<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

", ..... 0Ul 'cool the walls of the ingot molds, when the molten metal has been poured therein, it is known to provide these walls with cooling fins or indentations, but these ingot molds do not meet their intended purpose in any way. because the thickness of their walls is thus increased in relation to the usual thickness of the linens and the heat passes through them with difficulty.
The present invention relates, for the same purpose, to the opposite process, namely that the thickness of the walls is greatly reduced at the places or zones where there is the maximum amount of heat to be evacuated, and advantageously in that the the remaining wall thickness is inversely proportional to the amount of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
heat to be evacuated through the said walls in the places envisaged *
In addition, according to the present invention, the ingot mold retains its original solidity, the thinned walls of the ingot mold can be provided with or can form reinforcements, these reinforcements advantageously having a profile opposite to that of the recesses formed by the thinning in question of the walls of the mold,
profile which, for example, gives the reinforcements the form of a solid of equal strength *
In addition to the advantages from the point of view of cooling the ingot mold which allows its good conservation, the object of the present invention makes it possible to make the ingot molds considerably lighter and cheaper than hitherto and to make them. steel, thus considerably increasing their duration.
The present invention applies with great advantage to all types of ingot molds or molds of the species in general, especially to high capacity ingots and it is applied in a particularly advantageous manner to so-called slab ingots serving. obtaining ingots for the manufacture of sheets
The accompanying drawings show by way of example two embodiments of an ingot mold according to the present invention.
Fig * I shows a vertical section along A-B figure 2 in a first embodiment *
Fig.2 shows a horizontal section along C-D fig.I.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of a second embodiment.
Fig. 4 represents a horizontal section along E-F fig. 3
Fig.5 shows a vertical section along C-H fig.4.
Referring to Figs. I and 1 should first of all be noted that the maximum heat evacuated by the walls
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
EMI3.1
of the mold must be made approximately in zone O-D fig.I and in zones A-14 and a-b fig.2, since the heat dissipation through the walls of the mold at the upper part of this dexterity will be. less, on the one hand because of the proximity of the upper opening of the mold and, on the other hand, due to the decreasing quantity of molten material,
EMI3.2
it will also be less in the 4nfdrïeura part of the ingot t, ièrl because of the proximity of the plate supporting the l3ngop tière and it will also be less at the angles,
due to
EMI3.3
bringing together the neighboring walls of the mold.
Given the above, the walls 1 of the ingot have an ornament to the present invention a section which becomes weaker and weaker at the end and as it nears the so-called middle zone 0 D, A Bab aforementioned *
This is advantageously obtained by the fact that the outer faces of the walls 1. Mount made concave or re-entrant according to appropriate curvatures or straight lines, as oeoi is, shown by way of example in% in Figures I and 2.
EMI3.4
ln IF relating to Figure $ 3, and 5 parai.a 1 of the mold, hollowed out or thinned oame described above, form reinforcements 4. These reinforcements may have a shape, and may
EMI3.5
$ tre .. arranged and distributed in any way VOulua.
O # l- forming the embodiment shown in Figures 3 to. 5, these reinforcements po8sède a section which is so to speak in. pour glue from the walls. of the ingotiere, by presenting a height which increases proportionally, or approximately, to the depth of the cavities.
It is easy to see that in an ingot mold according to the pre-
EMI3.6
feeling invention 1. 'amm9issemt. of the walls of the mold, described above, will have the effect that the evacuation of
EMI3.7
heat by the walls of the ingot1 "8. 'will effect the most ra, w pigment there, where it An at. the maximum heat to be evacuated by the walls, and that thanks to the reinforcements the solidity of the ingot mold
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
will not be diminished.
It is obvious that the object of the present invention is made up of a large number of variants of execution without deviating from the object itself of the present invention described above.
CLAIMS
I) Ingot mold, characterized in that its walls are amin- glas so as to have a minimum thickness at the places where it is a question of evacuating the maximum heat through said walls.
2) Ingot mold according to claim I, characterized in that its walls have cavities on their outer faces, the depth of which is inversely proportional to the quantity of heat to be evacuated at the places given by said walls,
