<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Metal sleeper for railway and element for its realization.
To form metal sleepers, U-shaped or trough-shaped profile bars are generally used.
The study of the pressure distribution under a sleeper placed on ballast from the point of view of the stability of the track indicates that the tamping cannot be done under the middle of the sleeper so as not to cause the track to tilt. .
It is easily understood that it is very difficult to perform a tamping being limited exactly to the parts located under the cross member in line with the rails to the exclusion of the part located under the middle of the cross member.
The present invention relates to a cross member and to an element for its production which makes it possible to overcome these difficulties.
The sleeper produced according to the invention comprises elements in the form of partitions located on the underside of the sleeper in the part between the rails and opposing during jamming to the displacement of the ballest transversely towards the axis of the track. .
The device thus designed avoids reported faults

higher and by limiting exactly where the stuffing has to be done, it saves on the quantity of ballast used.
In addition, the use of sleepers designed according to the invention increases the lateral stability of the track in the sense that the partitions fixed to the lower part of the sleeper form spades ensuring the distribution over a greater mass of ballast of the transverse forces. suffered by the track, especially in curves.
The appended drawings indicate by way of example and not by way of limitation an embodiment of the invention.
This extends to the various original features included in the arrangement shown.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an element in the form of a partition intended to be assembled by keys to the cross member.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a cross member fragment comprising, assembled by keys, an element such as that shown in FIG. 1.
The plate 2 shown in fig.l marries with a certain clearance the transverse profile 3 of a metal cross member 4 (fig.2).
The plate 2 has at its ends two notches 2a and 2b in which the wings 4a and 4b of the crossmember engage.
The end parts 2d and 2e of the plate 2 are provided inside the notches 2a and 2b with hollows 2f, 2g at the bottom of which come to rest the keys 5a and 5b (fig. 2) ensuring the connection of the plate 2 to the cross 4.

Figure 2 clearly shows that during tamping, the ballast driven under the crosspiece in line with the rail between end 4a and partition 2 will be stopped by partition 2 and cannot flow towards the axis of the track. . In addition, bulkheads such as 2 will prevent lateral de-leveraging of the track.
It goes without saying that without going beyond the limits of the invention, the elements such as 2 could be assembled to the sleepers by any other means such as bolting, riveting, welding, etc.
CLAIMS.
1. Metal sleeper for railway, charac- terized in that its lower face is provided with partitions arranged transversely and intended to prevent during the jamming the flow of ballast towards the axis of the track and to oppose the "slipping" of the track during operation.
