use - if the
opening lever 6 must be swiveled backwards and thefoot pedal 7 be impeded, by an object such as for example the shoe, when tilting, the overload protection prevents damage to the functional parts, for example the contact means 9 and thestopper 8. The overload protection can for example be embodied as a two-legged spring in which one leg presses against thelever 6 and the second lever forms the contact means 9 interacting for example with theabutment parts 8 of theshoe pedal 7 in such a way that the shoe pedal tilts from itsrest position 7 into its ready position (picture 2 ), when theopening lever 6 is pivoted rearward. - 11. Heel grip - The
heel grip 11 holds the ski boot in its closed position in the lowering position of the rear boot holding element. The heel gripper includes inter alia the lug support 33 and thelug housing 34. The heel gripper is connected to thebase plate 31 via spring loaded means which controls the safety release. In the raised position of the rear shoe retaining element, theheel gripper 11 is open. - 12. Additional climbing aid - one or more additional wedges, which can for example switch to climbing mode, for the support of the heel of the ski boot, when the
lever 6 is tilted forwards (corresponding to the position of ascent aid lever 6). - 13. Guide stops are necessary at the level of the brake base when the lateral support forces exerted when skiing cannot be absorbed solely by the geometric shape of the
heel grip 11. The stops prevent the heel from shoe can deflect laterally. - 14. Stop tooth - to position the
lever 6 in different working positions, the stop tooth of thepawl 17 meshes in atoothing 35 at the level of thestop flange 32. - 15. Control for locking the ski brake. Necessary to hold the ski brake also without the ski boot in the uphill mode (out of service) by hindering the
brake calipers 24 against the spring action of the brake. In other words, in the ascent position, the brake locking control blocks thebrake branches 24 in the raised position so that the braking position is never active. If the ski binding is placed in the downhill mode, the ski brake lock opens and this must assume a ready position and can be triggered at any time in the event of a fall. In other words, in the position of putting on or lowering the rear shoe retaining element, the brake locking control no longer acts on thebrake branches 24 and the branches are free to be able to be pivoted upwards or downwards. down to pivot from the raised non-braking position to the lowered braking position.
In particular, thebrake locking control 15 is actuated by theheel grip 11 when it switches to the closed or down position when putting on the shoe, that is to say that theheel grip 11 pushes thebrake control 15 forward of the fastener. Thisbrake locking control 15 then makes it possible to move thebrake stop device 28 to release the brake, so that it can freely pass from the closed to the open positions and vice versa.
Thebrake stop device 28 is a hook-shaped lock which cooperates with thebrake pedal 16 and makes it possible to block the movements rotation of the brake for the ascent position, when theheel grip 11 no longer acts on the lockingcontrol 15. Thebrake stop device 28 is acted upon by a return spring which automatically positions it in the retracted position towards the rear to allow the locking of the brake. - 16. Ski brake pedal, which may include stops in which the
brake control 15 of a locking part meshes to maintain the ski brake in the closed position (locked function) when the rear holding element found in climb mode. When the rear holding member is switched to the downhill mode, the skibrake locking portions 28 release the ski brake in the brake ready state. - 17. Stop pawl with stop tooth which can preferably also comprise the bearing and/or housing for the
overload protection 10. - 18. Ski pole - 18' ski pole washer that can engage the climb assist
lever 6 when pulled forward in the forward direction, with therelease hook 25. - 19. Climbing aid support - one or more wedges provided at the level of the
lever 6 for the heel of the ski boot in the climbing mode when thelever 6 is tilted forward (climbing aid lever ). - 20. Ski brake base - the lower support for the ski boot in the downhill position, further includes the control elements for the
ski brake 24 and the guide stops 13. - 21. Fixing rail - is fixed to the ski and supports, for example via a connection of T-slots, the
base plate 31 which can be slid in the longitudinal direction of the ski. - 22. length adjustment net in the mounting rail.
- 23. Length adjustment screw, works together with the
length adjustment thread 22 to adjust theslidable base plate 31 in the longitudinal direction of the ski elastically with respect to the binding rail over a necessary length of boot from ski. Preferably, the length adjustment screw presses directly against a compression spring which in turn presses against the housing. - 24. Ski brake caliper - must prevent the ski from rolling down the slope uncontrollably in the event of a fall.
- 25. Release hook allowing the
lever 6 to be moved forward with a suitable 18' ski pole washer. - 26. Pole eyelet at the lever, to move the
lever 6 backwards using theski pole 18. - 27. Pole eyelet in the additional climbing aid for controlling the climbing
aid lever 12 using theski pole 18. - 28. Ski brake interlock or ski brake stopper maintains, via the
pedal 16, theski brake 24 positioned so that the brake calipers or legs cannot snag snow during the ascent. - 29. Ski brake control curves controlling a spring wire ski brake caliper automatically into its braking position.
- 30. Ascent aid stop - positions the
stirrup 6 in predetermined angular positions. - 31. Base plate - slides via a T-slot guide on the mounting
rail 21, supports the control mechanism for theheel grip 11, the ski brake base and thestop flange 32. - 32. Stop flange - may have
toothing 35 and pivot point 5 forlever 6. - 33. Foot Pedal Support - which will push the foot pedal down by means of the heel of the ski boot, the heel of the boot can press against the Foot Pedal Support when the Heel Grip is in place in the open position so that the heel grip can pivot into its closed position.
- 34. Endenture - interacts with
pawl 17. - 35. Footing pedal housing designed to directly or indirectly accommodate the
tiltable footing pedal 7 and/or designed so that the footing pedal, when it is implemented as an automatic return spring, forms the counter-bearing of the spring.

The invention therefore consists in fixing a ski boot between a front holding element of a boot and a rear holding element of a boot in a ski binding in such a way that it is held in a climbing position between two inserts of the front holding element of a shoe and can swing on an arcuate line around the front holding element and then be fixed relative to the ski in a downhill position, to fix the ski boot to the rear retention element, in which the
In other words, the rear holding element has a
In the boot position of the rear shoe holding element, the boot tongue or
In the ascent position, the
- 1. The ski binding is in the downhill position and the
heel grip 11 will need to be tilted up to reach the uphill position.
Theheel grip 11 is in the "closed" position. The heel 3' of theski boot 3 is fixedly connected to the ski. Thefoot pedal 7 is located under the ski boot heel 3 (figure 1 ). To release the ski boot heel for climbing, theheel grip 11 is controlled by rearward pressure on thelever 6. Theheel grip 11 tilts into its open position, theski boot heel 3 is free and theshoe pedal 7 automatically performs a spring movement on the basis of its own spring properties or additional spring means, in itsstandard rest position 7, raised. The shoe heel can then swing freely, without hitting the shoe pedal, which is retracted into this rest position. The lever can also serve as aclimbing aid 6 when placed forward.
Also, in this standard rest position, theshoe pedal 7 occupies its position in which it is positioned in the upper part of theheel grip 11. Thisshoe pedal 7 is in particular formed by a U-shaped metal wire , but this pedal could be wider, especially in the support area of the shoe. - 2. The ski binding is in the ascent position and the
heel grip 11 must be closed to switch to the descent position.
ski 3, au niveau de l'agrippetalon 11, par le biais du levier 6, pour positionner l'agrippetalon 11 à l'aide du talon 3' de chaussure de ski dans la position de descente (figure 1 ) de la chaussure deski 3, et, la pédale de chaussage 7 bascule vers l'extérieur hors de la zone de basculement de la chaussure deski 3 pour la position de montée de l'agrippetalon 11 , c'est-à-dire que la pédale de chaussage bascule alors vers le haut ; le levier 6 forme aussi bien l'aide à la montée 6 en prenant la forme d'une cale de chaussure de ski que le levier d'ouverture 6 pour le verrouillage de talon ;le levier 6 forme par bascule vers l'avant l'aide à la montée 6 et ouvre vers l'arrière par bascule l'agrippetalon 11 ;le levier 6 comporte des moyens decontact 9 qui basculent vers l'intérieur (c'est-à-dire vers le bas) et/ou vers l'extérieur (c'est-à-dire vers le haut) la pédale de chaussage 7 hors de sa position de repos jusque dans ou sous le talon de chaussure de ski , cette chaussure pouvant basculer sur une ligne arquée, autour de l'élément de maintien avant, lorsque le levier 6 est de préférence pivoté vers l'arrière ;- la pédale de chaussage 7 est sous la tension d'un ressort et prend, dans sa position de repos, automatiquement une position la maintenant, par basculement vers l'extérieur, hors de la ligne arquée du talon de chaussure de ski, la chaussure pouvant alors basculer autour du support de chaussure avant ;
contact 9 dans le levier 6 ;
- A
movable foot pedal 7 is tilted in the tilting zone of theski boot 3, at the level of theheel grip 11, by means of thelever 6, to position theheel grip 11 using the heel 3 'ski boot in the descent position (figure 1 ) of theski boot 3, and theshoe pedal 7 tilts outwards out of the tilting zone of theski boot 3 for the ascent position of theheel grip 11, that is to say say that the shoe pedal then tilts upwards; - the
lever 6 forms both theclimbing aid 6 taking the form of a ski boot wedge and theopening lever 6 for the heel lock; - the
lever 6 forms the climbingaid 6 by tilting forwards and opens theheel gripper 11 by tilting backwards; - the
lever 6 comprises contact means 9 which tilt inwards (that is to say downwards) and/or outwards (that is to say upwards) theshoe pedal 7 out of its rest position into or under the heel of the ski boot, this boot being able to tilt on an arcuate line, around the front holding element, when thelever 6 is preferably pivoted rearward; - the
shoe pedal 7 is under the tension of a spring and, in its rest position, automatically assumes a position maintaining it, by tilting outwards, out of the arcuate line of the shoe heel ski, the boot can then tilt around the front boot support; - the
shoe pedal 7 is made of a metal wire with a spring or of elastic material and the shape of the wire itself can intrinsically give it a spring effect. - the
shoe pedal 7 is configured in such a way that it acts, together with the contact means 9 of thelever 6 directly or indirectly touching theshoe pedal 7 which can tilt on an arcuate line around the point of rotation 5 and can thus tilting inwards in the tilting zone of theski boot 3; - the
shoe pedal 7 is equipped with one ormore stops 8 interacting with the contact means 9 in thelever 6;
Les moyens de contact 9 au niveau du levier 6 sont équipés d'une sécurité antisurcharge ;
- the
lever 6 has one ormore wedges 19 which can be formed from one or 12, 19 arranged so that they can swing inwards if necessary under the heel of the ski boot, the heel of the shoe capable of rocking in an arcuate line around the front shoe support, in the climbing position;more parts - in the “closed position” of the
heel support 11′, aski brake stop 15 is triggered by the latter, that is to say by theheel grip 11; - lateral guide stops 13 replace in the support zone on the heel the missing lateral guides of the
heel grip 11 for theski boot 3.
- The fitting position, ready to put on, where the
heel grip 11 is in the raised position, pivoted upwards and backwards or even in the open position and where thefitting pedal 7, movable with respect to theheel grip 11 is pivoted downwards so that the shoe can be pressed on it during fitting to cause the forward rotation of theheel gripper 11 and cause it to tilt towards its closed position and therefore hold the heel of the shoe. - The descent position, in which the
heel grip 11 is pivoted forwards and downwards to hold the heel of the shoe, the heel grip then being in the closed position, theshoe pedal 7 being positioned under the heel of the shoe. - The ascent position, in which the
heel grip 11 is slightly raised upwards and rearwards in an open or possibly open intermediate position, while theshoe pedal 7 is pivoted upwards and therefore is retracted to come lodge in the upper part against the upper part of theheel grip 11.
The shoe is therefore no longer held by its heel and it can be pivoted upwards around the front shoe holding element to allow the user to walk for the ascent phases. The fact of retracting the
In addition, this binding has a
As explained above, the ski binding is equipped with a braking device. The latter can occupy two configurations. A first blocked configuration, in which it remains in the raised position, inactive, independently of the rear support element and the position of the shoe. This locked configuration is necessary in the mounted position. The second configuration is on the contrary unlocked, which allows the braking device to occupy two positions: a braking position, lowered in the snow, and a non-braking position, raised. This second configuration is necessary in a descent phase.
This brake locking solution has the advantage of obtaining an automatic locking - unlocking of the brake, without manual intervention by the user.
