<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Device for mounting rotary distributors for internal combustion and combustion engines.
It is known, in valveless engines, to use a rotary distributor and to maintain this distributor to the cylinder block.
The device of the invention proceeds differently in that the distributor is mounted integrally with the crankcase to hold the cylinder block.
The essential characteristic of the invention lies in the fact that the cylinder block is movable between the crankcase and the distributor to ensure, at all times, an absolute seal between the two parts. This seal is obtained by an elastic system. which tends to apply the cylinder block normally against the distributor, this vertical thrust action being increased by gas pressure at compression and explosion times during operation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
assembly resides in the fact that the constant adhesion between the cylinder block and the distributor prevents any leakage between these two parts and automatically corrects any wear that may occur.
The device is further characterized because the dispenser comprises a central water cooling system and the central cavity is used to provide a play adjustment system preventing any water leakage during its circulation.
The invention is also characterized by the fact that the rotary distributor is covered with a casing forming a silencer, with arrangement making it possible to recover the carbide gases located in the apertures of the distributor, when these apertures have effected the admission. .
Finally, the rotary distributor is completed by a volumetric lubrication system.
FIG. 1 shows a vertical section of an internal combustion engine to which the distribution assembly according to the invention is applied.
Fig 2 is a cross section of Fig 1.
According to the invention, 1 is the crankcase, 2 the rotary distributor, 3 the crankshaft and 4 the cylinder block. The distributor 2 rotates in bearings 5 fixed in the housing 1 also supporting the bearings 6 of the crankshaft. The cylinder block 4 is not fixed to the crankcase. It is held laterally to the lower part by a stopper 7 which leaves it free to move in the vertical direction, upwards and downwards.
A spring 8, acting by means of the lever 9, tends to apply the cylinder block, on the one hand against the stop 7, and, on the other hand, against the distributor 2, thus automatically taking up the play and wear between these two parts and ensuring the sealing of the explosion chamber.
The pressure of the block 4 on the distributor is increased, at the compression and explosion times, by the pressure of the gases exerted on the bottom of the explosion chamber, which eliminates any leakage between these two parts.
The distributor is cooled by the water used
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to cool the cylinder block. The circulation can be forced in both by a single pump.
A fixed part 10 receives the water through the tube 11. It comprises a bearing surface 12 pushed by a spring 13 housed between sliding tubes 14 and 15, and which is applied against the corresponding bearing surface of a part. 16 integral with the distributor. The seal is thus maintained until complete wear of the contact parts.
At the other end of the distrubutor, for the water supply, the same assembly is provided. These two assemblies include, in addition, a lubricator 17. On this same side is arranged the control of the distributor by pinions and chain. In order to avoid the sucking noise caused by the lights of the distributor when they come into communication with the free air, fig 2, a device forming a silencer is applied. It consists of a housing 18 in one or two parts provided with grooves 19 which break up the air movement.
On the other hand, as the lights of the distributor at this time contain carburized gases which would be lost either in the open air or in the exhaust, they are recovered by the connected pipes 20 and 21,. to the intake pipe, the other with the air inlet of the carburetor.
The number of cylinders of the engine can be varied but, when the length of the block 4 allows it, its suspension by a single lever 9 placed in the center will give the best result.
By also placing a single stop in front of the fulcrum of the lever, the block 4 straightens automatically with the distributor 2.
On the other hand, by arranging the line of the support points of the lever 9, at an angle of approximately 45, with respect to the displacement axis of the block 4, this lever will act in two directions: support point on the housing 22 and fulcrum on the cylinder block 23 The spring 8 operating a pressure tends to make the cylinder go up towards the distributor and at the same time, to apply it against the stop 7 which can be adjustable.
