<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
6). Ce ventilateur est
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>

always leave the same heating ga.z circulating, but it is necessary to insert in the circuit. this effect particular heating devices. The direct heating of the circulating gases takes place, on the other hand, in accordance with the invention, by bringing into the circuit fresh heating gases originating from a fireplace with heating by radiance, oil or gas.
It is therefore possible, in the new process, to use, depending on the conditions of each particular case, solid, liquid or gaseous fuels for heating the apparatus, so that the gas pressure in the circuit remains invariable, it is necessary to evacuate from the circuit a quantity of flue gas corresponding to the quantity of fresh gas introduced into it. Preferably, the excess gas is vented just before the point of entry of the fresh gases. The value of the pressure prevailing in the heating gas circuit can be regulated by means of a throttle valve mounted in the excess gas discharge pipe.
The sensible heat of the flue gases can be used, for example, for the preheating of the combustion air, or of the material to be treated.
The circulation of heating gases in a circuit can be produced in different ways. The means by which the circulation of gas cases is advantageously produced depends, apart from the construction conditions, above all on the working temperature and on the pressure which the device producing the circulation of gases must overcome. Usually a centrifugal fan or propeller is sufficient.
If, on the contrary, it is necessary to produce the circulation of very large quantities of heating gas by overcoming a relatively high pressure, the power of the device, serving to produce this circulation of the gases, becomes quite great; in this case, the heating gases are, in accordance with the invention, put into circulation by the kinetic energy of the fresh gases;.,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
introduced in one or more places.
Thus, for example, to meet the energy requirements, a pressurized draft furnace is used, in which the fresh heating gases escape from a combustion chamber with high pressure and high speed and, by their kinetic energy, maintain the circulation of heating gases. The pressurized draft fireplace can be operated either by the pulsation process or by the uniform pressure process. The flue gas will be evacuated from the circuit advantageously with a pressure such that they can still actuate a gas turbine exhaust, which in turn controls the compressors for the gas and the combustion air.
As the endurance limit of metals decreases rapidly above 5009, the pressurized draft furnace should always be used instead of a mechanical device for circulating the gases, when the working temperature is. significantly greater than 500. Above 800-900, the use of fans or blowers with metal propellers is also impossible. In this case also, the circulation of the heating gases is, according to the invention, produced by furnace draft / under pressure, which in turn provides virtually free of charge the energy for waxing the heating gases. fage. The process according to the invention therefore makes it possible to economically carry out heating by circulating gas even at temperatures above 800-1000.
In many cases it will be advantageous to mount the device, producing the circulation of the heating gases, not in one place, but in two or more endpoints of the circuit. Likewise, it is possible to provide two or more heating gas circuits in a single desiccation and distillation apparatus. In addition, several of these apparatus can be placed next to each other. , and connect them together in such a way that the hot gases coming out of a device are returned to the two adjacent devices.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In the oven to achieve as uniform a temperature distribution as possible inside the appliance, in accordance with the invention, several heating gas channels are placed next to each other and connected. between them in such a way that they can be traversed by the heating gases following a direct current or following several parallel circuits. In addition, the direction of flow of the heating gases can also be reversed at regular time intervals. This inversion can be produced, depending on the construction of the heating device by circulation of gases, by inversion valves or registers, by reversing the direction of rotation of the device producing the circulation of gases, by reversing the direction of flow of the gases. fresh gas or the like.
For each of the possible means mentioned above, the inversion can be carried out by hand or automatically by mechanical devices.
The apparatus according to the invention consists of two or more heating gas channels, which are arranged next to or above one another and which are connected to each other by means of such that one or more heating gas circuits are possible. In each heating gas channel are interposed one or more vertical chambers or retorts, which can be distributed as desired in the channel. In general, these chambers will be so arranged that the heat exchange between the heating gas and the walls of the chambers is as great as possible. Likewise, the retorts or chambers can have any desired cross section. depending on the material to be treated, chambers with cifcular, elliptical or rectangular section will be chosen.
The loading and unloading of the chambers or retorts can take place continuously or discontinuously. Likewise, it is possible to combine two or more chambers into a group, of which the chambers are loaded at the same time and unloaded at the same time.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
same time. In this case, it is advantageous to have, for the vapors and distillation gases which emerge, above the chambers a common collecting space, from which the gases are carried away further.
In order for the material to slide easily out of the channels, the latter are advantageously widened slightly downwards. At high working temperatures, or in the case of materials which, during the distillation, exert a thrust due to 2: an expansion or swelling, it is at. recommend that the chambers be fitted with exterior ribs, which further increase the heat exchange between the heating gas and the chamber wall.
As rotten building materials, chambers or retorts, steel is preferably used. Below 500-550 C, molten steel is sufficient, while above these temperatures one will use steels whose silicon endurance limit is increased by the addition of molybdenum, chromium or aluminum. these steels also have a greater resistance to attacks from chemical agents. Where appropriate, the chambers will also be constructed from refractory ceramics or refractory bricks. Heating gas channels can be constructed of molten steel or masonry.
To avoid unnecessary loss of chalear, steel heating gas channels will be fitted with an internal or external heat-insulating coating.
As the chambers are loaded from the top and are unloaded from the bottom, it is advantageous to place the apparatus on a supporting metal frame. This frame can at the same time serve to support the devices for loading the chambers.
The accompanying drawings show by way of example some possible embodiments of the object of the invention.
A first embodiment of an apparatus

according to the invention is shown in Figures 1 and 2, vertical respectively in a longitudinal sectional view / and in horizontal section along the line II-II of FIG. 1.
Another embodiment is shown in fig. 3 also in a vertical longitudinal sectional view, and in FIG. 4. in a horizontal section - following line IV-IV of figure 3.
Fig. 5 shows another possible embodiment of the invention in a horizontal sectional view.
Likewise, a fourth example of the apparatus according to the invention is shown in Figs. 6 and 7, while
Fig. 8 is a section taken along line VIII-VIII of FIG. 7 and
Fig. 9 shows a section along the line 1X-IX of FIG. 8.
Fig. 10 schematically shows a particular arrangement of the heating gas circuit.
Figures 1 and 2 show, as an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention, a desiccation or distillation oven with sixteen chambers of elongated rectangular cross section; these chambers are arranged in groups of eight in two heating gas channels 1 and 2, which are also rectangular, so that in cross section (fig. 2) their longitudinal direction is located along the longitudinal direction of the heating channel or parallel to this direction. As furthermore emerges from FIG. 2, the chambers 3 are arranged in two rows of four chambers in each heating gas channel.
So that the heating gases can circulate in a circuit, the heating gas channels are connected to each other at their ends by connecting pipes, in the shape of a semi-circle 4. The intermediate pieces 5 allow the channels to be connected. gas heating

ge 1 and 2, from the rectangular elm, to the semicircle-shaped junction pipes 4. They serve at the same time as chambers, in which the circulating gases can mix with the fresh heating gases coming from burners 6 to 9. Depending on the direction of flow of the heating gases, either the burners 6 and 8 or the burners 7 and 9 are activated.
If you do not attach great importance to a uniform temperature distribution, it is possible to work only with burners ö and 9.
The propeller 11 controlled directly by an electric motor 10, is used to circulate the heating gases with a high speed. If it is desired to reverse the direction of flow of the heating gases, it suffices to change the direction of rotation of the electric motor, which can, if necessary, take place automatically.
The gas burners are also switched on and off correspondingly. However, if the fresh heating gases come from a central gas-fired, oil-fired or grate-type fireplace used in accordance with the invention, this fireplace can also remain in continuous operation during the reversal of the direction of circulation of the heating gases, and it suffices to modify the connection of the ducts of the fresh heating gases in a corresponding manner .
Above the burners 6 to 9, the excess gases are evacuated from the circuit through orifices 1 @. One opens each fcis that number of gas discharge orifices corresponding to the number of az burners put into action. For the adjustment of the pressure in the heating gas circuit, there are provided, in the flue gas discharge pipes (not shown), throttle valves or similar devices. The sensible heat of the flue gas can be used for preheating the bulk material to be treated, combustion air for the fireplace, or other material.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
In the exemplary embodiment according to Figures 1 and 2, the chambers 3 are joined by four into a group, the chambers of which can be loaded together and unloaded together. The vapors and gases, generated by the distillation in the chambers, arrive in a collecting space 13, which is closed in a gas-tight manner with respect to the outside air by means of a cover 14. From this collecting space 13 , the gases then flow through a pipe 15 into a collecting pipe 16 '(see in particular FIG.
2). For the chambers, arranged in the heating gas channel, 1, corresponding gas pipes (not shown) are provided on the other longitudinal side of the apparatus.
The four chambers of each group are closed at their lower part by a plate 17. As for the lids 14, the gas-tight closure is produced here also by a hydraulic guard or by a sand arch. The fixing of the plates 17 is not shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. These plates can be suspended, in the form of valves with pivoting movement, in articulations which, in turn, are fixed to the side walls of the heating gas channels; on the other hand, it is also possible to separately support the Plates 17 with the material to be treated lying on these plates, which relieves the heating gas channels to a great extent.
The loading of the chambers takes place by lifting the cover 14 and filling these chambers with the material to be treated, during loading, the gas collecting space 13 is preferably closed on the side of the collecting pipe 13. Unloading of the gas. chambers takes place in a simple manner by removing the gas closing plates 17.
The heating / channels are mounted on cross beams 18, so that even at high temperatures no bending can occur. The transverse beams 18 rest on their c8té on long beams.

The vertical chambers 27 pass through the two heating gas channels and are also open at their upper and lower parts. They have an elliptical cross section and are arranged side by side - one another in groups of three or four. Contrary to what is the case in the apparatus according to fig.

one after the other in the direction of flow of the heating gases, but are offset from each other, which increases the transmission of heat from the heating gas to the walls of the heaters. bedrooms.
The chambers 27 are joined by eleven into a group, and these eleven chambers of a group are loaded at the same time and unloaded at the same time. Correspondingly, these chambers comprise a common gas collecting space 28, from which the gases which are evolved arrive via a duct 29 to a collecting duct 30 (see in particular my fig. 4). The common lower closure of the chambers of a group is achieved here also by a plate 31, which can be fixed to the lower heating gas channel or to the supporting frame of the apparatus. Each gas collecting space 28 is closed by a cover 32.
In the cover 32 as well as in the closure plate 31, the gas-tight closure is also effected by hydraulic guards or sand guards.
The heating gas channels and the chambers are supported by transverse beams 33, which are mounted on longitudinal beams 34. At their ends, the longitudinal beams 34 rest on supports 35 of such a height that it is easy to reach. have 'access' from below to all parts of the desiccation or distillation apparatus.
In the embodiments described above, the loading and unloading of the chambers take place discontinuously. But the construction of the apparatus is not fundamentally altered when the chambers can be continuously charged and discharged. Likewise, it is possible to combine several chambers in groups in a way other than in the apparatus shown in FIGS.
1 to 4.
In particular, in the case of retorts or chambers of great height, it may be provided, in accordance with the in-
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
vention, not only two, but a larger number of heating gas channels, with different heating gas circuits, above and / OR next to each other. It is advantageous, in this case, to: ¯ 'Supply the heating gas circuits, from a central fireplace, with fresh heating gas.
Another possible embodiment of the invention is shown in FIG. 5. Three heating gas channels 36, of identical rectangular cross section, are arranged side by side. In each gas heating channel are arranged three long cellars; - trans @ ersale bres 37, also sectional / rectangular. Intermediate pieces 38 connect the rectangular heating gas channels 36 to semicircular shaped junction pipes 39. These junction pipes are constructed in such a way that the flow of heating gas from the middle channel is divided by equally to penetrate the two adjacent channels.
Unlike the devices described, so far, the embodiment following the rig. 5 does not have propellers or centrifugal fans to produce the circulation of the heating gases, but four burner chambers 40 to 43, from which fresh high voltage heating gases flow with great speed. The kinetic energy of the heating gases: cool is sufficient to keep the heating gases constantly circulating in the circuit. Depending on the direction of flow, either the burner chambers 40 and 43 or the burner chambers 41 and 42 are put into operation. Likewise, the excess gases are discharged through outlet openings 44 or 45.
The burner chambers work, in the example considered, according to the principle of uniform pressure, so that the compressed gas that the compressed combustion air / must be supplied to them.
An air blower 48 and a blower is provided for this purpose.
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
flerie 49, which are actuated by a turbine 46, which is actuated by the flue gases from the burner chambers. The sensible heat of the flue gases can then still be used in an air heater 47. The air and gas pipes, running from the blowers 48 and 49 'to the various burner chambers 40 to 43, are not shown on fi g. 5.
When using, in accordance with the invention, burner chambers, the working temperatures of the circulating heating gases may be above 1000. Likewise, the speed of circulation of. Heating gas can be increased in an extraordinary way, so that the output of the apparatus increases in a corresponding ratio. If the working temperature is above 600-700, the air heater 47 is advantageously placed in front of the exhaust gas turbine 46.
The loading and unloading of the chambers 37 can take place continuously and discontinuously. Likewise, it is also possible here to arrange several heating gas channels next to each other, so that 'a battery of drying chambers and distillation chambers are obtained. The question of whether to charge and discharge each chamber separately, or whether to charge and discharge several chambers at the same time, depends only on the size of the apparatus.
The invention further relates to the fact that a chamber or retort. or several chambers or retorts, united in a group, are arranged in the heating gas channel (s) in such a way that relative displacement between the chambers and the walls of the heating gas channel is possible. Furthermore, according to the invention, the chambers or retorts must have a construction such that relative displacement of the chambers between them is possible.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 6 to 9, he

shown is a desiccation or distillation furnace, in which each aistillation chamber is surrounded by two heating chambers. Each series of five heating chambers, which surround a total of four distillation chambers, here constitutes a group, in which the chambers are loaded together and unloaded together.
In the example of embodiment chosen, there is provided at the focal point four groups of heating chambers, which are united in a single device and which are arranged in two rows next to each other; the buttocks of the chambers as well as the individual chambers are mounted in parallel ar with respect to the flow of heating gas. Several groups of chambers, united in a seal device, can also be arranged in a single row, namely next to one another or one after the other with respect to the flow of gas. heating, retorts or individual chambers may be located in each rump in the longitudinal direction of the row.
The circulation gases, heated to the dry up,?. 2-; necessary working time, enter the central channel 51, which is divided into two channels 52 and 53 (figs. 6 and 7). In each of these channels are arranged two heating groups, each comprising five heating chambers 54. of the five heating chambers surround a total of four chambers 55, intended to receive the material to be subjected to desolation. drying or distillation. The heating channels have a construction such that the chambers of each group can be loaded at the same time and unloaded at the same time.
After the heating gases have given up a relatively small part of their sensible heat to the chambers 54 :, they reach the collecting channels 52 and 53 and are returned through the pipes 56 and 57 to the fan 58 serving to produce the gas circulation. (fig. 6). This fan is
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
actuated directly by the electric motor 59 (fig. 7).
Before entering the furnace, the heating gases are brought back to the desired working temperature by mixing therewith fresh heating gases. For this purpose, a gas burner 60 is provided between the fan 58 and the middle channel 51. The excess flue gases are discharged through the pipe 61, which is arranged directly on the casing or volute to the fan. so that the heating gases are distributed as uniformly as possible in all the heating chambers, a special deflector body 62 is arranged in the middle channel 51.
But, if necessary, it can also be provided, in the channel 51, as well as in the channels b2 and 53, several guide blades (not shown) which make it possible to obtain not only a uniform distribution of the heating gases in the diffe - room rents, but at the same time also a reduction in losses due to eddies.
In each group of four desiccation or distillation enclosures 55, there is provided a common gas collecting space 63 (fig. 6), with a gas outlet 64. Each gas collecting space is closed. by a cover 65, which is engaged: in a hydraulic guard 66. This hydraulic guard produces.a gas-tight closure, on the one hand, between the heating chamber and the distillation chamber, and, on the other hand, between the distillation chamber and the outside air.
The distillation chamber is closed at its lower part by a cover 67, which is provided with a hydraulic guard. For the evacuation of the treated material, the cover 67 can be lowered or it can be tilted around an axis.
The heating gas channels and the chambers rest on supports 68 which can if necessary also serve to support the loading devices.
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
The method of mounting the heating chambers in the heating gas channel is shown in fig. 8. In the chosen arrangement, the chambers 54 are mounted so as to be movable on a frame 69, which is advantageously made of heavy sheet iron. To reduce heat loss, a refractory lining 70 is provided below the frame 69.
In order that heating gas cannot escape from the heating gas channels to the outside, a resilient and easily yieldable sheet metal frame 71 is provided, which is attached, on the one hand, to the chambers. 54 and, on the other hand, to the base plate 72 or which is pressed against it by means of spring studs 91.
The sheet metal frame 71 comprises a flange, which is engaged in a hydraulic guard 73, so that the aistiilation enclosures are closed in a gas-tight manner with respect to: @ the outside air, to ensure the airtightness of the troops of heating tubes upwards with respect to the gas collecting space 63, on the group of heating chambers is fixed a sheet metal frame 74 which at the same time carries the insulating gasket between the heating gas channel and The gas collecting space.
The sheet metal frame 74 is engaged by a flange in the upper hydraulic guard 66, so that not only the gas collecting space 63 is gas-tight separated from the heating gas channels, but also displacements between the sheet metal frame 74 and the heating gas channels can be easily compensated.
The heating gases are guided upwards and downwards by guide plates 75 inside the heating chambers, so that a good transmission of heat is obtained from the heating gas to the walls of the chambers. of heating. In the group of heating chambers shown in fig. 8, there is shown an arrangement such that the inlet and outlet openings for the heating gases are located, alternatively, in a chan-
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
bre, at its lower part, and, in the adjacent chamber, at its upper part.
However, it is also possible to arrange the heating gas inlet and outlet ports only at the upper part or only at the lower part of the chambers, so that the heating gas channels 51, 52 and 53 can be built notably lower.
In order to achieve as uniform heating as possible of the heating chambers it can be seen that it is necessary to reverse the direction of flow of the circulating gases at regular time intervals. Fig. 10 shows schematically how the heating gas system can advantageously be constructed in this case, as well as when using a centrifugal fan to provide circulation of the heating gases. The furnace is represented by the rectangle 76. From the furnace two heating gas pipes 77 and 78 leave, each of which divides in front of the fan 79 producing the circulation of the gases.
The branch conduits resulting from this division are arranged in pairs one above the other, so that two branch conduits can always be closed by two plane registers 80. The plane registers 80 are advantageously suspended from cables or chains, which pass over rollers 81.
The fresh heating gases, necessary for the heating of the circulating gases, are introduced behind the fan 79 through the pipe 82 into the circuit, while. that excess flue gases are vented to the outside through
83 the tubing / provided on the ventilator. In fig. 10, the path of the circulating gases in one direction (which corresponds to the position of registers 80 as shown) is indicated by arrows a, while the other direction is. gas flow is indicated by arrows b. The sensible heat of the gases is preferably used beforehand.

of smoke for preheating the combustion air.
Fig. 9 shows, in a holizontal sectional view, a group of heating chambers consisting of five heating chambers 54. The individual heating chambers 54 are assembled together, in a gas-tight manner, by rigid sheets 85 in the form of a u , so as to arrange between them four distillation or desiccation chambers 53.
When, for specific reasons, a relative displacement of the individual heating chambers with respect to one another. the other is desirable, it can be obtained, in accordance with the invention, for example by connecting the different heating chambers together, by elastic sheets 87 and by separating, using a particular device , for example the mpyen of threaded rods 84 and handwheels. main 86 (see fig. 6) the heating chambers more or less one of the other, so that the distillation chambers 53 increase.
To limit the relative displacement, distance bolts 88 (fib. 9) are provided for each ribbed heating chamber. So that, during the backward movement, the heating chambers are not too close to each other, it is also provided, in the chambers provided with elastic sheets 87, sheets 89 in the foreground of u, which correspond to sheets 85, but have a shortened wing, however, so that there is sufficient room for fixing the -; elastic threads,
In the apparatus according to the invention, shown in FIGS. 6 to 9;
the walls and the chambers are constructed in such a way that they can be dismantled separately or in groups in a simple way and also be moved in a horizontal direction, so that they can be brought together and moved apart one from the other, without compromising the gas-tight closure between the different enclosures, nor their tight closure with respect to the outside air. By making it possible to relocate individual rooms 54

relative to each other and thus their spacing and by making it possible to increase in this way the internal width of the distillation enclosures 55, the unloading of these enclosures is considerably facilitated after the distillation operation is completed.
The apparatus and process according to the invention are suitable for the drying, roasting or distillation of bulk materials of all kinds. In particular, they can be used advantageously for the incomplete combustion or the coking of coals.
