<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
Par contre,, il sera nécessaire de déplacer les points de suspension appartenant à chaque série individuelle d, e,f aussi bien dans la direction axiale que dans la di- rection circonférentielle si lion veut produire l'effet désiré par des chaînes de même longueur. Toute'fois, réci- proquement, on peut éviter le déplacement circonférentiel des points de suspension de chaque groupes les uns par rapport aux autres, de sorte que chaque série de points de suspension peut suivre une génératrice du cylindre de four, si l'on donne aux chaînes de chaque groupe des longueurs qui augmen- tent à mesure qu'on se rapproche de l'extrémité de sortie du four, parce que;

ROTARY OVENS IMPROVEMENTS.
In rotary kilns for the calcination of raw materials in the paste state, such as cement paste, it is known to suspend within the inlet end of the kiln a network of chains which on a certain length of the furnace chamber, fill this chamber to a certain extent, but in such a way that the smoke can pass through this network? which promotes heat transfer from the smoke to the dough; when the chains are in contact with the smoke, they borrow heat from it. Then, when they are immersed in the dough during part of the rotation of the oven, they give the dough the heat borrowed from the smoke.
However, experience has shown that
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the forward movement of the partially dried dough (which is very sticky in this state) can present difficulties in the part of the oven which is provided with such chain devices.
The object of the present invention is to overcome these difficulties and consists in arranging the suspended chains in such a way that, during the rotation of the furnace, these chains contribute positively to advancing the material within the interior of the furnace chamber.
According to the present invention, this object is achieved by the application of a series of chains having the same or almost the same length, each suspended freely between two points of the internal wall of the furnace tube and arranged in groups, the two series of suspension points of each group being so arranged, with respect to each other, that, during the lifting movement of the chains of the group, these chains form a left surface which does not interfere the chains of other groups, and that, when these chains emerge from the dough, their by-. Lower tie tilts toward the outlet end of the oven.
Thanks to this arrangement, due to the rotation of the oven, when the chains of each group emerge from the dough, they behave like a bucket which draws the material from the lower part of the oven and forces this material to advance. in the oven when she leaves the group. In addition, in a previous position of the group, i.e. when the latter rests on the bottom of the oven, the group pushes the dough forward in the direction of movement, since the entire chain group is subjected to such movement, advance in the furnace between the points of suspension.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The drawing shows an embodiment of such a chain device.
Fig.l is a cross section of the following furnace tube 1-1 (fig.2).
Fig. 2 shows a fragment of the furnace tube, part in plan and part in horizontal section.
In this construction :, each group is supposed to have five chains, and the drawing represents three groups of chains a, b and ±. The chains here have the same length and their suspension points are displaced relative to each other in a double manner in the oven cavity.
In the first place the two series of suspension points belonging to each individual group are displaced with respect to each other not only in a circumferential direction but also in an axial direction, as shown in the drawing in which three series of ellipses are marked with d, e and! and secondly, the various suspension points belonging to each series are similarly displaced relative to each other, both in the circumferential direction and in the axial direction.
In other words :, each series of suspension points, 9 for example the series e, is arranged along a helical line, and the individual ery of suspension points are located on another helical line with single or multiple thread, depending on the case.
In the position of the furnace tube and the groups of chains shown in the drawing, two of the groups, namely a and b, each form a curtain hanging freely and suspended at d and e and at e and f respectively. We see that the curtain a located on the downward side of the oven tilts in its lower part towards the rear of the oven, that is to say towards the end of the oven through which the material enters, while the curtain b located on the upright side of the oven tilts
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in its lower part towards the front of the furnace, that is to say in the direction of movement of the material, the direction of rotation of the furnace being indicated by an arrow in fig.l and the direction of movement of the material being indicated by an arrow in fig,
2. In the position shown, lie curtain ±. just emerged from the dough resting on the bottom of the oven / and thus lifted part of the dough @ resting on the chains, when this curtain receives the shape of fig.l, in which its lower part tilts towards the before in the oven, it allows the elevated material to descend by sliding towards the bottom of the oven, so that at the same time the material advances a certain distance when it leaves the chains. No effect is produced in the opposite direction during the downward movement of the curtain a.
If we finally consider the group of chains resting 'at the time envisaged on the bottom of the furnace, that is to say the group c, each of the chains of which tended to deposit approximately along a helical line when the curtain has was descending to its lowest position, it is easy to see.
that when this group c rises during the rotational movement of the suspension points f in the direction of the arrow in fig.l and moves away from the bottom of the furnace, so that it hangs freely in the space of the furnace, the chains of this group c advance in the direction of movement of the material, and therefore in the direction of the arrow in fig. 2, so that the group drives forward , along the bottom of the oven, the material in front of it,
Obviously, the mentioned effect will also occur when the three sets of ellipsis d,
e and f will not be displaced with respect to each other in the longitudinal direction of the furnace but will be located at the same distance from the ends of the furnace.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
such that a single cross section will contain three of the strings a, b and ±. In fact, the particular shape previously described of the groups, namely the left surface shape of which the lower part slopes towards the outlet end of the furnace on the rising side of said furnace, will also be produced by such an arrangement. hanging chains.
On the other hand, it will be necessary to move the suspension points belonging to each individual series d, e, f both in the axial direction and in the circumferential direction if the desired effect is to be produced by chains of the same length. . However, conversely, the circumferential displacement of the suspension points of each groups relative to each other can be avoided, so that each series of suspension points can follow a generator of the furnace cylinder, if we make the chains in each group lengths that increase as you get closer to the exit end of the oven, because;
, in this case, the surface of the chains will constitute a similar left surface, the lower part of which tilts towards the exit end of the oven, as shown in fig.lo
It emerges from the foregoing that it is possible to combine the described arrangements of the chains:, namely by varying the length of the chains to a certain extent, even in the case where their points of suspension follow helical lines. If, in such an arrangement, the lengths of the chains of each group increase somewhat as one approaches the exit end of the furnace, the transport effect of the chains will be increased.
