Claims (4)

  1. Device for connecting together horizontally two pieces (31, 32) which are extended horizontally and disposed in the prolongation of one another, the said device comprising an intermediate length (30) having a profile similar to that of the two pieces and mounted for smooth sliding between the said two pieces in such a way as to maintain the continuity of the connection while at the same time permitting variations in the mutual gap between the two pieces, characterised in that it comprises a first block (5) intended to be rendered integral with one of the pieces (31), a second block (6) intended to be rendered integral with the other piece (32), a traction-resistant reinforcement (10) passing through the two blocks, means (11) for permanently anchoring one end of the reinforcement on the first block in respect of its tensile stresses in the direction of the second block, a truncated cone-shaped anchoring device (15) with cotters which is contained in the second block and surrounds a portion of the reinforcement in such a way as to be able to anchor the said reinforcement on the said second block wich regard to its tensile stresses in the direction of the first block, a device (16-19) with a spring, which device is carried by the second block and axially stresses the cotters in the direction (G) in respect of which they release the reinforcement, a rod (102) prolonging the reinforcement beyond the second block, which rod is rendered integral with a piston (20), a cylindrical pot (21) surrounding that portion of the rod which comprises the piston in such a way that the said piston divides the interior of the said pot into two leak-proof compartments connected together by a constricted passage (22) level with the said piston, a mass of incompressible and slowly deformable material filling the two compartments of the pot and the constricted passage, a sleeve (27) integral with the pot and interposed axially between the latter and the widened base of the cotters (15) and a collar (29) which is integral with the second block and is adapted to cooperate with the sleeve (27) in such a way as to keep it, when at rest, in its position which is axially juxtaposed against the cotters.
  2. Connecting device according to claim 1, characterised in that the reinforcement is constituted by a strand (10) which is itself made up of a bundle of metal plies (101) surrounding a central metal ply (102), and in that the rod is constituted by a prolongation of the single central ply of the said strand, the peripheral plies (101) of the latter being interrupted level with the sleeve (27).
  3. Connecting device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the device with a spring comprises a helicoidal compression spring (16) surrounding that portion of the reinforcement which is disposed an that entrance to the second block (6) which is disposed on the same side as the first block (5), a cylindrical case (17) integral with the said second block and surrounding the said spring, and a shouldered socket (19) interposed axially between the spring and the narrow ends of the cotters (15).
  4. Connecting device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the pieces to be connected are two lengths of rail (31, 32) constituted by hollow profiles, and in that the blocks (5, 6) are fixed, in particular by screwing, inside the relevant ends of the said two lengths.
