"MARTEAU A RIVER".
EMI1.1

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"RIVER HAMMER".
EMI1.1
The present patent relates to a riveting hammer of the type '...,. commonly called Mono-strike.
In the envisaged hammer, the operating handle covering the cylinder and the sleeve partly enclosing the cylinder, slides when the handle is pressed, on the upper part of the sleeve at the same time as the integral distributor slides in the distribution box. / of this part of the handle which leads to each pressure on the handle, the departure of the piston which hits the end of the stroke the end of the rod carrying the button, possibly another tool.
Thanks to the presence of a spring interposed between this sheath and the bottom of the adjacent part of the handle, the latter as soon as the pressure of the hand is pushed back towards the bottom, which at the same time causes the displacement of the handle. distribution box and consequently an air intake bringing the striking piston upwards and thus ready for a new strike
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended drawings represent an embodiment of the riveting hammer, executed in accordance with the object of the invention.
To this end, fig.I shows an elevational section through a riveting hammer, the device being at rest or having effected a strike.
FIG. 2 represents a partial section similar to that of FIG. I showing the striking piston in the starting position to perform its working stroke, as well as the arrangement of the distribution organs.
Referring to the figures above ,! shows the hollow handle and 13 its connection through which the arrival of compressed fluid takes place. In the working axis of the hammer is arranged the distributor 2 in the form of a rod with shoulder 14 bearing internally on the handle, and that a nut 3 screwed on its end, blocks on the handle 1, the distributor 2 is partially drilled axially and has at its upper part lateral channels 15 communicating through an annular chamber 16 of the handle 1 , with a duct 17 opening into the operating handle, on the other hand with the central duct 18.
In the lower part of the distributor 2 are formed lateral orifices 19 which can open alternately into the annular chambers 20 and 21 of the distribution box 7
The distribution box 7 is attached to the cylinder 6 by a setting ring 8 and thus forms one unit with the latter, \ the cylinder 61 likewise with the sleeve 9 to which it is attached at 22 The distribution box 7 is provided with channels 23 originating from chamber 20 and opening into an annular chamber 24 in communication via channels 25 with annular chamber 26 arranged between sleeve 9 and cylinder ±.
This chamber 26 may itself be in communication through the lateral orifices 27 of the sleeve 9 with another annular chamber.
28 formed in the inner periphery of the handle 1 and in constant communication with the outside through the lateral orifices 29
The distribution box 7 is also provided with channels 30
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
opening into the cylinder at the start of the outer periphery of the appendage 38 forming the end of the distribution box 7 and intended to enter the corresponding space of the hollow piston 10 so as to form a compression chamber during the ascent of the piston 10 as will be explained in the following,
In the lower part of the cylinder 6 are the lateral openings 35 communicating with the annular chamber 26, formed between the sleeve 9 and the cylinder 6.
The tool struck by the piston 10 is represented by 12 and its sleeve. retainer screwed onto cylinder 6, by 11.
A spring 4; is placed between the free end of the cylinder 6 and its distribution box 7 forming part of the sleeve 9 and the bottom of the handle 1 * A small channel 36 in communication with the atmosphere, allows the chamber containing the spring 4 to be placed protected from pressures or depressions that could affect the proper functioning of the distribution.
It works as follows:
In the drawing shown in fig.I, the apparatus is at rest and the piston 10 has completed its working stroke. If the fluid is under pressure in the handle, it enters through the channel 17 into the chamber 16 and through the openings 15 in the central duct 18 of the distributor 2, from the, through the side orifices 19, the chamber 20 , the channel 23, the chamber 24, the conduit 25, in the chamber 26 and through the lateral orifices 35 of the cylinder penetrates under the underside of the piston 10 which it rolls upwards.
At this time, the chamber of the cylinder 6 above the piston 10 is in communication with the atmosphere through the passages 32 of the cylinder 6 opening into the annular chamber 28 of the handle in communication with the atmosphere through the openings. 29 and the piston 10 is not hampered in its return stroke.
If at this moment a force is exerted on the handle 1, the latter slides on the sleeve 9. compressing the spring 4 and the whole is presented as in fig.2 or the piston 10 is on the point of effect. in fact by pressing on the handles the lateral orifices 19 of the distributor have come to put

the pressurized fluid communicating with the annulus chamber 21 of the distribution box 7 and thence through the conduits 30 with the bottom of the cylinder and thus in / contact with the face of the piston 10 which is immediately launched downwards and strikes the end of the tool 12, it will be noted that at this moment, to avoid the counterpressure, the chamber 26 see fig. 2 is in communication with the outside by 27,28.
The hit given,
by ceasing all pressure on the handle 1 everything is again as shown in fig.I and the fluid which acted on the piston was able to escape from the cylinder 6 'through 32,28 ,, 29.
It will be noted that the movement of the handle 1 relative to the sleeve 9 or vice versa is limited by a stop constituted by a screw 5 engaged in the sleeve and whose end 33 penetrates into a groove 34 of the cylinder 6 thus limiting the stroke to the length of this groove minus the value of the diameter of the end of the screw 33.
