<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Display and signaling panel
The present invention relates to a display and signaling panel, in particular an advertising display panel or road sign, formed by a transparent plate illuminated by the edge from a distributed light source.
There is already known such a display panel and in particular a panel provided with an independent electrical supply like that described in the document FR 91 06 459. This display panel is very advantageous for receiving information or posters on its rear face of the transparent plate. In this case, the information is very bright and perfectly legible. On the other hand, all the information applied to the front face of the transparent plate is not very legible except by contrast (for example letters or numbers). On the other hand a drawing will be only very little visible.
However, in many cases, and for various reasons, the display cannot be done on the back of the transparent plate and either be on its front face. The present invention aims to create a display panel of the type defined above, making it possible to receive posters or information on its front face, while having excellent lighting characteristics for these posters and information.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To this end, the invention relates to a display or signaling panel corresponding to the type defined above, characterized in that the edge of the plate constituting the display surface opposite to that provided with the light source has a surface reflective not perpendicular to the display surface.
The display panel according to the invention is of a particularly simple embodiment. It may be a display and signaling panel whose light source is supplied either from the electrical network, or which comprises an independent power source.
Depending on the shape of the section of the reflecting surface constituting the edge of the panel opposite the light source, a regular distribution of the light or a distribution modulated according to the effects will be obtained.
EMI2.1
v to achieve.
According to other advantageous characteristics of the invention: - the reflecting surface is an inclined plane surface. - the inclined surface goes practically from one edge of the panel to the other.
- the reflecting surface is a curved surface.
It is also possible according to the principle mentioned above to produce a double-sided display and signaling panel constituted by two transparent plates whose edge opposite each time to the distributed light source, is a reflecting surface. In general, this reflecting surface is a skewed surface going from one edge of the panel to the opposite edge.
According to the information displayed, for aesthetic or integration reasons in a location, the display panel can have a rectangular, square, polygonal shape, with a light source distributed on at least two sides or in a mixed manner on fractions next to.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The present invention will be described below in more detail with the aid of the appended drawings in which: - Figures 1,2, 3 are schematic sectional views of three examples of display and signaling panels according to the invention, - Figure 4 is a more detailed view of an example of a display panel showing the principle of the example of Figure 1 with an independent power supply.
According to the very schematic section of FIG. 1, the invention relates to a display and signaling panel such as an advertising display panel, a road sign or an urban information panel, of which only the transparent plate 1 has been represented. This transparent plate 1 carries on its front face the surface 2 to be displayed. This is for example a poster, a street map, etc ...
In the lower part according to the drawing, is the light source 3 which illuminates the edge 11 of the plate.
By definition, this slice is a surface perpendicular to the large faces of the plate (and thus of the panel), in particular the face which receives the poster or the information 2. The other slice 12, opposite the slice 11, has in section the shape of a curve whose tangent at no point is perpendicular to the large face 12 of the transparent plate. In the case shown it is a concave curve which returns the rays emitted by the light source according to the arrows indicated, towards the display surface 2. According to the shape of the curve of the surface 12 there will be a regular distribution or irregular reflected rays, depending on the lighting effects to be obtained.
Figure 2 shows another embodiment of the invention. In this figure as in the figure
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
3 and the following figures, the same references have been used as in FIG. 1 to designate the same elements.
In the second exemplary embodiment, the slice 121 opposite the slice 11 of the plate 1 is a flat, inclined surface, which returns the rays as shown by the lines and the arrows, through the display surface 2 which is, as before, the front face of the transparent plate 1.
The example of FIG. 3 corresponds to an extreme case of that of FIG. 2 with head-to-tail placement of two plates 1, like those of FIG. 2.
The edge of the panel 1, opposite the edge 11 through which the distributed light source 3 injects the light into the plate 1, extends from the upper edge of the plate 1 to its lower edge so that the plate 1 has in section a triangular shape. This reflecting surface 122 returns the incident light rays supplied by the light source 3, according to the arrows indicated, through the display surface 2.
It is the same for the other plate placed head to tail. This other plate 1 also comprises a reflecting surface 22 ′ constituting in fact the edge of the plate opposite to the edge 11 ′ through which the light emitted by the distributed light source 3 ′ penetrates. The light rays are sent through the display surface 2 'as indicated. This arrangement of Figure 3 allows for a very thin double-sided display panel.
In the various drawings of FIGS. 1 to 3, according to a usual convention, the panels are cut vertically and the light source 3 is placed at the level of the lower edge of the plate which is supposed to be rectangular or square. However, it is also possible to illuminate the plate by one of its vertical sections without this in any way modifying the characteristics of the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
FIG. 3 shows the application of the general plate of FIG. 1 to the production of a display and / or signaling panel with independent electrical supply. This display panel 100, the display surface 102 of which is located on the front face of the transparent plate 101, is illuminated by a light source 6 placed at the base of the plate against its edge 111. This light source is by example a photodiodes ramp. This light source 6 is supplied from a battery 7 by means of a regulator 8 itself connected to a solar panel 9. The regulating circuit 11 is also connected to a socket 9a allowing an emergency supply to from the alternative network.
Figures 5,6 and 7 show three embodiments of independent panels like that of Figure 4 but double-sided; the upper edge of the panel plates then corresponds respectively to the embodiment of FIGS. 1, 2 and 3. Thus, the upper edge of the double panel of FIG. 5 has an upper, rounded edge 131. The double display panel of FIG. 6 has two upper edges 141 at an angle and the display panel of FIG. 7 two very oblique edges 151, 151, as in FIG. 3.
The various elements of the power supply, already described, are not detailed.
The display panel according to FIGS. 4 to 7, is generally a panel with independent power supply which must have its autonomy and be able to be placed at any location and the entire electrical installation is generally placed in a base 106,107 , 108.109 forming a support.
