<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

PART FOR FIXING A HARDWARE IN A PROFILE
WINDOW OPENING
The present invention relates to a fastening piece of a metal fitting on a hollow or tubular profile of a metal carpentry, more particularly of a window opening or a door leaf, consisting of a flat provided with tapped holes arranged in line along the longitudinal axis and two lateral tabs intended to be housed below each of the re-entrant edges of the groove, so as to guide and secure the flat part in the groove, and the sliding of this over the entire length of the groove.
The metal fittings concerned are in particular the so-called European or other hinges and the hinges.
Document CH-A-436020 discloses a plug hinge comprising two complementary cylindrical bodies, respectively fixed to the leaf and the frame of an articulated structure, for example of a window, these bodies being arranged one above the other with a lateral offset such that they have, in the same vertical extension, two cylindrical elements receiving a plug or hinge pin around which the leaf pivots, opposite the frame.
Each body also comprises, secured to the cylindrical element, a fixing lug which is usually pierced with holes for mounting screws which
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
apply and immobilize the body vis-à-vis the surface of the opening or the corresponding frame.
Such a rotation fitting cannot be used in an articulated structure composed of hollow profiles, because it requires the prior drilling of the profiles for the mounting of the fixing screws. This problem was solved by placing a flat in a longitudinal groove with re-entrant edges at one end of the latter. The flat can be placed in any position chosen along the entire length of the profile, because it slides in the groove without being able to escape.
It is immobilized by tightening the threaded elements, which are for example a needle screw engaged in a tapped hole in the flat and locking screws which apply under pressure the fixing lugs of the fitting against the flat and against the opening.
The introduction of a flat in the groove of a hollow profile assembled by recess is however no longer possible once the frame is mounted in the factory. It is then necessary to machine the re-entrant edges of the groove in order to be able to slide the fixing flat (s) there.
The present invention aims to remedy this drawback and relates to a fixing piece which can be put in place in the above-mentioned groove of a hollow profile of a window opening, without requiring the machining of the re-entrant edges of the groove. Such a groove is found in particular along the hollow body of profiles, in particular tubular profiles with thermal bridge or the like similar to those described in document BE-A-1003197.
The present invention relates to a fastener of the type described in the preamble of claim 1 attached.
In order to be able to be introduced into a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
groove with re-entrant edges, the fixing part made up of the aforementioned flat is divided into two complementary parts which overlap one another, the two parts resulting from a notch in stages in the vicinity of the longitudinal edge of the initial flat, set back from a first tab, over a length portion of the initial flat. The two complementary pieces can be of unequal or equal length.
The inviolability and robustness properties of the fittings are kept intact, the invention thus facilitates the mounting or replacement of a hinge by making it possible to introduce a piece of insert into a groove made inaccessible at its ends. , since these form the corners of a frame.
A hinge is composed of a part fixed to the window frame and a mobile part fixed to the opening, hinged to each other around a matted axis. The fixed and movable parts each consist of a blade folded at right angles so as to constitute an angle iron, one wing of which is attached to a cylindrical element of the hinge and the other of which constitutes a fixing lug pierced with holes for mounting. screws or studs which will apply each of the parts of the hinge against the profile of the opening or corresponding frame by means of the flat slid in an outer groove of each of said profiles.
A so-called European hinge also has two parts, one fixed carrying the hinge is fixed to the frame, the other mobile pivoting above the first, is fixed to the opening. These two parts can be separated unlike the hinge with a matted axis.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The fixing piece is provided with at least two tapped holes arranged in line along the longitudinal axis and with two lateral tabs intended to be housed below each of the re-entrant edges of the groove, so as to provide guidance and securing the flat in the groove, and sliding thereof over the entire length of the groove.
According to the invention, the flat part is divided into two complementary component parts which overlap one another and each of which is shown in plan and at the end in FIGS. 3 to 6.
The first part results from a level cut in the vicinity of the longitudinal edge of the protuberance of the flat described above. The notching was done on the almost total height of the flat so as to provide a retaining tab for the complementary piece. Each of the components has an appendage having an S-shaped section. This appendage is formed by a tongue attached to a longitudinal angle cut in a landing from the flat. According to a feature of the invention, each tongue is provided with a strip of transverse ridges on the face opposite to that facing the bottom of the groove. These ridges are intended to strengthen the anchoring of the flat against the inside of the re-entrant edges of the groove.
Once put in place and nested one inside the other, the two constituent parts of the flat form a wedge which has all the characteristics of a wedge consisting of a single piece. The second part forming a rigid assembly which can be slid into the groove and which can be immobilized by means of the locking screw. When the tightening screw is tightened, its end comes into contact with
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the bottom of the groove and pushes the base against the interior surfaces near the edges of the longitudinal slot of the profile.
A non-specialized operator, without the help of special tools, using only a screwdriver and a conventional hexagonal wrench, engage studs and a needle screw in the fitting and in the threaded holes of the first part consisting of a fixing wedge, introduce the said piece individually into the groove, nest the second piece in the first, engage a second stud and tighten each of the studs and the needle screw to firmly lock the fitting on the hollow profile of the opening.
The invention described above in its general form will be better understood on reading the description which follows and on examining the appended drawings, which represent by way of nonlimiting example, a preferred embodiment to which the description which follows refers.
In these drawings: - Figure 1 is an elevational view of a wedge according to the invention consisting of two constituent parts; - Figure 2 is a cross section of the wedge shown in Figure 1; - Figure 3 is an elevational view of a first part consisting of the shim shown in the figure

shown in Figure 5; Figure 7 is a cross section of the appendix of the parts shown in Figures 3 and 5;
Figure 8 is a side elevational view of the fixed part of a so-called European hinge; Figure 9 is an end view of the hinge portion shown in Figure 8; FIG. 10 is a side elevation view of the opening flag of a so-called European hinge, and FIG. 11 is an end view of the flag shown in FIG. 10.
In these figures, the same reference signs designate identical or analogous elements.
As illustrated in FIG. 1, a block 1 for fixing a metal fitting 2 to a hollow section 3 or tubular of a metal carpentry, more particularly a window opening or a door leaf, consisting of a flat 4 provided with three tapped holes 5 arranged in line along the longitudinal axis and two lateral tabs 6, 7 intended to be housed below each of the re-entrant edges 8 of the groove 9, so as to ensure the guiding and securing the flat 4 in the groove 8, and the sliding thereof over the entire length of the groove 9.
According to the invention, this part is divided into two complementary parts 10, 11 of unequal or equal length, which overlap one another, the two parts resulting from a notch in stages in the vicinity of the longitudinal edge of the initial flat 4, set back from a first tongue 6, over a length portion of the initial flat 4.
The first component part is made up of a length portion of the initial flat 4 of
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
length greater than half of said flat 4 and an appendage 12 consisting of the extension of the second tongue 7 and a straight edge 13 of the flat.
The second component part 11 is made up of a flat 14 of width less than the initial flat 4 and of length complementary to that of the length portion of the initial flat of the above-mentioned first part 10, and which has along the notch a third tab 15 of thickness less than the first tab 6, as well as an appendage 16 similar to that of the first part and of length equal to the flat part thereof.
The first part 10 has two tapped holes 5 along the longitudinal axis of the flat, while the second part 11 has only one tapped hole 5, preferably offset from the longitudinal axis of the flat 14.
Each tab 6,7 of the parts 10, 11 is provided with a strip of transverse ridges on the face opposite to that facing the bottom of the groove 9. These ridges are intended to reinforce the anchoring of the flat against the underside of the re-entrant edges 8 and the groove 9.
A so-called European hinge is composed of a double part 18 fixed to the window frame and a mobile part 19 fixed to the opening, articulated one at the entrance of a mate axis 20. These fixed parts 18 and movable 19 are shown in FIGS. 8 and 10. They each consist of a blade 21 folded at right angles so as to constitute an angle iron, one wing 22 of which is attached to a cylindrical element 23 of the hinge and the other of which constitutes a fixing lug pierced with holes 25 for mounting the screws 26 or studs which will apply each of the parts of the hinge against the profile 3 of the opening or of the frame
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
corresponding by means of the flat 4 slipped into the outer groove 9 of each of said sections 3.
A so-called European hinge also has two parts, one fixed carrying the hinge is fixed to the frame, the other mobile 19 pivoting above the first, is fixed to the opening. These two parts can be separated unlike the hinge with a matted axis.
