<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Improvements made to sowing machines.
-this invention relates to sowing machines of the type described by the main patent and more particularly to the device for controlling the change of rotation of the shafts of the distributing valves and of the distribution pallets, in which use is made of a part made of cast iron or lever which can pivot freely on an are of the rocket support and which itself carries an axis around which can pivot a second cast iron part provided with a handle and a lug which slides in a groove of the first cast iron piece.
It has been observed that these cast iron parts, of particular shape, and which have complicated openings and contours, were of a particularly delicate and difficult manufacture and that the assembly of these parts with the levers and the gears
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
was long and complicated.
The present invention relates to modifications and improvements made to this control device with the aim of overcoming these drawbacks.
For this purpose, it is characterized in that the gear 'normally engaged with the toothed pinion mounted on the stub axle or axis of rotation of the wheels of the sowing machine is carried by a lever which pivots. around one of its ends on a fixed support and which carries, on the one hand, a second gear in mesh with the first, and on the other hand, a small axis or journal on which is mounted a second lever, the 'free end of one or the other of these levers can be fixed by any suitable means at the end of the control lever. sowing machine.
In the practical embodiment of the invention, the end of the machine control lever is engaged in a guide which can be pivoted about a point on the coulter of the sowing machine.
Depending on whether one or the other of the levers is attached to this end, the gear normally engaged with the toothed pinion mounted on the stub axle or the second gear carried by the lever on which the first is mounted. gear, and which is constantly in engagement with this first gear, will be brought into contact with the gear mounted on the shaft of the distributor valves and will impart to this shaft a rotational movement in one direction or the other.
The accompanying drawings give, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. is a schematic side elevational view of the valve and distributor paddle control mechanism in its disengaged position and indicates in phantom * how the engagement is effected for rotation in one direction of the shaft pallets.
FIG. 2 is a view identical to FIG. 1 centering the arrangement of the members for the rotation 'in the opposite direction of the distribution pallets.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In these figures, 1 is the frame of the seeder which carries in a bearing 2 a shaft 5 on which the wheels of the vehicle are mounted. On this shaft is also mounted a toothed pinion 4 which participates in the rotation of these wheels. The shafts 5 and 6 are respectively those of the distribution valves and of the distribution pallets of the sowing machine and these two shafts are connected to one otter by the gear 7 mounted on the shaft 5, in engagement with the gear 8. attached to 1 ') shaft 6 Two identical gears normally in mesh are wedged on shafts 5 and 6 immediately behind gears 7 and 8.
The gear 7 can optionally be replaced by a second gear 9 (see FIG. 2) of larger diameter, afi to modify the speed of rotation of the dispensing valves as will be explained later. The device for transmitting the rotational movement of the wheels of the seed drill to the shafts of the distributor valves and of the paddles consists of a free rotating gear 10. ment on a shaft 11 carried by a part 12 in the form of a lever which pivots around a shaft end 13 carried by a bearing 14 fixed to the frame 1 of the sowing machine.
This lever 12 itself carries two journals 15 and 16 and has at its end a slide 17 The journal 15 carries a pinion 18 normally engaged with the gear 10 and to which is attached a second pinion 19 which may optionally be brought into contact. with gear 9 arranged on axis 5 in place of gear 7.
To this end, 1'engrange 9 has a socket projecting in its axis which abuts against the gear fixed on the shaft 5 so that the gear 9 is in the plane of the pinion 19 with which it is engaged. There is therefore no contact between gears 8 and 9 and the two, shafts 5 and 6 are then connected only by the two meshes.
Its wedged directly on them. On the other hand, to the journal 16 is articulated a bra 20 connected to an attachment point of the end of the control lever 21 by a threaded rod 22 actuated by a handwheel 23.
This end of the control lever 21 is formed of a solid part or head 24-1 ,, / which can move in
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a slide 25. The head 24 is pierced with two threaded openings. One of these receives the threaded rod 22 for fixing the arm 20, while the other opening 26 is intended to fix the end of the lever 12, as will be seen below.
On the other hand, the slide 25 is provided with an axis 27 which pivots in a bearing 28 fixed to the frame 1 of the sowing machine. Finally, a stop 29 groove 30 fixed to the frame 1 is intended to wedge the control lever. the device thus constructed, functions as follows:
Depending on the species of seeds to be sown, it may be advantageous for the shaft 5 of the distributor valves to be able to turn in one direction or the other. the direction of travel of the vehicle being determined by the arrow 31, a traction exerted on the lever 21 in the direction indicated by the arrow 32, while the end of the arm 20 is fixed to the head 24 of the control lever and that the The end of the lever 12 is free (see fig. 1), determines a raising of the lever 21 and a lowering of the lever 12 which pivots around the shaft 13.
by this movement, the gear 10 rolls on the toothed pinion 4 and engages the gear 7 which is set in rotation and which communicates to the gear 8 and to the shaft 5 of the distribution valves, a rotational movement in the direction of arrow 3 to obtain the reverse rotational movement of the shaft 5 and of the gear 7, the arm 20 is detached from the head 24 and made free, while the lever 12 is fixed in the opening / of this head by means of the screw 22 passed through the slide 17 located at the end of this lever 12 (see fig. 2).
The traction exerted on the lever 21 in the same direction as before, 0 'is to say in the direction of the raising of this lever according to the arrow 32 has the effect of bringing in contact with the gear 7 the pinion 18 still in contact with the toothed wheel $ 0 and which is driven by a rotational movement by this wheel 10 As a result of this contacting, the gear 7 is put / in rotation by the pinion 18 in the direction indicated by the arrow 34 (fig. .2) movement in

The disengaged position of the mechanism corresponds to the lowered position of the control lever 21 which is fixed to this position by the stopper 29 in the groove 30 during the travel stages in which the sowing machine must not work.
