Improvements to bung containers
The present invention relates to cans, barrels, barrels or similar containers made entirely or in part by thin sheet metal and proposes to provide them with a slug device capable of being incorporated into one of their thin walls without risk. rotation or tearing under the effect of the forces of installation or removal of the plug or bung.
According to the invention, this result is achieved owing to the fact that the thin sheet wall to include the plug is stamped to form a pocket or seat comprising a bottom.

annular, a polygonal periphery connecting the outer edge of this base to the rest of said wall, and, rationally also, a tubular neck formed by an extension of the internal edge of said annular base and delimiting the mouth of the container. The ferrule or bung engaged in this mouth is threaded to receive a plug or threaded bung and provided with a collar of similar polygonal contour and equal to the periphery of said pocket in order to fit into it exactly.
A polygonal reinforcement member is planned; it is constituted by an annular piece which is applied tightly against the polygonal periphery of the pocket so as to conform to it and to help it resist the forces tending to make it rotate with the ferrule.
According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, the polygonal annular piece forms part of a second pressed pocket in a shape similar to the first and having, as the latter, an annular bottom, a polygonal periphery and a tubular extension in. collar shape, these two pockets being nested exactly one inside the other to make a whole.

The cans, kegs or similar containers to which the invention is particularly applicable are manufactured industrially at the present time from thin sheet metal of about Omm, 3 to Omm, 8, most often cylindrical.
One of their walls, for example, bare of their bottoms, is provided with a plug intended to provide passage for the content which is introduced into or taken out.
According to the invention, the wall which must include the bung, here the upper bottom 1 of the receptacle, is pressed into a pocket which thus forms an integral part thereof.
This pocket comprises an annular bottom 2, a polygon periphery ± 3 which connects this bottom to the rest of the wall 1 and a tubular neck 4 following the internal edge of the annular bottom 2 and delimiting the opening through which the contents of the container must pass. either at the entrance or at the exit. In this opening is fitted the body of a threaded ferrule 5 provided with a polygonal flange 6 with a contour similar to the shape of the periphery 3 of the pocket. Into this ferrule 5 forming the bung proper is screwed a closing plug or bung 7.
The preferred embodiment of the invention comprises an additional sheet pocket for example measuring approximately the thickness of the bottom 1 of the receptacle having the pocket 2-3-4. This additional pocket has a polygonal rim 8 constituting a reinforcement. of the perimeter 3 of the first pocket, the two perimeters pressed against each other from all sides consolidating each other and preventing any deformation and any angular displacement of the plug.
This additional pocket also has an annular bottom

and a corresponding tubular collar 0 r0Sj? eC tivenent at the bottom 2 and at the collar 4 of the main pocket so that the two pockets fit exactly. The tubular collars of the two pockets are immobilized between the collar 6 of the bung 5 and a ring 51 formed by a folding

the bottom d3 the latter c t est-t-a.re its end opposite to its collar.
The ferrule or bung 5 is sufficiently massive to be turned on itself by means of the closure plug 7 relative to the pocket 2-3-4 if the latter were not reinforced. The reinforcement of this pocket is precisely intended to prevent this rotation when a force is exerted using an adjustable wrench as usual. The polygonal edges 3 and 8 of the two pockets surround the collar 6 and cooperate with it to help prevent rotation of the collar 5.
A sealing ring 11 may be trapped between the collar 6 and a flange which may have the plug or bung 7. the two pockets are preferably obtained in a single stamping pass to ensure intimate contact between their walls and make them a whole. In this way, the assembly is also facilitated.
