<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
1 / des composés aminés sulfonés du type R1-CO-NH- R2S03H, ou les sels alcalins ou alcalino-terreux de ces com- posés, R1 étant un résidu hydrocarburé aliphatique contenant 10 à 20 atomes de carbone, et R2 étant un résidu hydrocarbure aliphatique contenant 1 à 5 atomes de carbone ;
2 / des esters sulfonés du type R1-COO-R3SO3H, ou les sels alcalins ou alcalino-terreux de ces esters, R1 étant un résidu hydrocarburé aliphatique contenant 10 à 20 atomes de carbone, et R3 étant un résidu hydrocarbure aliphatique con- tenant 1 à 10 atomes de carbone ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
poids.

"Compositions capable of being used for washing textile materials or for washing of another kind"
The present invention relates to compositions which can be used as shampoos or lotions for the hair, for washing fibrous materials or articles of clothing made of wool, silk, cotton, canvas, artificial silk, etc ..., or for washing materials such as: glass, porcelain, metal, etc ...
It is known to use a so-called sulphonated alcohol or an alkaline salt of this alcohol, and a colloidal clay known under the name of bentonite, that is to say a clay before a micaceous appearance with faoile cleavage and a felted texture, this clay giving thixotropic pastes with water. The colloidal clays so known as bentonite (also including "wilkinite") are special clays which occur naturally in various parts of the earth.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
world, for example in Canada and the United States.
These clays should not be confused with clays such as fuller's earth, porcelain or kaolin earth, or with materials such as finely pulverized pumice, kieselguhr, terracotta, etc ...; these substances in fact do not at all have the same functions as bentonite and are in no way suitable for the objects of the invention. It will be recognized that the word "bentonite", as regards the present invention, includes both synthetic materials and those found in nature.
Instead, or in addition to sulphonated fatty alcohols, the Applicant has found that the following sulphonated products can be used with more success:
1 / sulfonated amino compounds of the type R1-CO-NH- R2S03H, or the alkali or alkaline-earth salts of these compounds, R1 being an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue containing 10 to 20 carbon atoms, and R2 being a hydrocarbon residue aliphatic containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms;
2 / sulfonated esters of the R1-COO-R3SO3H type, or the alkali or alkaline-earth salts of these esters, R1 being an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue containing 10 to 20 carbon atoms, and R3 being an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue containing 1 with 10 carbon atoms;
3 / ester-type soaps comprising alkaline or alkaline-earth salts of acids of the R1O-SO3H type in which R1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue containing 10 to 20 carbon atoms, this group R1 preferably being linked to oxygen by means of a secondary carbon atom.
Proportions suitable for these compositions according to the invention are: part of the sulfonated product to 1 to 5 parts of bentonite, but the invention is not limited to these proportions.
The compositions in accordance with the invention are suitable
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
for washing all textile fibers, in the raw state, in the form of yarn, or in the form of made-up fabrics or in pieces. They are also suitable for washing glass, porcelain, metal, etc. In addition, they are suitable for washing the skin, for use as a shampoo for the hair, for general purposes of the toilet and Household. They can be molded into tablets and bars, and then can be used in a manner analogous to ordinary soap. It can also be made into suitable pastes for this purpose. If desired, you can add coloring and fragrant materials.
An alkaline material such as borax, bisodium phosphate (2 atoms of sodium and 1 of hydrogen) or other sodium phosphate, or carbonate or bicarbonate can be used together with the compositions according to the present invention. sodium, etc ..., or mixtures of these substances.
If desired, the compositions can be mixed with water or with glycerin or with both, and compositions mixed with water or with glycerin or both are included in the present invention.
A suitable composition for washing textiles can be obtained by mixing 170 gr. of bentonite and 85 gr. sodium salt of a sulfonated amino compound having the formula C17 H33.CO.NH.C2H4.SO3Na, and dissolving or dispersing, or dissolving and dispersing this mixture in 36.3 liters of hot water.
As another example of a composition in accordance with the present invention, it has been found that a satisfactory composition for washing the hair can be obtained by mixing 3 parts of bentonite and 1 part of the sodium salt of an olefin sulfonated having the formula C15H31OSO3Na and 1 part of sodium bicarbonate, the parts being
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
weight. 14 gr. of this composition will be dissolved or dispersed or dissolved and dispersed, in 283 gr. of water approx.
A suitable mixture can also be obtained by cracking paraffin, fractionating the cracked product so as to obtain a fraction which boils between 200 and 300 ° C. and which contains the C13-C18 olefins. sulphating these olefins by treating the fraction in question with 96% H2SO4 at 10 ° C. and neutralizing the sulphated product after removing excess sulfuric acid with sodium lye , which makes it possible to obtain the sodium salts of the acid esters of sulfuric acid.
1 part by weight of these ester salts is mixed with 9 parts by weight of bentonite, and this composition is used at a concentration of 0.5% in water and at a temperature of approximately 51.6 C. of raw wool. The wool thus drawn is more open and lustrous, and it has a better color than after drying with soap.
A mixture of 1 gr. of the above ester salts and 3 gr. of bentonite, dispersed in 150 cc of hot water, provides a satisfactory lotion for the hair; the foam produced has a firmer and tighter texture than that obtained when using the ester salts alone.
Even when used with hard water, such shampoo is easily rinsed out of the hair.
Instead of employing, in the above mixtures, salts from a fraction which contains C13-C18 olefins, it is also possible to employ salts from a fraction which contains C10-C18 olefins.
In the above examples, it should be understood that the constituent parts of the mixture can be added to water without prior mixing, either separately or simultaneously, and that the properties of these solutions or these solutions.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
suspensions or both, are the same as in the above examples.
The mixtures in accordance with the present invention have the advantageous property of not forming insoluble calcium or magnesium soaps with the ordinary water used for washing; in addition, these mixtures have, thanks to the properties of bentonite, a characteristic water softening power.
