<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Ball valve.
The present invention relates to valves of the type in which a ball which is ordinarily disposed freely in front of the flow port and in the liquid stream, is moved away from a seal provided in front of the flow port when 'a control member is pushed forward, which causes the valve to open, while when the control member is brought back, the ball is automatically pressed AU pressed against the aforementioned seal under the ac-

tion of liquid pressure, which closes the valve.
The valve object of the invention differs from known valves of this type by a particularly simple construction given that it consists only of two main parts namely, on the one hand, a T-shaped housing, consisting of a tube through which the liquid passes and which has a flow orifice and, on the other hand, a cap covering the free end of the housing, and which can be rotated in both directions, the rotation in one direction or the other determining its translation.
The bottom of this cap is integral with an axial rod which passes above the flow orifice and then passes through a seal provided upstream of this orifice so that, when this orifice is advanced rod, it causes by spacing of the ball the opening of the valve, and when brought back it produces the closing of the valve by applying the ball against the aforementioned seal under the effect of the pressure of the liquid .
The description which follows, with reference to the appended drawing, given by way of example, will make it possible to understand how the invention can be implemented.
Fig. 1 shows, partly in longitudinal section and partly in elevation, a first embodiment of the valve.
Fig. 2 shows separately, in the same way, the cap and its stem.
Fig. 3 shows in elevation the end of the housing which is capped by the cap.
Fig. 4 shows in longitudinal section
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
According to fig. 1 the housing 9,. Is formed at one of its ends 'in the form of a connector, for example a welded connector a', and it has approximately in its middle a flow pipe a2, so that 'it has a T-shape; this housing is arranged a rod d which passes above the flow pipe and which passes through a seal d '.
This rod d can undergo a longitudinal translational movement by the fact that it is made integral with a cap b which covers the housing a and which cooperates, by means of a lug b 'fixed to the inner wall of the cap (fig. . 2), with a helical groove e provided on the outer wall of the housing a (fig. 3). When the bonnet is rotated, it, and therefore the rod, move in the longitudinal direction of the housing. In front of the free end of the rod d is freely disposed a ball e, preferably glass; this valve therefore works as follows:
When the cap is rotated in one of the two directions, the rod is pushed forward in the direction of the ball e which is thus detached and moved away from the joint f.
As a result, the liquid can exit through the flow pipe a2 to the extent of the translation given to the rod. uand the cap b is rotated in the opposite direction, the rod comes back, the ball e follows the movement of the rod under the action of the pressure of the liquid, until it comes to rest against the seal f.
The embodiment shown in fig. 4 differs from the previous one in that the cap can be screwed on and unscrewed by means of an internal thread b2 which engages with a thread of the housing a. An insert g of suitable profile prevents the ball from falling out of the housing.

The valve object of the present invention constantly ensures a good seal with an extremely easy operation, that is to say requiring no effort, and - 'it is, moreover, particularly simple and inexpensive to manufacture. . On the other hand, it can be seen that the inadvertent opening of the valve by complete removal of the cap b is impossible or is at the very least made difficult.
