BREVET D' INTENTION Madame Elise S C H U L Z née Lohmann
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
La constitution indiquée permet d'apporter plus de soin à la pièce de fermeture du tube et cela tant en ce qui concerne la construction qu'également en ce qui concerne l'acpect de ces pièces. La fermeture peut être fabriquée de façon absolument étanche à l'air et la tête à poser peut être fixée d'une façon quelconque sur le corps du tube. Pour la pièce de fermeture et la tête, on peut utiliser une matière plus précieuse, par exemple également de l'argent et les pièces peuvent être enjolivées par ciselage, entaillage ou autre façonnage;
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

PATENT OF INTENT Madame Elise S C H U L Z née Lohmann
Tube, in particular coiled tube or similar container and its manufacturing process.
The present invention relates to the conformation and the particular constitution of the head and the body of tubes or similar containers.
Conventional tubes found on the market have a substantially circular or oval cross section and a cylindrical shape, since the production of other cross sections and shapes using metal as the tube material is almost impossible. It is only the manufacture of tubes by winding strips of material that gives the possibility of producing tubes with polygonal sections; it is also this means which makes it possible to give the tubes a pyramidal or conical shape.
In accordance with the present invention, the sharp or rounded edges of tubes with a polygonal section are reinforced by grooving or bending (towards the inside or the outside), by thickening of material, for example by gluing strips or by bending in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
strip of material, by internal fittings of metal wire or flexible bars, by application of hardening material, impregnation of this material, etc., so that when pressure is exerted on the tube, as for example during the expulsion of the contents, no deformations occur which could give the tube an unsightly shape.
The section of the tube can also be irregularly shaped; it may for example have only one plane of symmetry, that is to say be composed of two dissimilar parts, which creates a front and a back marked by the tube. The surface forming the back is in this case advantageously arranged perpendicular to the plane of symmetry, so that the tube normally rests on this surface. You can place a more sophisticated packaging on the front, while the back simply carries the instructions for use.
The formation of longitudinal folds, either during winding or after termination of the envelope, can advantageously also come into question for the end edges of the winding strip. These end edges must hold particularly well, and therefore be well glued, so that they do not rise during the expulsion of the tube or during its winding. By arranging a fold, groove or similar longitudinal member in the casing at the end edge and pushing the end edge into this fold, groove, etc., the edge of the shell can be made to disappear. end, so that the body of the tube looks like it is completely closed.
The length of the winding strip is advantageously calculated so that its beginning forming the inner edge and its end forming the outer edge are superimposed after winding, so that by drawing in or stamping a fold or a groove in this place both edges are grasped and clamped. In this way, it is possible to provide the winding mandrel
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
a groove and a protrusion to be able to clamp the beginning of the winding strip in the mandrel and then wind it with a suitable pull.
The fold or groove formed is advantageously lowered by pressure, if necessary after preliminary folding, To obtain a firm hold also inside the sleeve, the inner edge of the winding strip can be thickened and stiffened in an appropriate manner, either with its own material, or by adding or surrounding a strip of metal, rubber, etc. When rubber is used, the latter can be caused to melt by thermal action. This method of fixing the inner marginal edge also allows winding without gluing; in this case, it is also possible to use previously impregnated paper, so that the subsequent impregnation is removed. In polygonal tube bodies, the outer marginal edge and rationally also the inner marginal edge are placed in one of the ridge grooves.
Thanks to the manufacture of the tubes by winding and because of the greater wall thickness obtained as a result, it is also possible to make stampings, impressions, scratches, grooves, embossing, etc. in the casing. more pronounced. This treatment of the tube body has the advantage that the tube can be held more easily in the hand. We can stick between the stampings and Impressions labels or decorations. The unevenness formed on the back as a result of stampings, impressions, grooves, etc. are removed either by sticking something behind them or by filling them with a suitable material. A strip of material can also be glued behind the stamped, printed, embossed, etc. material, thereby forming a smooth interior surface.
This is also achieved by inserting or gluing a sleeve into the body of the tube. If the stampings, printing, etc. are made on a completely smooth substrate,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a completely smooth back is also obtained when a strip of thick, soft material is used, optionally in several layers.
Pyramidal and conical tubes have the advantage of being much easier to store and ship; they save space, as well as packaging and transport costs, because, when threaded into each other, they take up very little space. The closure piece must also be able to be arranged in the interior of the immediately following tube body. The body of tubes of this kind rationally has grooves or other recesses which prevent the bodies of the tubes from being damaged when they are nested one inside the other for transport.
The use of material especially suitable for the manufacture of coiled tubes or the like is of essential importance. It has been found that paper alone or in combination with thin laminated sheets of aluminum, tin or other material, is not sufficient to make a tube body reliably resistant to various stresses of a mechanical or other nature.
Likewise, the impregnation does not in all cases effect sufficient sealing. Better and safer results are obtained in impregnation when using as much as possible unsized paper.
The material used for the manufacture of the tubes must above all be suitable for the filling material of each case and be impermeable to this material. It has been found that a thin film of rubber gives excellent results as a material of this kind, for example for filling pipes containing water, because of its impermeability and in particular its elasticity.
However, these materials cannot be used on their own, but only in conjunction with paper, metal foil, etc. They then fulfill a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
dual role: on the one hand, they isolate the contents of the tube and protect the wall of the tube by preventing its perforation or penetration; on the other hand, they protect the metal foil, in particular the very hard and brittle aluminum foil frequently used. When the tube is pressed, compressed and rolled up, this aluminum foil becomes watertight, given that it is a hard material, easily punctured; the material added must render these properties detrimental for the present purposes inoperative by its strength, viscosity, etc.
Instead of the aforementioned thin rubber film, another material can also be used, optionally applied or spread, such as, for example, a rubber solution which can be applied or spread internally when winding the casing. For many fillers, it is advisable to coat the inside of the tube with a strong foil of metal or the like; this liner can be rolled up with the body or inserted as a finished sleeve, which rationally has the shape of the tube.
In order to protect the wall as much as possible from damage during shaping of the shoulders and neck of the tube, it has been found rational to use the pressure process instead of pressing in the manufacture of the casing. In the pressure process, the casing rotates on a mandrel, against which the pressure instrument is placed, while in the usual pressing process the casing threaded onto the mandrel remains at rest and the shaping takes place by pressure. pressing.
Before the beginning of the pressing process, the casing of the tube body is rationally suitably shaped with several folds to obtain in the subsequent pressing operation a uniform conformation of the shoulder and the neck. After pressing, it It is still advisable to carry out a smoothing by means of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
smooth punch. It is possible, and this has the greatest advantage for the rational manufacture of the tubes, to carry out the pressing immediately on the casing winding machine, if necessary in such a way that work is carried out on both sides of the envelope which is then cut.
The pressure may be effected by means of a blade, roller, bar, etc., with a view to removing material from the body of the tube, by means of a belt or other means. appropriate. The roll, bar, etc. used can be profiled according to the working process. This working process eliminates the need for expensive presses and complicated tools, different for each tube size and allows the manufacture of each desired tube size up to the maximum dimensions, without great expense and with the aid of extremely simple tools.
Particular attention must be paid in the manufacture of the tubes to the constitution of the shoulder and the neck of the tube, consequently to its most important and most stressed parts. For the manufacture of these parts, a head or a cover sheet is advantageously used, which is placed on the part of the tube in which its body narrows to form the neck, therefore on the shoulder, so that the The appearance is also improved, as the unsightly and irregular folds formed by the shrinkage are covered.
The edge of the head or of the cover sheet may rest on the shoulder or be extended beyond the edge of this shoulder above the connecting part of the body of the tube. In each case, it is advisable to lower it into the material of the tube, which in these places has grooves, narrows or the like, so that it does not protrude or protrude only slightly above the tube. the surface of the tube body and its loosening or damage is pocketed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
To obtain greater stability of this groove or of the protruding parts, it is advisable to insert a ring or other reinforcement. The upper edge of the body of the tube or of the part of the head threaded over the edge of the shoulder or a ring placed in this location is advantageously edged or stamped in relief, or shaped in a similar manner, which gives the edge a hold. support when opening and closing.
To narrow the body of the tube towards the neck portion, folds are formed in the material of the tube and these folds are placed obliquely to the radial direction.
In order to level the uneven shoulder as a result of the formation of the folds, a material filling these grooves, for example plaster, glue, starch or the like, is inserted into the grooves between the folds.
The tubes can be provided with a permanent head or a permanent closure piece, into which the inner liner tube containing the filler is interchangeably inserted and with which it is separably connected. The inner lining tube, according to the invention, extends into the neck part of the rigid tube head, where appropriate also covering its body, and is rationally closed in this part.
The construction indicated allows more care to be taken in the tube closure part, both as regards the construction and also as regards the appearance of these parts. The closure can be made absolutely airtight and the head can be fixed in any way to the body of the tube. For the closure part and the head, a more valuable material can be used, for example also silver and the parts can be embellished by chiselling, notching or other shaping;
The interior trim tube is connected to the head piece or closure piece and / or the casing
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
externally, for example by means of a threaded connection.
The material of the thread can be for example pressed into the material of the tube, but it is also possible to provide quite inexpensive screw devices, for example made of aluminum sheet, which are rationally screwed into a device of your corresponding provided on the closing piece.
The inner lining tube is delivered completely closed with the casing, so that drying is not possible. Before the inner lining tube is put into service, it is opened and made suitable for use, for example by puncturing the outlet end.
Several embodiments of the object of the invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

In the hexagonal tube according to fig. l, the edges are reinforced by the arrangement of external grooves
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
1 and in the tube of FIG. 2 by internal grooves 2.
Fig. 3 shows a tube with poygonal section comprising only one plane of symmetry S, the surface 3 intersecting the plane of symmetry being placed perpendicular to this plane and forming the back of the tube, on which this tube is usually placed and which carries for example the instructions for use of the contents of the tube. Effective advertising can be placed on the front surfaces 4.
Fig 4 represents a pyramidal tube, on the thinnest end 5 of which a stepped neck 6 is established by a slight pressure.
The tube according to FIG. 5 has a head 9 placed on its body 8, which produces a reinforcement in this part and hides the unsightly folds 7. The edge of the head 9 ends in the left part of the figure still on the shoulder 10 and is arranged pressed into the body of the tube, this body forming a projecting groove 11, which is placed in the same plane as the edge of the head. A reinforcing ring can be placed in this groove. In the right part of the figure, the edge 12 of the head 9 is lowered over the edge between the shoulder and the body of the tube a little above the latter and is at the same time pushed into the body of the tube in such a measure that the edge of the head and the body of the tube form a single surface.
The brim 12 is rationally rounded, so that the hand has a good grip when opening and closing the closure cap.
The permanent tube according to the first embodiment of FIG. 7 has a permanent closure piece 11 made of stronger and more valuable material, which has an external and internal thread on the eol piece; the external thread 12 is used to screw on the closing cap, then the internal thread or internal thread 13 is used to fix the internal lining tube 14 introduced
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
from below in the direction of the arrow and which bears in the neck part 15 on the outside a threaded ring 16 of aluminum.
The second embodiment of the permanent tube according to FIG. 8 is formed by the head piece 15 'and the inserted inner lining tube 16, which is fixedly held by means of the threaded ring 17 placed on it in the thread 18 attached thereto of the head piece 15'.
The interior trim tube 16 'is tightly connected to the opening 19 and is ready for use after puncturing at this point.
In the permanent tube according to fig. 9, it is connected by screwing to the permanent head 11, in the neck part of which the inner lining tube 14 is fixed, an outer casing 21. This outer casing consists of three parts sliding telescopically one inside the other, so that it can be adapted in each case to the length of the inner lining tube and that it protects the latter against damage.
