"APPAREIL POUR L'OBTENTION DE COURANTS DE MELANGE AQUEUX REPRESENTANT UN POIDS CONSTANT DE MATIERE EN SUSPENSION . "
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"APPARATUS FOR OBTAINING AQUEOUS MIXTURE CURRENTS REPRESENTING A CONSTANT WEIGHT OF SUSPENSION MATERIAL."
The object of the present invention is a continuous apparatus for obtaining. aqueous mixture streams representing a constant weight of suspended matter.
It is particularly suitable for the treatment of mixtures formed by the suspension in water of particles of plant, animal or animal origin. mineral, such. crown, eg, pulp, paperboard and the like.
Apparatus are known in which a variation in the density of the mixture passing through them at a constant pressure automatically causes the density of the mixture to vary inversely. mixture upstream of the device.
Devices of this species known to date are
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
based on the change in the frictional resistance occurring with a change in the density of the aqueous mixture stream and, since they do not take into account the change in the flow rate of this stream, foundation of the density, their operation is lacking precision and speed and does not allow to send to the operating devices a constant weight of material to be treated.
In order to avoid these drawbacks, the apparatus according to the present invention is designed. in such a way that a variation in the density of the mixture which passes through it at constant pressure automatically causes an inverse ratio to vary not only the density of the mixture upstream of the apparatus, but also the volume delivered by it, with as a result, the stream of aqueous mixture leaving the apparatus represents a constant weight of suspended material.
For this purpose, according to the invention, the constancy of this weight is obtained automatically by correcting the density of the mixture upstream of the apparatus and by an appropriate simultaneous variation of the volume delivered by the apparatus. this effect, according to the invention, part of the current flowing through the apparatus acts on a member capable of moving and connected by suitable means to a device controlling the flow rate of the. mixture used to correct the density and to a device for controlling the volume delivered by the apparatus.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the apparatus, said movable organ is under the action of. weight of a determined volume of the mixture delivered through the apparatus in direct current, and under constant pressure.
For this purpose, according to the invention, the apparatus comprises on the path of the stream of aqueous mixture flowing from a reservoir at constant level, a surface movable in height, adapted to. constantly support part of said current and connected by appropriate mechanical means, on the one hand, to a

on the other hand, to a valve controlling the flow orifice of the aforesaid reservoir, so that a displacement in height of said surface, due to the variation in the weight of the part of the mixture that it supports, causes the operation of said valve and the variation by the aforesaid valve of the section of the flow orifice of the reservoir, and, therefore, of the flow rate of the device.
According to the invention, the aforesaid mobile support surface is advantageously connected by a system of levers or. analogous to a single control device acting simultaneously on the density adjustment member of. aqueous mixture upstream of the device and sar one or more valves, one of which controls the total flow rate of the device as a function of density, and the other the volume and speed of. aqueous current directed onto said support surface,
In order to achieve a ram-free flow of the aqueous stream on this moving surface, the latter is disposed at the top of an inclined plane which the stream is forced to. back up on its path in the device.
In order to increase the action due to the weight, the invention provides, in combination with said movable surface, a float oscillating on an axis fixed above the latter perpendicularly to the direction of the aqueous current, which float can be applied. by a variable counterweight to come to rest on the surface of the liquid sheet flowing on the mobile support surface.
Other characteristics of the present invention will emerge from the description of the accompanying drawings, which represent schematically and by way of nonlimiting example two embodiments of the invention applied to the treatment of paper pulp.

the volume of mixture to be admitted into the box 14 as a function of its density.
As can be seen above all in FIG. 2 the body 14 is delimited laterally by two partitions 16 forming an overflow and, in front, by a wall 17 in the lower part of which is made an orifice 18 controlled by a valve 19. It follows from the above that a part of the mixture admitted by the valve 15 into the box 14 can flow over the ports 16, while the other part passes through the orifice 18.
The valve 19 controlling this latter orifice can in turn be adjusted, on the one hand, by hand and, on the other hand, automatically as a function of the density of the. aqueous mixture.
According to the invention, the paste or the mixture flowing through the orifice 18 then passes into a third box 20, in which its weight acts on a support movable in height and connected by suitable mechanical means to the valve 21. which receives through line 22 the aqueous mixture used to adjust the density of the paste and the desired quantity of which is sent through tube 23 to diffuser 8 of box 4.
For this purpose, the dough arrives in the box 20 at the foot of an inclined plane 24 at the top of which is placed a passage 25 capable of moving in height under the action of the weight of the dough, on the path of which it is placed. In order to facilitate the circulation of the dough, this passage is inclined in the direction of movement of the latter, so that the dough arriving, thanks to the inclined plane 24, without any eddies, in the passage 25 goes down. the latter to join in the orifice 26 the dough coming directly from the box 14 over the overflow 16. The duct 27 connected to the orifice 26 directs the part of the dough that has passed through the apparatus towards the location of its use.
In order to be able to control the vsnne 21 by the movable corridor 25, according to the invention, the latter is suspended, by ti-

a fixed knife 31 and suspended., at its other end by a rod 32 to a rocking beam 33 balanced on a fixed knife 34 using the counterweight 35.
The oscillations of the. flail 30 due to variations in. weight of the fart flowing through the passage 25 are thus transmitted amplified by the rod 36 to a socket 37 fitted on an arm 38 integral with a love 39 rotating crazy on an axis 40 and placed without lateral play between two ratchet wheels 41 and 42 wedged on the axis 40 and having teeth inclined in opposition.
On the cam 39 rest two rollers 43 whose axes 44 are respectively fixed to. pawls 45 and 46 placed in opposition and susceptible. to rotate on their respective axes 47 and 48, fixed to a cradle 49 capable of rotating on the axis 40.
Depending on the direction of rotation of the cam determined by the movement of the passage 25, one of the pawls 45 or 46 engages in the corresponding ratchet wheel, thereby securing the axis 40 of the cradle. 49, however only in one direction of rotation.
This axis 40 is connected by means of a force limiter 50 to a shaft 51 which controls per a train of gears 52 the axis 53 of the butterfly valve of the valve 21.
The force required to rotate the shaft 51 is transmitted from an appropriate source of force by a pulley 54, a shaft 55 and a speed reducer 56 to a shaft 57 carrying a crank 58, the button 59 of which engages in. the cradle 49.
It follows from the foregoing that this cradle is constantly driven in an oscillating movement and, depending on the position of the cam 39, imparts to the shaft 51 a rotation either to the right or to the left.
In order to allow the movable corridor 25 to control the position of the valves 15 and 19, according to the invention, the shaft 51 attacks by suitable means, such as a worm 60 and

linked, for example, by chains 64 and 65 to the wheels 66 and 67 which control, respectively, for example, by the worms and helical wheels 68 and 69 the rods 70 and 71 of the valves 15 and 19, the first of which gives automatically the flow rate at constant weight and the second the flow rate at constant volume, in relation to the variations in density of the dough currently passing over the support 25.
According to the present invention the action due to the weight of the dough in the lane 25 can be increased by resting on the surface of the aqueous stream a float 72 having little. near the width of the hallway and hovering around 8. ' a pin 73 fixed to the walls of the body 20, the float 72 being loaded with a movable counterweight 74 so as to be able to exert a variable pressure sar the surface of the liquid vsina.
There is liea to point out that the part of the liquid vein serving to detect variations in density and playing an active role in the apparatus, according to the invention, is maintained at constant volume.
The apparatus, according to the invention, operates in the following manner:
The arrival of the paste having been established by the pipe 1, the valve 21 is opened by hand, for example, at half of its flow rate, then using the valve 15 the corresponding flow rate is manually adjusted. to the volume giving the desired weight of material.
The flow rate of paste on the movable support 25, necessary and sufficient for the establishment of a fairly thick liquid stream flowing at a determined speed, is then adjusted by hand, by means of the valve 19, one presses on this stream. the float 72 by the action of the slider counterweight 74 and the assembly is then balanced by bringing the beam 33 into its horizontal position by moving the counterweight 35, so that the arm 38 of the cam 39 is is in its horizontal position in which the pawls 45 and 46 do not engage any of the ratchets 41 and 42 and hence the shaft 51 remains stationary.
Valves 21, 15 and 19 keep, for
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
therefore, their position unchanged * If., eg, the dough comes to. increase in density, lane 25 descends, under the combined effect of the weight of the liquid stream and the reaction on float 72.
Cam 39 then rotates, e.g., counterclockwise, and pawl 46 engages wheel 42, so as to rotate shaft 51 counterclockwise. which causes the valve 21 to open wider, which, giving more control mixture in the diffuser 8, decreases the density of the paste. The new opening of the valve 21 is maintained until the density of the aqueous vein on the movable support 25 is sold to. its initial value, which will cause the support 25 to rise and a corresponding throttling of the passage section of the valve 21.
During the variation of the opening of the valve 21, the shaft 51 has simultaneously raised the valve 19, so that the flow of the paste through the orifice 18 remains constant despite the increase in its density. During this same period, the shaft 51 also acted on the valve 15, reducing the passage section of the orifice 13, so as to maintain the constant weight of material suspended in the aqueous stream entering the body 14.
It goes without saying that * when the density of the dough decreases, the various movable members of the apparatus perform movements in the opposite direction.
It goes without saying that the mechanical devices described above can be replaced by telemechanical or other electrical devices.
It follows from the foregoing that, by virtue of the present invention, the variation in the density of the dough has no influence on the volume of the current passing over the movable intake 25 and that the flow rate of this current remaining constant despite the fluctuations. - Riations of the density, the mobile support 25 does not record indications distorted by the variation in flow.
Finally, the presence of the float 72 does not risk
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
n of false indications as is the case. in known based devices. only on the frictional action and where it is employed alone, since the weight of the liquid vein on the support 25 and the constancy of its volume eliminate any anomalies.
Fig. 7 represents an alternative of the invention which is particularly suitable for treating very small quantities of dough. In this embodiment, the second constant level box of FIG. 1 with its valve 15 is eliminated and a valve 19 regulates the flow of the dough directed onto the movable support 25.
It goes without saying that the. The present invention is in no way limited to its embodiments described and shown, since the latter can be modified, according to the requirements of the practice or of the construction, without thereby departing from the scope of the invention.
