<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
't'ion adopté, on obtient un ensemble dont le fonctionnement est suffisamment évident pour qu'il soit inutile d'insister à son sujet et qui présente, par rapport aux systèmes du genre en question déjà existants, de nornbreus avantages, notamment celui de réduire l'encombrement au minimum.

"Improvements made to vision change systems
EMI1.1
of continuous type t1.
The invention relates to speed change systems of the continuous or progressive type, more especially with linkages, such as those described in Belgian patent no.
412,795, filed December 14, 1935, which systems generally comprise, in combination with at least one motor shaft, a certain number of kinematic devices or crankshaft gear each of which is capable of transmitting. be the movement of said motor shaft, during a portion of a revolution of the latter and with a gradually variable transmission ratio, said trains being suitably offset with respect to one another so that one can, side by side reception, reconstitute with the help of the various successive training phases in a suitable order, a substantially continuous movement.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
She ; the aim, above all, is to make these systems such that they lead to a smaller footprint than hitherto.
It consists, mainly, in systems of the kind in question - instead of associating the various kinematic devices or linkage trains with as many crank pins arranged in series, for example on a motor crankshaft - to. associating with the same pin at least two bundling trains connected in such a way, to the receiving system, that the drive phases corresponding to these two trains follow one another in a suitable order, as in the usual solution.
It includes, apart from this main provision, certain other provisions which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below, in particular, a second consisting in the systems of gerre in question, to be attacked respectively, by at least two crankshafts, of the receiving shafts whose :: louve 'ents are conjugated with each other, the whole being preferably produced according to the above-mentioned arrangement.
It relates more particularly to certain modes of application, as well as certain embodiments, of said provisions; and it targets, more particularly still and this as new industrial products, the systems of the kind in question comprising the application of these same provisions, the special elements specific to their establishment, as well as the sets, fixed or mobile, comprising of sem - blable systems.
And it can, in any event, be clearly understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawings, which supplement and drawings are, of course, given above all by way of indication.
Figs. 1 and 2 show, respectively in eleva-; tion (projected perpendicular to the motor axes and receiving
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
supposed to be parallel), and in section according to II-II fig. 1, the assembly of a driving shaft and of a system for transmitting the movement of this shaft, with a progressively variable ratio, said assembly being established, 'as in the invention.
Figs. 3 and 4 show, in elevation, a set of two other embodiments of the same type established in accordance with the invention.
According to the invention, and more especially those of its modes of application, as well as those of the embodiments of its various parts, to which it appears that preference should be given, proposing , for example to establish a speed change system for transmitting the movement of a drive shaft 1, to a drive shaft 2, with a progressively variable ratio, 'this is done as follows or in a manner similar.
There are already systems of this kind, in particular with several crankshaft trains; in particular, it has been described in the Belgian patent cited above, a system comprising is essentially a certain number of connecting rod trains each constituted, as shown schematically in the accompanying drawings, by a driving rod 3 articulated on a crank pin of the motor shaft, this connecting rod coming into contact at 4 of a coupling crank 5 which pivots around a movable pivot 6, on the position of which depends the transmission ratio, which the coupling crank 5 takes its turn to drive, by means of a receiving link 7, a crank 8 capable of attacking, by a freewheel drive device 9, 10, the receiving shaft.
Each train thus formed is capable of transmitting the sanding movement of a fraction of a turn of the motor shaft, for example at least 900, so that, as can be seen, a continuous movement can be obtained on the receiving side, if a suitable number of trains is adopted and if they are offset in relation to each other (four trains offset by
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in this case).
Up to now, such an assembly has been carried out by using, on the one hand, an engine crankshaft comprising as many crankpins as there are crankshafts, these crankpins being therefore mounted one after the other and offset by. the appropriate angle, and, on the other hand, a receiving shaft driven by said trains using as many free wheels.
This solution can, in certain applications, lead to an exaggerated size, because the axial length of the mechanism - that is to say along the motor shaft - is equal to four times the length. axial of a crankshaft train.
It is one of the aims of the present invention to make it possible to reduce the axial bulk.
For this purpose and according to the main arrangement of said invention, at least two crankshaft gears are associated with the same crankpin of the motor shaft 1, which are combined with a receiving system such as, of course , the correct transmission of the movements of said trains can be ensured.
In order to achieve these conditions - and according to another provision of the invention capable, where appropriate, of being used in isolation - it will suffice to cause the aforementioned two linkage trains (or more) respectively to coact with Corresponding receiving shafts such as 21, 2, shafts whose movements are combined by any suitable means, gears, chains, as shown in 15 fig. 2, coupling rods, etc.)
Preferably, the assembly would be such that the various receiving shafts are driven at the same speed, the crankshaft gears therefore being identical and the movements of their pivots 6 of course being controlled accordingly.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In the case where one is satisfied (in the hypothesis of four crankshaft trains), to attack two trains by the same crankpin (fig. 1 and 2), we can already see that the axial bulk (fig. . 2) is reduced by half, the crankshaft comprising only two crankpins.
Maison could further reduce it by attacking the four trains with the same crankpin, as shown in fig.
4; the space requirement is then only the axial length of a train, and the drive shaft only comprises said crankpin.
Of course, the respective arrangements of the various receiving shafts can be modified, provided that the kinematic and mechanical effects are respected; thus, assuming that two trains are hitched to the same crank, 'we can arrange them, for example, either at 180 (fig. 1 and 2), or at 90 (fig. 3) .
It would also be possible, again starting from the arrangement of FIGS. 1 and 2, with four crankshafts combined with two receiving shafts at 180, or that of the pin 3, with four similar trains combined with two receiving shafts at
90, multiply the assembly so as to provide, for example, if eight crankshaft gears are used, four receiver shafts at the four cardinal points, which four shafts are combined, either all together or two by two, the assembly being able, if desired, to be coupled with only two crank pins on the drive shaft so that, here again, the axial size of the assembly can be reduced to twice the size of a train crankshaft.
Such a set, if one conjugates only two by two the receiving trees, is equivalent to two complete receiving groups for which it is possible, optionally and according to an arrangement, described in an application filed concurrently. and under the same names, independently order reports; transmission.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
As regards, in each case, the means for controlling the movements of the pivots ô of the linkages belonging to the same receiving group - movements which are for example made circular, the pivots being carried by articulated levers 13. around axes 121 122 themselves suitable - '.ent decalas - they can be produced using mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical or other controls, and of course it is arranged so that the speeds transmitted to the Conjugate receptor trees remain constant or of the same ratio.
Taking for example the case of FIGS. 1 and 2, or 3, it will suffice that the levers 13 all receive the same movement, being for example carried by the shafts 121, 122 between them by kinematic links illustrated in the drawing- in 16, 17.
Finally, concerning the drive device, unilateral, indicated with some details in fig. 1, where they are supposed to be produced according to the provisions already low ent by the applicants and to be used preferably .ce, they consist essentially, each, of two rolling surfaces 9, 10, capable of rolling the one on the other in one direction or the other, depending on the direction of the reciprocating movement of the 8 way,
one of these surfaces 10 being capable of driving the corresponding receiving shaft thanks to the insertion of obstacles or wedges 14 opposing the rolling of these surfaces, for one of the two rolling directions: slow.
According to the embodiment shown, each crank 8 coacts with two surfaces 10 respectively poitées by coulonnes 11 wedged on the receiving shaft; as can be seen in fig. 2, two surfaces 10 coacting with two neighboring links of the same t.c'8,:; ¯n receiver can.be provided on the same ring 11.
As a result, whatever the mode of realization
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
'ion adopted, we obtain a set whose operation is sufficiently obvious for it to be unnecessary to dwell on it and which presents, compared to the systems of the kind in question already existing, many advantages, in particular that of reduce clutter to a minimum.
As goes without saying, and as it follows moreover already from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to those of its modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts, having been more specially considered; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants.
