<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
la fig.. est une vue en coupe suivant IV-IV de la fig.3,il- lustrant la section transversale de la poutre; la fig.5 est une vue de détail en coupe montrant l'assemblage de deux des éléments utilisés pour la fabrication d'une poutre ; la fig. 6 est une vue de détail en perspective d'un tronçon de la cellule;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

CELL FOR LAND TRANSPORT VEHICLE
The present invention relates to a cell for a land transport vehicle.
We know that, in general, the land transport vehicles currently used: buses, coaches, railcars, trucks, vans, etc ..... are made up of two distinct elements; namely: a chassis, or infrastructure, equipped with all the mechanical propulsion and suspension components of the vehicle and a bodywork, or superstructure, secured to said chassis. This construction of vehicles in two distinct blocks, manufactured separately and then assembled together, in a more or less manner rigid, does not allow absolutely undeformable and homogeneous sets to be produced. in addition, said construction requires the study of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
different types of chassis and bodywork depending on the uses for which the vehicles are intended.
The invention has for object a cell making it possible to produce in a single homogeneous block and in the same workshop the chassis and the bodywork, this cell being designed in such a way that it can be established in the most variable dimensions, which makes it possible to use it for the construction of all known types of land transport vehicles.
The cell according to the invention is essentially characterized in that it comprises an axial beam receiving, on the one hand, all the mechanical propulsion, suspension and other members of the finished vehicle and, on the other hand, the cross members or fins. serving as a support for the vehicle floor and as a base for the framework intended to receive the body covering panels forming the vehicle interior.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the axial beam is produced by assembling, end to end, standard elements of appropriate profile, this beam being able to be reinforced, internally, in particular in the case of vehicles of great length, by a spar attached over the entire length of said beam.
Other advantages and characteristics of the invention will emerge from the description which will follow with reference to the appended drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a schematic view in elevation of a vehicle comprising a cell according to the invention; FIG. 2 is a partial plan view corresponding to that of FIG. 1; FIG. 3 is a partial elevational view of an a- xial beam.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig .. is a sectional view along IV-IV of Fig.3, illustrating the cross section of the beam; FIG. 5 is a detailed sectional view showing the assembly of two of the elements used for the manufacture of a beam; fig. 6 is a detailed perspective view of a section of the cell;
Figs.7 and 8 are sectional views showing two methods of mounting the vehicle body covering panels on the uprights; the fige.9,10 and 11 are perspective views showing three different embodiments of the uprights of the vehicle body; FIG. 12 is a perspective view illustrating the mounting of the rear axle of the vehicle on the axial beam; Figs.13.14 and 15 are views similar to those of Fig.4 showing three variant embodiments; FIG. 16 is a view similar to that of FIG, showing an alternative embodiment; FIG. 17 is a cross-sectional view of an alternative embodiment of the cell.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, the essential element of the cell according to the invention consists of an axial beam 2 of any variable length depending on the type of vehicle to be built, this beam serving as a direct support: a) to the components propulsion mechanisms such as engine 3; b) the suspension members such as the front 4 and rear 5 springs; c) the cross members or fins 6, hereinafter referred to as fins, receiving at their free end the uprights or primers
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
uprights 7 for fixing the covering panels of the vehicle body.
As will emerge later, the beam 2 and the fins 6 also serve as a support for the floor of the vehicle which contributes, through its assembly, to the rigidity of the finished assembly.
The axial beam 2 is produced by assembling, end to end, standard elements 8 (figs. 3 to 5) which, in the embodiment chosen by way of example, have a U-shaped section whose two branches verticals are each provided with a narrow longitudinal rim 9 directed inwards. The elements 8 which can be made of a metal: aluminum, light alloys, mild steel, etc ... or of a resistant plastic material, reinforced or not , are obtained by folding, bending, molding or otherwise. Each element 8 has at one of its ends a necked part 10 allowing it to be engaged in the contiguous element with which it is rigidly assembled by any suitable means such as welding, riveting, bolting, etc .....
In the case of very long vehicles, the axial beam 2 (fig. 6) is preferably reinforced in its longitudinal direction. This reinforcement can be achieved by means of a continuous metal spar 11 constituted, for example, by a tale folded in a V shape and forming a sort of tunnel. This spar 11, which is fixed to the beam 2 by means of two outer edges 12 and by means of a weld or rivets, is flush, at its upper part, with the level of the edges 9 of said beam. with a view to making it lighter, the spar 11 is pierced with openings 13.
The spar described contributes to the solidity of the assembly built by increasing the longitudinal resistance to bending of the beam 2 and by neutralizing the ef-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
torsion fets due to the unevenness of the road.
On the two vertical sides of the beam 2 are fixed directly, by welding, riveting, bolting, etc ..., and at appropriate intervals the fins 6 made using a sheet bent in the form of U. 'horizontal wing 14 of these fins, arranged at the top and coming flush with the flanges 9, is notched at the end opposite to that adjacent to the beam 2 to allow the installation of the uprights 7 or primers of the uprights of the framework of the vehicle body, As for the vertical wings ires fins 6, they are provided with openings 15 for relief.
The assembly formed by the beam 2, the spar 11 and the fins 6, together which in fact constitutes the infrastructure of the cell, directly receives the floor 16 which is preferably made of molded sheet, this floor permanently fixed also contributing to the rigidity and undeformability of said infrastructure.
The uprights 7 or the beginnings of uprights which are engaged between the two vertical wings of the fins 6 and are held there firmly, by welding, riveting, bolting, etc., can be produced with various metal profiles such as those shown in Figures 7 to 11 , these profiles being either U-shaped with edges (figs, 7 and 8), or double-winged T (fig.9 and lo), or even double T (fig.ll). Preferably, U-shaped profiles with ledges (figs. 7 and 8) will be used.
As indicated, the uprights 7 are intended to receive the covering panels of the vehicle body.
In the case of fig. 7, the panels 17 have edges, folded and curved 18 penetrating inside a furring 19 of trapezordal section fixed inside the upright 7 in U with wings 20. These panels are maintained
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
in place by wedging using a molding 21, preferably metal, connected to the furring by screws 22 or even by bolts crossing the U right through.
As a variant (fig. 8) the fur 19 is replaced by a trapezoidal groove 23 formed directly in the U-shaped upright with wings 24, the fixing of the covering panels 17 with angled edges 18 being, moreover, made of a identical to the previous one with a molding 21 and screws 22.
Of course, the panels 17 constitute the exterior covering of the body which can be dressed internally by means of any suitable coverings fixed on the uprights 7, either directly on these uprights (fig. 7), or on their wings 24 (fig. 8). ).
The assembly recommended for the installation of the panels 17 is not only very simple but also advantageous in the sense that it allows the rapid removal of any panel damaged for any reason and its replacement with a new panel.
In order to illustrate the way in which the axial beam can receive the suspension members of the vehicle, FIG. 12 shows an assembly of the rear axle of said vehicle, the assembly of the front axle being able to be carried out in a manner In the example chosen, the axle 25 is fixed in the known manner on the suspension springs 26, these being supported by two pins 27 and 28 passing through the beam 2, the wings of which can be reinforced, at the location of the passage of said axes, by furs 29 and 30.
The cell described, which allows the construction of completely undeformable monobloc vehicles and of very great robustness has, among others, the following main advantages:
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
a ') it is very easy to manufacture given that it can be assembled with reduced tools using standard elements produced in large series; b) it is very light while being very strong; c) it is very homogeneous due to the effective liaidonoeffective of all the elements entering into its composition; d) it allows quick and easy repairs due to the ease of removal of its cladding panels; e) it has a low cost price.
It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the embodiment explicitly described and shown and that variant embodiments are possible. Thus the elements 8 entering into the composition of the beam 2 instead of 'having in section the shape shown in fig.4 may have any one of those shown in figs.13 to 15.De même.les said elements 8 instead of being mounted by an assembly called "elegy necking" as in fig.5, can be joined by a so-called "telescopic" assembly (fig.16) or simply welded end to end.
Finally, when the beam is made with one or other of the profiles of fige. 13 to 15, the reinforcing spar can be removed and replaced by spacer plates 31 pierced with lightening openings 32 (fig. 17 ). Note that these spacer plates 31 may also exist in the construction of fig.7.le spar 11 being, then, notched for the passage of these spacers.
The cell described being applicable to the construction of all types of land transport vehicles, it is obvious that the covering panels will be drilled with all desired openings to receive the bays, doors, etc ..., whose assembly can be carried out in any known manner.
