Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Fig.4 en est la coupe transversale

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Decorative lighting device
This invention relates to a novel lighting device, particularly suitable for light decoration.

   The realization of this invention is based on the principle of the etched glass plate which, illuminated by the edge through the thickness of the glass, produces luminous engravings, and the novelty lies in the fact that these glass plates etched or not are cut in silhouette, the outline of which reflects the light received by the glass and thus appears luminous.

   By this new means it is possible to produce light effects which substantially resemble those of luminescent tubes. It therefore lends itself to multiple applications both in the field of advertising and in the decoration of buildings or signage etc.

   The device which is the subject of the present invention may consist, on the one hand, of a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 glass, engraved or not, of which the edge or only a part forms the outline of a figure or decorative line, comprising on this outline a frosted chamfer, on the other hand, in a source of light illuminating the glass plate. through the thickness of the glass, arranged in a frame or support, so that no light shines outside.

   The light source can be either an electric bulb or a luminescent tube, etc.

   The appended schematic drawing represents three embodiments of the invention, given by way of example only enunciative and not limiting.

   Fig. 1 is a section through the first form of e- execution of the apparatus, seen from the front,
Fig. 2 is the cross section Fig. 3 is a front view of the second embodiment
Fig. 4 is the cross section
Fig.5 is a front view of the third embodiment of which Fig.6 is the cross section
The same signs in the six figures represent the same organs.

   In fig.l and 2 a glass plate A, having the outline of a head as an outline, is placed in the slot. of the support B, which contains a ramp of electric bulbs C. The outline of the glass plate forming the silhouette, has a frosted chamfer D.

   On the same principle, the following modifications can be provided:

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The glass plate, instead of being lit from the base, could be lit from the middle, as in fig. 3 and 4. For this purpose, the glass plate is pierced with a central hole E in which is housed an electric bulb. Ç distributing the light throughout the plate, so that it produces a luminous edge all around.

   Instead of a single glass plate, one could provide several plates, placed one behind the other, each having a different contour as, for example, in fig. 5 and 6. These plates could then each be tinted with another color, so as to produce luminous effects of a varied color.

   In the same vein and in order to produce light effects giving the impression of being animated, the different plates may also, instead of being illuminated by a common light source, receive separate lighting, plate \ 'by plate. This arrangement will allow them to be subjected, one by one, to periodical lighting and offset with respect to their contour and corresponding to the successive phases of the movement to be produced.

   It is obvious that the principle set out above could find multiple applications apart from those set out above, without departing from the scope of the invention. So, for example, the plate shown in Figs. 3 and 4 could be rotatably mounted.
