<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Pneumatic sling motor
The present invention a. for object a motor with pneumatic sling making it possible to obtain a powerful transmission of forces, in a very flexible way, by using for transmission agents hard balls projected on an elastic dirent or conversely elastic balls on a hard element , aolida.ire of a receiving wheel: the forces, the air being used, in this transmission, to drive, together with the centrifugal force, the balls and certain parts of the apparatus.
The apparatus essentially comprises a disc carrying tubes and acting as a sling to project the balls on the receiving wheel.
This projection is done by means of a crawling cone, the driving of which is obtained by the friction of the air and the balls projected during the rapid rotation of the disc-sling, creating a kind of cyclone on its, periphery.
The invention is further characterized by a ball distributor housed in a hub fixed to the center of the sling disc, the said distributor allowing or not the admission of the balls into the tubes of the disc depending on the speed of the device and under the

control of a regulator acting directly on the distributor.
Finally, various features will be highlighted in the course of the following description and with reference to des. annexed sin which shows: figol, the apparatus seen in section along a vertical plane; fig.2, a section on a larger scale of the central part ... of the device; fig.3, the sling disc seen in section; fig.4, the same seen in plan; fig.5, the distributor seen in elevation; fig. 6, the same seen in plan.
The device (fig.l) comprises a frame 1 of suitable shape internally having a horizontal belt 2 supporting by means of setting screws 3, a ball bearing ring 4 which can be made absolutely damaged by the screws 3.
On the crown 4 rests a bowl 5 whose base is constituted by an annular tuasse 6 forming a gyroscope. The lower face of the gyroscope, called to bear on the balls of the crown 4, is arranged in a ramp inclined in the suitable direction to combat the pressure due to the centrifugal force.
The bottom 7 of the bowl 5 is mounted on a circular frame 8.
The bottom 7 rests by means of a bearing 10, on the external movable part of a ball bearing 11, the internal fixed part of which is secured to a bearing 12 carried by a chair 13 (figl and 2) resting on the base frame 1.
Part 10 has a tapered inner wall 10a allowing
EMI2.1
an ammanche-aent without play
The chair 13 also carries a second bearing 14 (fig.2) identical to the bearing 12. In these two bearings are housed ball bearings 15 on the movable internal part of which is
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
wedged a central shaft 16. The pointed base 17 of the latter rested on a ball 18 placed in a setting screw 19 screwing into the leg of the chair 130
On the shaft 16 is wedged a freewheel pulley 20 intended to receive the force of an auxiliary motor, the launching and driving; maintenance of the movement so much taken on the output of the engine.
The shaft 16 turns freely in a hole made in the bottom 7.
On this base rests one of the rings 21a 3, a ball bearing 21, the other ring of which fits into a bearing surface 22 solid with the base 23 of a cone 24, the rotation of which can be retorted, as can be seen to be independent of that of the bowl 5.
The ring 21a has a barrel 21b rotating idly on the shaft 16 and serving as a support for the base of a washer 2b driven by the shaft 16 by means of a lug 26 implanted in the latter and s' engaging in a mortise made in the washer,
The upper part of said washer has radial grooves 25a in which lugs 27 carried by the sling disc 28 engage. The disc 28 is fixed to the shaft 16 by means of a pressing nut 29. on the disc through a washer 30 and screwed onto the Threaded end of the shaft 16. A heavy ring 28a, fixed to the flywheel disc 28 and regulates the rotation of the disc.
The lugs 27 are long enough to allow air to pass between the washer 25 and the disc 28. In addition, many holes are drilled in the central part of the latter, finally the washer 30 and the nut 29 are castellated. so that the air can easily circulate through the said central part of the disc 28 so that the air itself projected the balls pa.r the. centrifugal force.
The disc 28 comprises a yoke hub 31 forming a funnel in the lower central part of which three end. series of tubes carried by the disc 28.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The first series consists of rectilinear tubes 32 arranged radially and terminating in the hub 31 through holes 33 (fi.3 and 4). These tubes are pierced with holes 34 providing passage to the air to produce the vacuum.
The second series consists of rectilinear tubes 35 which end in the funnel of the hub 31 through holes 36.
Finally, the third series comprises tubes 38 of small diameter and shaped according to an appropriate curve.
Orifices 39 drilled in the funnel of the hub 31 allow the tubes 38 to emerge therein to create the cyclone effect observed around the disc 28.
The hub 31 is covered by a conical casing 40 firmly fixed to the disc 28. This casing has an opening at its upper part of the same diameter as the opening of the hub 31.
In the funnel of said hub penetrates the distributor (fig. 2, 5 and 6) constituted by a conical core 41 on which are fixed four wings 42. These wings are of such shape as according to the given position, in height) to the distributor in the funnel, balls of appropriate diameter may or may not descend above the nut 29, the head of which is curved so as to let said balls go into the tubes 32.
The core 41 has at its upper part, a collar 41a forming a funnel and bringing the balls between the wings of the distributor.
The height adjustment of the distributor inside the funnel of the hub 31 is obtained by means of a rod 43 screwed into the end of the axis 44 of the distributor. this axis has grooves 45 intended to conduct the air, entering the distributor through holes 46, to a lower orifice 47.
The setting of the axis 44 inside the distributor and consequently the adjustment of the quantity of air leads to the orifice
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
47, are obtained by means of nut 48 and 49 screwing onto the externally threaded shaft for this purpose.
The nut 48 is placed in a housing bO which prevents its rotation during adjustment.
The rectilinear sliding of the distributor is guided by lugs 51 engaging in mortises 52 made in the hub 31. Screws 53 passing through the walls of said hub and engaging in grooves 54 made in the distributor, ensure the fixing of this one in the hub and the play of the drawer which places] The balls opposite the orifices of the four sling tubes trace a crown 47a arranged at the base of the distributor.
Above the hub 31 and the casing 40 is disposed a conical plate 55 of diameter such that a sufficient space for the passage of a ball is left between the edge of said plate and that of the cons 24. A cap 37 @ isposé above the distributor flatten the balls which could be thrown when they are lowered from the distributor. Holes drilled in the hat allow air to pass through which blows on the balls.
This plate b5 is suspended, or means of fasteners 56, from a wheel 57 provided with a grooved rim 58 similar to those of bicycles or automobiles.
The ball hub b9 of the wheel is carried by a hollow shaft 60, the threaded upper part of which is fixed to the internal movable ring of a ball bearing 61 housed in a horizontal cross member 1a of the frame.
The rim 58 of the wheel 57 is provided with a tire 62, the lower walls of which are reinforced by a rubber coating or sole 63 (a flattened pipe, for example), removably attached to the tire and which receives the shocks. .
The wheel 57 is secured to a housing 64 including the. outer side face can, if desired, receive a belt.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Above the. wheel, this casing 64 is conical and has at its upper part a collar 65 also capable of receiving a belt.
The housing 64 is made integral with the cup 5 and the flywheel 6 by means of a coupling circle 66.
On the cross-member la, is arranged a regulator 67 controlled by a pinion 68 wedged on the hub 59 of the wheel. 57 and transmitting the rotational movement thereof by means of a shaft 69 and pinions. 70 and 71.
The action of the regulator is exerted by means of levers 72 and 73 and by rod 74, on the rod 43 screwed into the axis 44 of the distributor and to act on the brake shoes 6a tightening on the flywheel 6.
A lever 75 allows direct manual action on the rod 43 and consequently on the distribution of the balls introduced. in the device. Said lever is immobilized by a cam 76 and an opposing spring 77.
The bottom of the bowl b and the bottom 23 of the cone 24 are drilled. Covers allowing a large intake of air under the cover 40.
The speed and the force of projection of the balls are further increased by the air than the pressure prevailing under the casing 40 obiligates to pass through the holes 34 of the tubes 32.
We thus obtain an effect I melts and at the same time of turbine which gives to the. wheel 57 a very. high speed of rotation.
Note that the stirring of the balls takes place over a small diameter, that of the distributor, while their projection is accomplished over a large diameter; that of disc 28.
The balls project jointly with the friction: the air entrain the crawling cone 24 and strike the coating 63, which, by its elasticity, sends them back into the plate 55 whose slope brings them back into the cylinder head hub 31 from where. they are thrown again towards the tire of wheel 57.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The casing 64 folds the balls which may collide or follow unforeseen trajectories. In addition, said casing while letting some of the air sucked in by the center of the device escape, most of it towards the cylinder head hub.
A belt arranged on the casing wall 64 or on its collar 65 makes it possible to recover the very flexible force thus provided by the engine.
The operation of the device is as follows:
For the start, the funnel of the hub 31 is filled with the diameter balls such that they can pass through the tubes 32 of the disc 28, but. said balls are retained in the funnel by the distributor placed in its upper position by the regulator at rest.
The motor is then started by hand, by means of a bottle, compressed air tank or other2 or by means of a small auxiliary motor connected by a belt to the pulley 20. This pulley drives, like the motor starter, the shaft 16 and consequently the disc 28 starts to rotate. Said rotation must be high speed.
It is then observed that during the rotation of the disc 28, the cone 24 is driven at the same speed as the disc.
This entrainment is due to the friction of the air expelled violently by the end of the three series of tubes 32, 3b and 38, arranged on the disc 28. The air sucked below by the openings of the bowl 5 and the bottom 23 passes through notches 31a made at the top of the hub 31 and penetrates into the funnel of said hub to escape through the tubes under the effect of centrifugal force.
When it is judged that the cone 24 has reached a sufficient speed, it is lowered by means of the lever '/.'), The distributor in the hub 31 and the balls then reach the inlet 33 of the tubes 34. From this moment, the atmospheric pressure
