<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Lock system for cross bit key".
The invention relates to a key lock system with cross bit, in which the key has four wings which are arranged substantially at right angles to each other and in which the channel for the key has channel parts corresponding to the wings and one of the channel parts has a width which is greater than the width of the other channel parts. Such cross bit key lock systems are generally known in the art.
If keys are lost, it is obvious that these keys must be re-made afterwards. In addition, it also appears that, also for various reasons, keys are reproduced and that consequently a large number of keys can exist and the possibility of having an overview on who has authorized a key becomes always more low.
To be able to carry out certain limitations, it would be possible to use new cylinders and with that new keys. The owners of the old keys could no longer enter the new spaces thus insured. Furthermore, it is conceivable that only a part of the spaces would be provided with new cylinders, that is to say that the authorization of access would be given to the persons who have the new keys. However, these people could not enter the spaces provided by the old cylinders, that is to say that they should carry two different keys with them.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The object of the present invention is to avoid these drawbacks and to develop a lock system for a cross bit key which allows the owner of a new key to activate not only the new locking cylinder but also the old one. .
This problem is solved according to the invention by the fact that the wing corresponding to the channel part which is wider has a profile and by the fact that the wider channel part does not have profiling or a corresponding profiling.
The profile can be made paracentric.
The basis of the invention lies in the fact that, with the system according to the invention, it is possible, for example, to provide spaces for which the wider channel part of the closing cylinder has profiling. In this cylinder we can then introduce a cross bit key which also has a profiling in the corresponding wing. Furthermore, with this key, where the wing corresponding to the wider channel part has a profile, it is also possible to actuate a closing cylinder where the wider channel does not have profiling, and therefore has a smooth wall.
Consequently an owner of a profiled key in the sense of the invention can actuate not only a correspondingly shaped closing cylinder but also a cylinder which does not have profiling but where obviously the width of the wider channel part corresponds to the overall width of the profiled wing of the key.
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to Figures 1 to 4.
These figures represent simplified sections through the key and respectively the closing cylinder presenting the channel for the key.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In FIG. 1, the channel for the key is indicated by the reference 6. The closing cylinder or cylindrical core, in which this channel for the key is housed, is not shown since this is generally known. The channel for the key has a total of four channel parts which have been designated by the references 7,8, 9 and 10. The channel part 10 has, as can be seen in the drawings, a total width more larger than the channel parts 7, 8 and 9. In addition, in FIG. 1, this channel part 10 is provided with profiling.
If we now consider the cross section through the corresponding key, such as that shown in Figure 2, the wings of the key 2, 3 and 4 are correspondingly of width less than the profiled wing 5. A actuation of the locking cylinder with this key is therefore possible.
Taking into account the problem posed at the start, it is however now also possible to shape the locking cylinder so that the channel for the key again has the channel parts 7, 8 and 9 and a wider channel part 10 'corresponding, it does not however have profiling. The overall width of this channel part 10 is granted to the overall width of the profiled wing 5 of the key.
If we start from an "old" installation, therefore with closing cylinders in the sense of FIG. 3, the overall width of the profiled wing 5 corresponds inversely to the width of the non-profiled channel part 10 ′. It is then visible without more that the key according to FIG. 2 can be inserted not only in the channel for the key conforming to FIG. 1, but also in that conforming to FIG. 3. The owner of this key can therefore operate the two systems and only needs one key for this.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Furthermore, a key like that shown in Figure 4 belongs to a locking cylinder corresponding to Figure 3. Here, the wings 2,3 and 4 are also present as well as the wing 5 ', which however is not streamlined. The overall width of this wing 5 ′ obviously corresponds to the overall width of the channel part 10 ′. Certainly with this key the lock according to FIG. 3 can be actuated, but not that according to FIG. 1. Thus, by the solution according to the invention, a considerable simplification has been brought in the direction of the problem posed.
It should be understood that other embodiments of the present invention may be provided and that many modifications and variations may be made thereto without departing from the scope of the claims.
