<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Grinding machine.
The present invention relates to a grinding machine particularly suitable for grinding files and in which the part to be grinded and a rotating grinding wheel undergo relative displacement between them in order to carry out the grinding.
The present invention provides that the movement of the movable part is effected by engaging it with one of the strands of an endless chain arranged parallel to the direction of movement.
According to the invention, the workpiece to be ground is placed on a workpiece carriage moving in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the grinding wheel. The engagement with one or the other strand is effected by means of movable fingers integral with the workpiece carriage and coming to engage alternately with each of the strands, the said engagement being able to be carried out automatically, for example by two stops. fixed whose distance between them can be adjusted.
In order to regularize the rectified surfaces, the invention provides for the part to be held on a table secured to the part-holder carriage and to receive its longitudinal movement.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
thereof and a transverse reciprocating movement is communicated to said table for example by sinuous guides against which said table is supported by means of rollers.
In the same vein, the invention provides for the contact pressure between the grinding wheel and the workpiece to be kept substantially constant, for example by means of springs transmitting the pressure acting on the table to the carriage.
In the case where it is a question of grinding cylindrical or conical surfaces, the invention provides that the part to be ground undergoes an oscillating movement about an axis coinciding with the axis of the cylinder or of the cone whose radii d 'oscillations at the ends can be varied separately or. simultaneously, the grinding wheel being able in this case to be disposed obliquely or perpendicularly to said axis.
According to the invention this oscillating movement is produced by using an alternating transverse motion as specified above and transforming this reciprocating rectilinear motion into a reciprocating circular motion.
The accompanying drawings indicate by way of example and without limitation two embodiments of the invention.
This extends to the various original features contained in the provisions represented.
FIG. 1 represents an overall view of a grinding machine according to the invention.
FIG. 2 represents a view of a portable workpiece trolley adaptable to the machine of FIG. 1 and allowing
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
grinding along cylindrical or conical surfaces.
In the case of fig.l, the part to be rectified, constituted by way of example by a file 2, is placed on suitable supports 2a integral with the plate 3d of a 'workpiece carrier 3.'
In order to standardize the contact pressure between the file 2 and a grinding wheel 4 rotating in the direction of arrow X, coil springs such as 3b are arranged between the plate 3d on which the table 3a rests and the carriage 3; the connection in the direction of drive, between said table and the carriage is obtained by parts 3c secured to the table and engaging in desouvert-aresappropriées provided in the carriage.
The forward or backward movement of the carriage 3 is obtained by securing this carriage to one or the other of the strands of an endless chain 5 receiving its movement from the shaft of the grinding wheel 4 or from the main transmission not figured.
The clutch is done by means of a lever 6 articulated on the carriage and causing by its movement the engagement of one or the other of the fingers 6a in a link of the chain 5.
The clutch can be controlled either by hand by a handle 6b or automatically after a determined stroke thanks to the stop s 6c and 6d adjustable along a rod 6f causing the lowering or raising of the arm 6e of the lever 6.
The plate 3d also undergoes during its displacement an alternating transverse movement caused by sinuous guides 11 against which the rollers lla integral with the plate 3d come to rest.
The truck is guided during its movement, in
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
appropriate guides of the frame 7 of the apparatus.
The bearings 4b in which the axis 4a of the grinding wheel rotates are fixed on a support 8 sliding along two uprights 8a of the frame. The position of this support is variable along said uprights; this movement of the support can be rapid by acting on a lever 9 pivoted on the one hand on said support by the intermediary of arms 9a and 9b between which is interposed a spring 9c serving as a shock absorber.
If one wants to operate a slow movement, for example for precision work, one blocks along (one of the uprights a part 10 in which is screwed a part 10a integral with the support 8, the rotation of this screw 10a being controlled by a wheel 10b.
It goes without saying that the invention also applies to the case where the workpiece to be ground undergoes only the longitudinal movement and where the grinding wheel undergoes transverse displacements caused by drawing guides such as 11 moving either with the carriage or in any way the connection between the aforementioned guides and the grinding wheel can be effected by a part in the form of a caliper.
In the case of FIG. 2, the transverse displacements of the plate 3d are used with a view to producing an oscillating movement on the part to be ground. To this end, a lever 12 supporting the part 2 is pivoted on the plate 3d; its end is guided by the table 3a.
Another lever, not shown and similar to said lever 12, supports part 2 by its other end.
In the case where one wants to complete along a cylindrical surface the oscillation radii counted at
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
from the axis of articulation desleviers such as 12 to the surface to be completed are equal.
In the case of following completion of conical surfaces, these oscillation radii are different.
The levers such as 12 allow the oscillation radii to be adjusted, for example by unrepresented by desmeans, the length of the branch 12b.
In order to regularize the finishing along such curved surfaces and to prevent the grinding wheel from always acting in the same places, leaving unfinished parts, the invention provides for moving the sinuous guides in the direction of movement of the carriage, this movement of the guides that can be done by hand or automatically. for example by a ratchet wheel.
