Roll-up curtain device
The present invention relates to a curtain, having flexible side edges, which can be wound and unwind between a closed position and an open position.
This is a curtain which comprises on each of its faces near its side edges a belt, these two belts, having teeth, being located opposite one another so as to be able to mesh with each other when winding the curtain.
It is important that, during the unwinding of the curtain, it is possible to exert on it a direction parallel to its lateral edges a sufficiently large force.
For some applications, it must be possible to exert a thrust force on the lateral edges of the curtain in their longitudinal direction during winding of the curtain.
Thus, one of the essential aims of the present invention is to propose a very effective solution to this problem, even for curtains having to move at very high speeds.
For this purpose, according to the invention, at least one of these belts comprises teeth having at least one recess in which at least one part of the teeth of the other belt can engage in such a way as to be able to hook the two belts to one another and to allow one of these belts to push on the other belt in the direction of their length to move the curtain as it moves from its open position to its closed position or during its winding .
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the two aforementioned belts are notched and have teeth in the form of sawtooth.
According to an interesting embodiment of the invention, the two aforementioned belts are notched and have teeth having the shape of crampons.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description given below, by way of nonlimiting examples, of several particular embodiments of a roll-up curtain device, according to the invention, with reference to FIGS. annexed figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the side edge of a curtain of a device, according to a first embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of a portion of the curtain of this first embodiment in a wound position. Figure 3 is a longitudinal section at the belts of a curled portion of a curtain according to a second particular embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of part of the lateral edge of the curtain of FIG.
Figure 5 is a perspective view similar to that of Figure 4 of a portion of the side edge of a curtain, according to a variant of the device according to the invention.
Figure 6 shows very schematically a cross section of a first application of the curtain device, according to the invention, mounted in front of a bay.
Figure 7 very schematically shows a cross section of a second application of the curtain device, according to the invention, mounted in front of a bay.
In the different figures, the same reference numerals refer to similar or identical elements.
In general, the invention relates to a roll-up curtain device intended for closing a bay or any other opening, such as a door or window bay, of the loading volume of a vehicle, such as a truck or boat,
swimming pool, etc. The aforementioned curtain has side edges which are preferably made of a flexible material. This curtain is p.e. formed by a tarpaulin, a net, a succession of lamellae hinged to each other extending perpendicularly to its direction of travel and laterally edged by a flexible zone provided with toothed belts, etc.
This device is characterized in that at least one of these belts comprises teeth having at least one hollow in which at least a portion of the teeth of the other belt can engage in such a way as to be able to hook the two belts to one another and to allow one of these belts to push on the other belt in the direction of their length to move the curtain as it unfolds from its open position to its closed position. During this unwinding, the belts do not break in the wound portion of the curtain so that the successive turns of this wound portion remain fixed to each other.
The belts only come off at the point where the curtain moves from the wound state to the unwound state.
Figures 1 and 2 relate to a first embodiment of the device according to the invention.
In this embodiment, there is shown a portion of a curtain 1 which on each of its faces is fixed a toothed belt 2 and 3. These belts 2 and 3 are located at the lateral edge 4 of the curtain 1 facing one of the other so as to be able to mesh with each other during the winding of the curtain 1, as shown in Figure 2 where the curtain 1 is wound on a drum 7. The drum 7 is preferably formed by a cylinder whose width corresponds to the width of the curtain 1.
In this embodiment the teeth 5 and 6 of these belts 2 and 3 have the appearance of crampons.
Thus, these teeth 5 and 6 have a recess 8, respectively 9, and a projecting portion 10, respectively 1 1. The projections 10 and 11 of the teeth 5 and 6 overhang the corresponding recesses 8 and 9 of these teeth in the longitudinal direction belts 2 and 3.
The shape of these recesses 8, 9 and protruding portions 10, 11 is such that the projecting portion 10 of the teeth 5 of one of the belts 2 can mesh with and hook into the recess 9 of the teeth 6 of the other belt 3 and vice versa when winding the curtain 1.
The teeth 5 and 6 preferably have an identical shape,
while the protruding part of the teeth 5 is oriented in a direction opposite to that of the teeth 6.
This is also the case for the distance between two consecutive teeth 5 which is adapted to that between the teeth 6, in particular the notches 12 provided between these teeth.
Figure 3 relates to a second embodiment which differs from that of Figures 1 and 2 by the shape of the teeth. Indeed, in Figure 3, the teeth 5 and 6, separated by notches 12, have a section in the longitudinal direction of the belts 2 and 3 having a trapezoidal shape.
In this way, these teeth have a transverse face inclined at a sharp angle ([alpha]) and also form crampons having substantially the same function as in the first embodiment.
The sharp angle ([alpha]) is preferably between 10 [deg.] And 40 [deg.] And is advantageously of the order of 20 [deg.]. More specifically, in Figure 3, the teeth 5 and 6 have, in particular, a section in the longitudinal direction of the belts 2 and 3 having the appearance of a parallelogram. The sharp angle ([alpha]) is, in particular, chosen so as to prevent the ends or the protruding parts 10 and 11 of a belt 2 from rubbing against the projecting parts of the other belt 3 during unwinding or curtain winding 1.
Thus, it is avoided that these projecting portions 10 and 11 of the teeth 5 and 6 become deformed or damaged where the unwound part of the curtain 1 is in contact with the wound portion thereof.
The inclination of the teeth 5 of the belt 2 is opposed to that of the teeth 6 of the belt 3 to allow the teeth of the belt 3 to rest against the teeth 5 of the belt 2 during the unwinding of the flap, as indicated by the arrow 13.
The width has notches 12, in the direction of the length of the belts 2 and 3 is greater than the corresponding width b of the teeth 5 and 6.
This has the advantage that it prevents particles of material, such as dust, can accumulate in these cuts 12 and interfere with the meshing of the teeth 5 and 6.
In particular, by the presence of a free space in these notches 12 between the teeth 5 and 6, it is found that such particles of material are automatically removed from the notches 12 during the meshing of the belts 2 and 3. one with the other.
In a first variant of the device according to the invention, not shown, the teeth have a plane of symmetry perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the belts, so that a recess and a projection are provided on opposite sides of the teeth in this longitudinal direction. Thus, we obtain a double hooking between the teeth of one belt and those of the other belt.
In another variant of the device according to the invention as shown in Figure 5, the width has notches 12 at the base thereof and in the direction of the length of the belts 2 and 3 substantially corresponds to the corresponding width b of teeth 5 and 6. Thus, the teeth 5 and 6 are hooked into the corresponding notches 12 which is relatively solid, in comparison with the previous embodiments, since the teeth 5 and 6 are clamped in these teeth. last when winding the curtain.
The teeth 5 and 6 of the belts 2 and 3 have a lateral face which extends substantially perpendicularly with respect to the longitudinal direction of the belts and an opposite face which is inclined at a sharp angle ([alpha]), for example of the order of 20 [deg.], relative to this direction.
Consequently, the teeth 5 and 6 have a section having a trapezoidal shape in the longitudinal direction of the belts 2 and 3.
In Figure 6 a first very interesting application of the curtain device according to the invention is shown. In this application the curtain device is mounted opposite a bay 14 provided in a wall 15.
The device cooperates with a drive drum 16 which is formed by a cylinder whose width substantially corresponds to the width of the curtain 1 and whose ends are provided with a succession of teeth 17 extending along its peripheral.
Opposite this drive drum 16 is mounted a winding drum 7 so that the driving drum 16 is located between the bay 14 or the wall 15 and the drum 7.
As shown in Figure 6,
the curtain 1 extends opposite the bay 14 and is then guided over part of the periphery of the drive drum 16. From this drive drum 16 the curtain 1 is directed towards the drum 7 around which it is wound to bring it into its open position.
The lateral edges of the curtain 1 are, for example, provided with toothed belts 2 and 3, as shown in FIG. 4, and cooperate with the teeth 17 of the drive drum 16. In particular, the teeth 5 of the belt 2 which is oriented towards the driving drum 16 meshes with the teeth 17 of the drum 16. Thus, when the driving drum 16 is set in motion by, for example, a motor not shown in FIG. curtain 1 moves to its open position or its closed position.
For the clarity of Figure 6, which is a schematic representation, the belts 2 and 3 have not been shown.
When moving the curtain 1 to its open position the drum 16 is driven in the direction of the arrow 18 so that a pushing force is exerted on the side edges of the curtain 1, in particular on the belt 2 according to its longitudinal direction. Thus, the winding drum 7, which can rotate freely about its central axis 20, is also driven, so that the curtain 1 is wrapped around this drum 7.
Thanks to the fact that the teeth of the two belts 2 and 3, provided on both sides of the curtain 1, mesh, the successive turns of the part of the curtain 1 which is wound around the winding drum 7 are fixed one to the other and form a compact roller.
This allows the winding drum 7 to be driven about its axis only by the action of the pushing force which is exerted by the side edges of the curtain 1. In FIG. 7, a second application of the curtain device, following the invention is shown. This device comprises a winding drum 7 which is driven around its axis by a motor not shown. The drum 7 is mounted facing a wall 15 above a bay 14 so that the latter can be closed by the unwinding of the curtain 1.
The curtain 1 is provided at its side edges with belts as shown, for example, in Figure 1 or Figure 4.
Thus, the successive turns of the roll formed by the part of the curtain 1 which is wound around the drum 7 are fixed to one another by the engagement of the teeth 5 and 6 of the corresponding belts 2 and 3. During the unwinding of the curtain 1 towards its closed position, the successive turns remain attached to one another until the curtain 1 emerges from the roller and moves approximately vertically facing the wall 15 and from the bay 14.
This is particularly important when the side edges of the curtain 1 are guided by slides provided on either side of the bay 14.
In such a case a thrust force is exerted by the drum 7 on the lateral edges of the curtain in the longitudinal direction of the latter to overcome the friction forces in the slides. It is clear that when the successive turns of the roll are not fixed to each other this is not possible.
As in Figure 6, the belts 2 and 3 have also not been shown in Figure 7.
It is understood that the present invention is not limited to the various embodiments described above and some of which have been shown in the accompanying drawings but that many other variants can be envisaged without departing from the scope of this invention.
Thus, the shape of the teeth and in particular means for hooking the teeth of one belt to those of the other belt can vary within wide limits.
