<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Signaling device or apparatus for vehicles, mainly for bicycles.
It is known, to increase traffic safety, to place signals at the rear of vehicles.
These signals are used more and more even for bicycles.
The object of the present invention is an apparatus which further increases traffic safety by producing a clearly defined and visible signal for the vehicle coming back when the vehicle is braked or even stopped. This result is obtained by means of a second electrical warning signal placed next to the rear light and in combination with the application of the vehicle brake; the usual rear light goes out and the second signal comes on
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
For example when braking or stopping the bicycle the word "stop" will appear in red at the rear.
The appended drawing represents by way of example an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side view of part of the bicycle fitted with the signaling device.
Figs. 2 and 3 represent the signal lamp.
Figs. 4 and 5 represent the automatic switch and
Fig. 6 shows the signaling device.
At the rear of the bicycle is placed a signal lamp 1: fixed removable by means of a clamp 2 and comprising two bulbs 3 and 4 and a lens 5. The bulb 4 and the lens 5 give the well-known red signal. .
In the wall 6 of the boot of the lamp 1 is cut out the word "Stop". Behind this wall 6 is placed a red glass or other transparent material 7, through which passes the light of the bulb 3. In the circuit of the bulbs 3 and 4 supplied in the known manner by any current source 18- 19 of the bicycle, is placed the switch 8, mounted in a boot 9, removable and fixed to the bicycle by a hook or flange 10. On a bolt 11 of the box is provided a switch lever 16, consisting of two tabs hoses 12, 13.
These tongues 12, 13 are curved at their free end from the front and grip the chain sprocket 17, for example on the rear part of the teeth, and press on its surface *
In the boot 9 are further provided two insulated contacts 14, 15 connectas to the circuit of the bulbs 3,4.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The switch lever 16 has a lot of play in the boot 9, so that the switch can be attached to sprockets of different sizes.
During operation, the switch lever 16 comes into contact with the contact 14. The bulb circuit 4 is thus closed and the ordinary red rear light is on. If now the bicycle decreases speed sensiblemnnt or comes to a complete stop, the contact lever 16 is placed on the contact 15 as a result of the movement back to the chain sprocket 17. The friction of the tabs 12, 13 on the chain wheel 17 is sufficient. to move the contact lever
16, thus closing the circuit of bulb 3; the word "Stop" is thus illuminated in red, while the bulb 4 is extinguished at the same moment, When the vehicle starts again, the word "Stop" disappears and the rear red light is illuminated again through the lens 5. The circuit is shown schematically in fig.6.
The bicycle thus has a continuously illuminated signal and the change from one to the other is done automatically.
